Fave & Not-So-Fave Drugstore Products

Hey you! It's only Wednesday and this week has been dragging by for me. You? I think it's because I have Thursday off instead of Friday, and I have a fun weekend ahead. Anyway, before I begin this post, in case you've not noticed, I've had several product sample review posts lately. This is just timing. I promise this will never become a product review blog and I wanted to let you know! So let's talk about drugstore products--one of my bffs sent me this and I've been meaning to do this for months. Check out the I Heart Drugstore Tag:

#2

1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand?

Revlon--I love just about about everything they make!

2. What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?
Face: Revlon Colorstay Whipped or Garnier BB Cream
Cheek: Wet N Wild or Revlon Cream
Lip:
Revlon Lip Butters or Lip Balm Stains

3. Least favorite product?

Covergirl Cheekers...they have little pigment and are just impossible to use! I don't get why they are loved so much.

4. What is the best makeup bargain?

Wet N Wild has some great products, like their shadows and polishes.

5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)

Prestige My Blackest Lashes--I don't see much hype about it. It's so good, and for those of you that dislike L'Oreal Carbon Black, you might like this drier version.

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
Physician's Formula--way too overpriced for the quality. I'm usually disappointed.

7. Show your best drugstore dupes:
These are just a few I picked out--I have so many more & I need to do a separate post on all them:
Wet N Wild Highlighter in Reserve Your Cabana for Lorac Perfectly Lit
ELF Radiance Enhancer for Benefit High Beam
Milani blush in Luminous for Nars Orgasm
Wet N Wild for MAC shadows Modest Tone, Cork, Handwritten, Shroom, Naked Lunch
Hoola bronzer and NYC Sunny

8. Drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
Many of the BB creams just didn't do anything for me and I have really had to work with the L'Oreal Infallible shadows. I also was disappointed with Maybelline Bouncy Blush--the shimmer looks weird on me, but I know so many of you like them!

Tell me your best/worst drugstore products!
Or better yet, answer the questions! :)

  2. This post was so helpful! I really need to try the lip butters. I have to say that my favorite drug store products are the Almay eyeshadows that are tailored to your eye color. I haven't used them in years, so I don't know if they still make them, but they made my brown eyes pop and look so pretty.

  3. SO random..but speaking of drug store makeup stuff, I've been looking for something to help make your face less shiny/oily?? I don't know why, I've got the attack of shiny face lately and I'm not sure what power(??) or what to use!

  4. Hi Elle, thanks for highlighting some of your favourite products, I know I can fully rely on your opinions and will be willing to try the ones you loved out.

  5. I agree with you on the BB cream -the Garnier stuff is my fave, but even that was sorta heavy & greasy... great reviews!

  6. I'm so with you on the Physicians Formula stuff - I'm always disappointed. I really like Rimmel mascaras and lip colours in terms of drugstore bargains.

  7. Agree with Revlon and WetNWild. They make some great products!

  8. I agree about Physicians Formula too! I don't know why it's so expensive for a drugstore item. I do use the CoverGirl cheekers but only because I have rosacea so I don't want to use a blush that is terribly high in pigmentation.

  9. I really like Revlon. L'Oreal is pretty good, too. Those are the only drugsstore products I use, so I don't really have any that I dislike. I'd be interested in reading more about ones that didn't work for you.

  10. Fun post! Funny someone mentioned the Almay eyeshadows made for eye color because they are my favorite drugstore product. & yes, Almay still makes them. It works so well for my blue eyes!

  11. It's funny...some cheap products work so much better than the more expensive ones. I'm still a Neutrogena girl, and a Physicians Formula girl but ONLY when I get $4 off a product because really, that's overpriced. :(

  12. Great post. I've never tried some of these at all. I have bought L'Oreal's products a lot before. I use Rimmel as my go-to back up mascara!

  13. I love reading about your likes and dislikes, especially since I'm trying to save money by buying more drugstore brands. My fave bargain brand so far is ELF.

  14. Yay for drugstore products! I love Revlon's whipped foundation and their balm stains, too. I mean, I just like most of the stuff they make (same goes for L'Oreal.) I agree with you on Physician's Formula... Not always the quality I expect out of a pricier drugstore brand!

  18. I bought my first lip butter yesterday at Walmart. I saw on another blog the Revlon brand recommended but I went with Drew Barrymore's new line Flower. I like it, but next time will give the Revlon brand a go.

I also love the Garnier BB cream, haven't tried other brands.

I love all this info because I am extremely inept when it comes to makeup so thanks for sorting it all out.

As to your ? on my blog. I size all my pictures extra large, if you are reading it on a phone they come out small, not sure why this is. If you have any tips please send them my way. I love any and all help, makeup, blog, anything!

  19. Great post! My favorite drugstore brand at the moment is Revlon as well. I have a small addiction to the lipbutters haha. I also love me some Wet n Wild. Looks like we have very similar tastes!

  20. Revlon Colorstay and Lip Butters are great! Elf Blush & Bronzer duo is good too. My favorite is Monistat Chafing gel as primer - Amazing! Good to know about the Prestige mascara... I can't use the Loreal Voluminous because it smears on my eyelids every time!

  21. @Shelly Yes, I shared the Chafing Gel trick a couple of years ago on this blog :)

  31. Love this I've been following you on instagram and am excited to start reading your blog! i've been watching so many of the I heart makeup tags on youtube! and I am so surprised at how good the wet n wild eyeshadows and nail polishes are! game changer. I also agree that covergirl has disappointed me a lot lately, but i've heard their 3in1 foundation is a "comeback" product with a lot of great reviews so i may try that when i see it on sale. ;)

  32. Awesome post! I need to try those lip butters!

  33. i totally agree with you on the cheekers blush. I bought one because a guru on youtube was raving about it but then I didn't like it at all! there wasn't any color payoff for me. As for nyc sunny vs hoola, they are pretty similar but unfortunately the sunny shows up a bit more orange on my skintone.
