If you're new to Elle Sees, once a week I feature a restaurant in Atlanta, since I'm asked so often by visitors for cool places to eat and cool things to do. Enjoy!
This week's restaurant pick is EL TACO, which is located in the Virginia-Highlands area. This restaurant serves traditional Tex-Mex and is inspired by the "sunny street markets of Mexico."
We were seated instantly on a busy Saturday and got to sit outside and see the lively neighborhood.
There's a free salsa bar, but you have to order chips, which are $2.50. The salsas were fine, but if you don't like chips, skip it. I ordered the guac (pictured above) and loved it. They also give you a wooden token for the drawings every hour for prizes!
The drinks are excellent--see my faboosh sangria above--and are average for price. Additionally, El Taco is known for its selection of tequilas, which is rather extensive.
How was the food? Great! The Mexican pizzas were very popular but we opted to try the fajitas and tacos. You can order take away or walk up orders too!
I ordered the fish and chicken tacos, which were good but a little spicy. I'm a wimp when it comes to spices. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well as a gluten-free menu.
Overall? I like it because it's close by, the food's good. and I like the atmosphere. If you're in that area, check it out.
Hours: Sun-Thur: 5-10pm

Elle's Essential Tips: Sit outside since there's plenty of people watching, but the bar area is lively if you want to meet friends. Make sure you get a token--they do a drawing every hour and you might win free food or drinks. Also, they use Renewable Choice Energy, which is pretty darn cool.
yumm this looks pretty good! are those radishes in the guac? how quirky!
