Let's welcome Laura from Applied Glamour! She's guest posting for the day and I'll be back tomorrow. Love, Elle
It's all a bit ridiculous, don't you think? If you're in love, why wait till February 14th to be extra romantic? And why let some silly date on the calendar make you feel bad and inadequate? This year, why not do something different?
As Carrie Bradshaw famously said at the end of Sex and the City, "The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself." Isn't that the truth? Whether you're single or taken, let this be the year that you celebrate self love. Treat yourself to something awesome. Do things that make you feel pampered. Spend time doing what you love. Get a little decadent because you deserve it!
For me this means buying myself flowers and fancy chocolates, running a scathingly hot Lush bubble bath, and watching Marie Antoinette while soaking luxuriously and eating my fancy chocolate. For you it could mean taking a long scenic drive and shouting song lyrics with your playlist at top volume, all wild and carefree. It could mean surrounding yourself with beauty at an art museum, then working on your own creative project. It could mean taking time for some yoga and quiet meditation, or throwing a crazy sweaty dance party of one. It could mean finally purchasing that frivolous thing you've had your eye on for ages.
However you choose to celebrate, know that you are amazing, lovely, capable, and strong. You are beautiful, intelligent, talented, and deserving of wonderful things. Make this Valentine's Day this year that you celebrate you. Do what brings you joy and ecstatic happiness, whatever it may be. And then get really crazy and do that at least once a month, because once a year just isn't nearly enough!
So tell me: what are your favorite ways indulge, pamper, and treat yourself? How will you be spending February 14th?

ReplyDeleteLoved this inspiring post, I am not one for celebrating Valentines Day, but your ideas are really great
ReplyDeleteMy fave indulgence is buying my own gift. Ha! We don't really celebrate Valentine's Day in the traditional way - just a nice dinner at home with some candles - but I do love any reason for gifts. So I buy something for the hubs and something for me. That means no pressure on him and I'm definitely happy. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe've got a sweet little giveaway that would make a nice Valentine to yourself, girls. An adorable little pouch to hold your goodies together!

I like massages and manicures and pedicures! I will be with my hubby for a comfy cozy date night in because I actually have to work until 9pm that night and then I have homework. But we are planning on celebrating in on the 15th! (That's the day he asked me to be his girlfriend 4 years ago on our first date in Disneyland!...and we've never looked back!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you!!
ReplyDeleteI keep telling my g/fs that noone has any business being in a relationship until they are comfortable with themselves. Love the treat yourself to Vday idea.
A bath and some chocolate sounds like a great way to spend the evening :P
I love indulging myself in a few luxuries. For me, this means having a tidy apartment (nothing stresses me out like clutter), fresh flowers, and painted fingernails and toes to feel extra polished!
ReplyDeleteCute post! Valentine's Day will be bittersweet this year - sweet because I have a Valentine, but unfortunately he's still overseas.
ReplyDeleteChocolate is really the only date I need. :)
I love cuddling under a blanket on the couch and watching whatever sounds good at the moment. While eating something delicious. I do what I want. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post! I never was a person who liked Valentines day, whether I'm in a relationship or not. It just seems so unnecesary. I'm actually not sure what I'm doing this year, but a hot Lush bath sounds about right!
ReplyDeleteLaura, this is truly a great post and I was so glad to read it on ElleSees!

I will absolutely be picking myself up a little gift. I'm not yet sure what though. Probably some useless but totally adorable trinket.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm not a big V-Day person. In fact, I'm working that day. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Tomorrow I'm having a giveaway, drop by and enter!
This is a great post. Vday is actually my one year anniversary with my company, so I'm making everyone give me Valentines. Also, my sweetheart is auditioning, so hopefully we'll go out to celebrate how much tush he kicked!
