April's resolution: So for April, I'm putting forth the effort, every day. While my job has a super casual, nonexistent dress code, I'm going to put for the effort. I'm going to look nice and wear full makeup (I usually just escape with concealer) for one month, instead of when I feel like it. I want to see how it makes me feel, and if people notice.
How Did I Do?
I wore full makeup and hair every day. I dressed pretty much the same though about half of the month. As a mini challenge, I kept my nails always painted.--probably not the best thing for my nails, but it was fun.
What Did I Learn?
I thought people would notice, since a natural beauty I am not. I definitely need makeup to avoid the "OMG ARE YOU SICK?" questions. But no one said noticed--however, I guess no news is better than bad, right? I did feel better about myself, a bit more confident. One thing I noticed is that I felt the need to go somewhere, anywhere, to justify the need to put on makeup. It's like I didn't want to waste all the effort to sit around the house. I learned that, while I do dress up for me, I really do it for the public.
Would I Do It Again?
Yes! But it is good for the skin/hair/nails to take a break from all the fuss. Luckily, I'll never be a celeb, so I won't have the problem of having to be done up all the time.
For May, I'm on a beauty spending freeze. My collection has gotten a little out of hand, and I'm vowing to spend the month finishing up products/giving away/clearing up some space. Yup, no new, fun, dazzling beauty products for me! Luckily, I have Birchbox & MyGlam to tide me over. And if any of you wanna send me stuff, I'd be more than happy to take those products off your hands! ;)
What is your monthly resolution? What's your spending weakness (mine's obviously makeup)?
PS: Happy birthday to my Daddy.
Shoes are definitely my weakness! Good look with the spending freeze.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually put any makeup on during the weekend, unless I am going somewhere in particular. However, the older I have gotten, the more I have felt it is necessary for work. I do feel better when I am made up. I also like to have my nails painted, even if it is a nude color.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your spending freeze on beauty products!

I work in an office where most of the girls/women have sporty / casual outfits.. while sometimes I am lazy and stick to just the mascara & some foundation, jeans & a t-shirt, lately I've felt the need to step up a bit and dress more feminine, wear make-up, etc. I don't know if anyone notices, I'm not even sure I care.. but after seing some persons around with greasy hair and a constant tired look on their face, I've promised myself I would never let that happen to me (it was never the case with me anyway, just sayin'..) but that just reminds me that the way I see those persons with their negligent look, the same way somebody else might see that I look nice and clean & all..
ReplyDeleteI am a no makeup, no hairstyle person, and your resolutions sound like quite an effort for someone who isn't used to it every day. I love how you use your experiences to define insights.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with all your new resolutions.
Good job with your April resolution! Doing full hair and make up every day might be a bit of a hassle but i'm sure you looked and felt great! :)
ReplyDeleteI was kind of following this resolution with you and it came to a point in the last few days where I just needed to cas(ual) out. One thing I learned though is that it does feel great to get dressed up with make-up every once in a while. I feel more like a girl.
ReplyDeleteI have a full time stylist and make up artist at my house that works on me throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI'm giving up pop and McDonald.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! It's obvious that you are lovely with or without makeup. :) My spending weakness is homegoods and buying gifts for others.
ReplyDeleteI definitely only put makeup on when I am going out...I'm totally just doing it for the public!

sounds like a fun goal! I am actually an everyday makeup person (I usually take a break most weekends...) but I love it :)
ReplyDeletegood luck this month!
My husband and I had April is the month that we did home projects and I'm telling you that we got so much done!
ReplyDeletePainted the kitchen and hung new art, Scrubbed everything, Put up a decorative border (stainless steel tiles) instead of a backsplash, Cleaned carpets, Donated a ton to Goodwill, Organized, Got the yard Spring and Summer ready and hung a new blind in our bathroom.
It was alot and it was so worth it!
It's nice to set goals and actually accomplish them!!

That's a good resolution - I'm sure you'll be able to keep it up
ReplyDeletei had totally planned on going monthly resolutions and completely failed in actually putting a list together!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on wearing makeup every day! I usually do wear it when I go out, but sometimes not a full face. Good luck with your May goal!
ReplyDeleteI really have to commend you for doing monthly resolutions for 2 years! That's incredible. Glad you pulled off the makeup & nails resolution in April. I wear foundation and sometimes blush when I go to work, and on the weekends I'll add eyeliner and stuff if I'm going out. But if I'm not really doing anything exciting then I go no makeup and that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe things you learn about yourself when you do resolutions!
I think that is a great resolution. I have tried to be better about dressing myself every day since I work from home. I did pretty good last month. Maybe I will make that my goal for May!
ReplyDeleteThese resolutions are a great idea!! I ought to try the dressing up one...my work is a pretty relaxed dress code too and I have taken full advantage :-p
ReplyDeleteMy spending weakness lately has been clothes. Good luck on your spending freeze!!
good for you for sticking with your goal. I know sometimes it can be hard especially when you wake up late, but getting dressed up for work always makes me feel better.
ReplyDeleteYay to you for sticking to your goals! My ongoing goal is to FIND A JOB.
ReplyDeletei'm glad i'm not the only one who needs to wear makeup to avoid the "omg, are you sick?" comments!
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is anything on sale! At my old job, I hardly ever put a lot of makeup on. My makeup routine consisted of liquid eyeliner and a bit of mascara. I couldn't leave home with out it frankly. It just made me comfortable. It's cool you got your resolution done. Very inspiring! x
ReplyDeleteSounds like you did a great job. You always inspire me to do monthly challenges but I rarely stick to them. You have more determination than me :) xoxo
ReplyDeletei think you made a great job honey, nice nice for you!!

My office has the same super-casual dress code, and whenever I show up in a pair of heels, everyone asks me what I'm up to that night!
ReplyDeleteWell done on April's accomplishment...me thinks you look radiant with and without make out! All the best for May, I have been trying to cut on clothes buying..but alas, no will power. look forward to your tips on this.
ReplyDeleteLOL on the "no news is better than bad"...too true:) And that's awesome that you're doing so well with your resolutions, dahling...
ReplyDeletehey elle! good for you! i don't know if you have any chanel or dior nail polishes, but you can get a pretty penny by putting them on ebay (just a suggestion). there were 3 Dior items i wasn't using and i sold 2 of them for some nice change. and as you mentioned giveaways are also nice.

That's so interesting, because I tend to feel the same way. When I get dressed up and go all out on my makeup and nails, I feel like it's "wasted" if I don't go out and do something. Good luck with the beauty spend freeze in May!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are gorgeous!! No need to say you're not a natural beauty!! I hear you on the "are you sick" comments though. It's like, no I just skipped the bronzer ;) hahaha
ReplyDeleteOooooo, beauty spending freeze, huh? That should be a real challenge.
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for another successful month.
mine are - I need to 'tone' up and put my self on a spending freeze
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice Comment ,could we follow each other? :)
Lovely Greetings ♡
Good for you! If I ever dread an event or just don't have motivation to do something, putting on a cute outfit and doing my makeup/hair well will always make me excited!
ReplyDeleteif I didn't get ready for work, I would constantly feel less professional. On the days when I stumble out of bed and basically just screech into my desk at the office with little to no prep, I tend to have a less productive day. I think there's something to "dress for success!".
ReplyDeleteGood job on next month's goal, you have so many products so I'm sure you will be more than fine!
All the luck with the spending freeze, gorgeous!

i second the spending freeze - keep me posted on how it goes. i need one too
ReplyDeleteI always have my nails painted and have for years. It feels so weird if they are plain, even though it is better for them!
ReplyDeleteBags and shoes are a problem for me but I also love a good nail polish bottle or five! I could go nuts with bottles and bottles of polish. Luckily I keep it under control ;o)
ReplyDeleteSuper interesting! I'm the same way about make up...if I'm getting all done up I want to go somewhere where someone's going to see it.
