Yay, the weekend is here, and since it's Labor Day on Monday, the weekend will be extra long! Today's post features a hairstyle that's quick to create, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the weekend. Yesterday, I shared a look to take your daytime eyes into night but done in minutes. Today, I thought I'd share a day-to-night quick, easy, no heat updo that takes seconds to do. Just like yesterday's tutorial, you'll only need 2 products:
T O O L S:
- hair elastic
- bobby pins or spin pins/pin twirls
M E T H O D:
Secure hair in a pony tail
Right above the elastic, split the hair in half.
Grab tail and flip up so it's flat against the crown of your head.
Pull through the split.
If you were a kid of the 90s, remember the Topsy Tail?
It's the same look (by the way, they still make them).
Take the tail and twist.
Wrap around to make a bun.
Pin into place. That's it!
Optional: I used Spin Pins--basically, you take one pin at the bottom of your bun and screw it up into your hair. Then take the other pin to the top of the bun. Twist/screw it down into the bun.
T I P S:
- You can leave the flipped pony as is, if buns aren't your thing.
- Speaking of buns, check out my Lauren Conrad Big Messy & Ballerina Buns Tutorials.
- To get bobby pins to stay in your hair, make sure the bumpy side is down.
- If your hair is super-slippery, try spraying the pin with a quick spritz of dry shampoo.
Have a great weekend! Be safe, behave, and be well. Love, Elle

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG this is soooo ingenious i'm so going to try doing this with my hair today!! love it.. especially right now with the humid summer weather!
ReplyDeleteWhen you were doing this, I thought it was reminding me of the topsy tail (although I didn't know that's what it was called). I really love anything that involves flipping a pony tail...so pretty!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid of the 90s I know all about this one :)
ReplyDeleteCute! I usually do this but stop after I've flipped the ponytail. I'm gonna have to try it as a bun!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great, hopefully I can pull that off.
ReplyDeleteCool tips. Right now, I'm learning about hairstyles by playing with old wigs. Stuff girls learn as children is new to me. I soaked up this post like a sponge.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty & perfect for hot weather!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Great date night hair!
ReplyDeleteI love doing the twist to get my bangs out of my face but have never tried the pull through pony with it. So easy and yet SO cute! Thanks for the sweet comment and follow - following you (officially) now!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this and it doesn't look too hard.. I usually can't figure out how to do anything fun with my hair, but I think maybe I can pull this one off :)
ReplyDeleteI love you for giving me another hot weather hairstyle! Here in Phx, we still have at *least* a month and a half of hot left, so I'm gonna need it! Have a great weekend, lady!
ReplyDeletethese are so amazing! great tips hun =)
ReplyDeleteyour blog is so awesome, i love reading all your posts, they're so great!! :) XO
Thanks for this weekend hairstyle inspiration, with some luck, I may be able to recreate it.
ReplyDeleteLove this look!

I've done the flipped pony, but I LOVE the bun on top of it! Great look, Elle. Hope you have a great holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the hair, Elle! So easy and very pretty! I am definitely doing this on Monday for work :)
ReplyDeleteBuns are my favourite hairstlye. They look so carefree and stylish. Can't wait to try this out.
ReplyDeletei like this hairstyle if i'm at wok, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a GIRL Thing
Such a gorgeous hairstyle, Elle.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to try some of your tips once my hair grows out a bit!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute hairstyle! I just got a haircut. (I look like my picture now), so unfortunately, I don't think I have enough hair to do that.
ReplyDeleteI've been using bobby pins all of my life and i've NEVER thought to use hairspray to get them to stay in place.
ReplyDeleteThat, my dear, is pure brilliance. Thank you!
I have the hardest time doing buns in my hair... I have some layers, I have a lot of it, and it's not too long. When I get the buns they fall apart because my hair is so heavy... My hair is my biggest complaint!
ReplyDelete@ punctuation mark: i have very thick hair and my buns stay. and it's layered. try those spin pins i shared.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! So simple and pretty! I love this. I can't wait to try it on Monday. It'll be perfect for a relaxed day with family.
ReplyDeletegosh you have the BEST hair tricks!

Ok... this seems fairly straightforward and easy but knowing me, I will prob fail again.
ReplyDeleteWill give it a try.
Thanks for this! I usually leave my hair as is after flipping it.

that is super cute :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds easy, but I would find some way to screw it up. I suck when it comes to hairstyling.

So pretty!
ReplyDeleteCute! I think my hair might just be long enough to try this!
ReplyDeletelove how easy this is to do. I'm going to try this out soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say that the bumpy side of the bobby pin should be 'down' to stay in your hair, does that mean 'down' as in facing the scalp? Sorry, just trying to clarify as I'm learning new hairstyles and tips for hair!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great hairstyle....very good for women.
