Ask Elle: Flaky Mascara & Concealer for Oily SKin
Hey girl, any advice to avoid flaking mascara? Will primer help that??
By Allison
It depends on the brand of mascara used, and usually cheaper brands do this. I've found mascaras with fibers (L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes for example) or really wet mascaras can flake.
Try rubbing the tiniest dab of lip balm or concealer between your fingers and rubbing on lashes before mascara. Primer wouldn't hurt. Use a spoolie (I get mine free at Sephora) to brush out any clumps.
Any tips for using concealer on oily skin? Mine never sticks around as long as it should.

Check for the word "matte" in the concealer description--many stick (looks like a lipstick) concealers have this.
I like thick concealers (ones that come in a stick or palette, as opposed to liquid & in a tube with applicator) for oily skin.
Try using a translucent powder (ELF makes an HD one for $6) to set as well.
I also recommend gel-like concealers, but these are all high-end (try Bobbi Brown).

Is that primer like a paint primer that you spray paint on? ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is something that every woman can use! I've had problems with flaky mascara but this tip seems easy enough!
ReplyDeleteI prefer stick concealers as well. And Primer of course.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to try that for my mascara!

Love these tips! I have the issue of concealer creasing under my eyes making me look like I have wrinkles :( do you think the concealer tip here applies? I'm guessing my under eye area is oily which causes this... def looking for a matte concealer. Also love the mascara tip :D thanks, Elle! Xox <3 hautepinkpretty.com
ReplyDeleteHi Elle, great tips, i love these Q&A posts that you do :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Bobbi Brown's stuff, even if I can't afford it all. But I splurge on her touch-up stick and undereye concealer. Definitely worth the price.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to start looking for matte products. This summer heat is killing me.
