How was your weekend? Mine was nonstop since my Lil Sis was visiting. We shopped, saw The Vow, we played with makeup, and did our hair. Totally girly and a fun break...I miss her already! Speaking of beauty, whenever I do a hair or makeup post, I get asked lots of questions. I usually email/comment the answers, but thought I'd share them here instead. I'd love to do this monthly/weekly and it's a great way to share your blog too. Have a beauty question you'd like answered? Email me, leave me a comment below, or Tweet me, and I'll address it in a future post. Here we go:
- Erin asked, "Do you have a tutorial on how to use the [spin] pins?"
- Erin was referring to this post when I mentioned using the Goody Spin Pins (review here). Basically, you twist your hair into a bun and screw in one pin from the bottom of the bun up. Then screw the other pin down, from the top of the bun down. The review I linked to describes the process in more detail and features I video I found.
- Ana asked, "Do you have any tips on how to make hair grow faster?"
- I do! Biotin works wonders. Read my post on it here. And while I've not tried this Hair Growth Treatment by Lee Stafford product, it's gotten good reviews.
- Lauren asked, "Do you use/like the round barrel brushes? and I'm trying to get some lift in my bangs?"
- For lift, try a round barrel brush. Wrap hair around it (just like in the salon when getting a blowout). Put a nozzle on your hairdryer and use it to blow volume into your bangs from all directions--on top, underneath, and the sides. I also recommend a root lifter spray or volumizing hair spray. A teasing comb or brush can help too.
- Aki asked, "I have thick hair, lots of it. Bobby pins don't work for me. They always end up sticking out of my hair. Am I doing it wrong?"
- I have thick hair too! I always put in bobby pins with the bumpy side down, being sure not to put too much hair in the pins. Want to try something other than bobby pins? Try hair pins, like these from Bun Heads (ballerinas swear by them). Also, spray a little dry shampoo on the pins before inserting them--this is great for those with really fine hair.

Ask Elle...it's gonna be the new thing :) hahaha
ReplyDeleteI use biotin everyday and found that it works ok. But, this may sounds gross, but did you ever hear of putting placenta in your hair? They sell it in the beauty supply shop. My hair dresser suggested it and I just don't know if I can do it!
wow great post Dear and such a great idea for Q&A section
ReplyDeleteI have thick hair, too - I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't use bobby pins!
ReplyDeleteGreat answers. :)
Great Q&A! I'll try to think up some good questions.
ReplyDeleteI need some Biotin ASAP. Does it make hair thicker too? I have this embrassing thin\bald spot on the top back spot of my head!! It's hereditary... my mom has one too, ha. :)

I will have to try out Biotin. I want my hair long with the summer but it just takes so darn long to grow!
ReplyDeleteOoh the bobby pin question really helped. I have insanely thick hair and bobby pins just dont do it for me. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look into bun heads!
ReplyDeleteI also read your review about the Spin Pins. I tried their other product (the modern updo pin) and that barely went through my hair! But I suppose this one was better? Have you tried the other one?
Your blog is super useful! Thanks so much for the tips, especially for those of us with long hair! xo
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I'm definitely going to give Biotin a shot.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun with your sis. Sounds like a perfect weekend! :) xoxo
I love the Spin Pins! I hadn't heard of Biotin, but I'm going to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of spin pins nor did I know that Biotin makes hair grow faster. Wow thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, this question and answer post is informative on its own way. Great tips.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is the reverse of thick hair, I´ve lost way too much hair probably due to stress from work or too much hair rebonding, and now I seek to grow it thicker. :)
biotin. the best!
ReplyDeleteLove my round brush. Does wonders for my 'not so thick' hair. ;) Great answers, Miss E. ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat questions and answers! I'm definitely going to try the biotin. I've been growing my hair out for ages!
ReplyDeleteI saw The Vow this weekend too - I thought it was great! Girly weekends are so fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to go see the Vow. It is nice that you got to spend time doing fun things with your little sis. Over the weekend I relaxed and was lazy!
ReplyDeleteYou are a little beauty guru :) I love it!
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me that I have a spinpin from goody that I have not yet opened and tried. Going to check out that post :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I love, love Biotin. It's helped my hair + nails so much!
ReplyDeleteLove these beauty questions! Thanks for all the info. I have to say that I swear by biotin too!
ReplyDeleteGreat answers!!! I love reading your q and a's! I'll have to think of any makeup or hair questions for you!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Q&A, Elle! Never heard of the Bun Heads til now...I'm gonna look for those!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I'll have to try using bobby pins that way, I've always put them in with the bumpy side up. They don't always stay very well, so there you go! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAh such a great tip about the bobby pins!
ReplyDeleteGreat post idea! I have a question: are there any rules in matching blush with lipstick?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I have a question as well. What is the best mascara you have used? I am trying to find a good one, but so far they all tend to clump my lashes to a certain degree (not so cute lol) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd your weekend sounds amazing as well. I definitely want to go see The Vow :)

Definitely using the bobby pin tips! I used some hair growing stuff from Arbonne for a while....loved it. But didn't need my hair to get any longer for a while so I stopped using it.
ReplyDeleteGood advice, thanks! I'll have to try bobby pins with the bumpy side down, I've never done that!
ReplyDeleteBiotin will definitely make your hair grow! It's working for me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
ReplyDeleteYou've got this blogging thing figured out.
