Beauty DIY: Vanilla Sugar Cookie Body Butter

So tell me--are you a holiday baker? About this time of year I want to bake but then remember I'm the worst cook ever. I wait on my Mama and others to share their holiday fare. Instead, I make Vanilla Sugar Cookie Body Butter!

T O O L S
  • 1 c coco or shea butter (try health stores, beauty supply stores, and online)
  • 2 1/2 to 3 tsbp sweet almond oil
  • 1 tsp vitamin E oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla essential oil (I used one that was "sugar cookie" scented, purchased online)
  • bowl that can withstand heat, spatula, pot holders
  • hand mixer
  • container for storage

M E T H O D

Carefully melt and then carefully remove coco/shea butter via double boiler or in microwave (about 6 minutes in the microwave, but watch and be careful).

Allow to cool for around 15 minutes.

Add oils and use hand mixer to mix to together.

Put bowl in freezer for about 20 minutes so it can solidify.

Use the hand mixer again and mix until butter consistency (looks like icing).

Store in a resealable container.

Keeps for 6 months.

N O T E S
  • Body butters are great for when you want more moisture than lotion provides, something with a thicker consistency, and help with really dry areas on your body. These make great gifts too! Just be sure not to use on your face.
  • The coco butter and sweet almond oils are used for moisturizing the skin and making it softer--definitely a plus in winter months.
  • The vitamin E is used for anti-aging and to make the butter last longer.
  • You'll definitely need essential oil to scent because the coco butter (in raw form as used here) doesn't smell so great!
  • Coconut oil can be used to make butter, but no other oils would need to be added, as it's pretty moisturizing and thick on its own. I don't like making it into butter because the cleanup is just an oily miserable mess, but yes it can be done. Just melt, let solidify, and then whip.
Have a great weekend! Be safe, behave, and be well. Love, Elle
