Sephora Haul (Mini-Reviews)!

We all know I'm obsessed with drugstore makeup. Are you a fan? But there's something about walking through those doors at Sephora that makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I very rarely share high-end products and thought you might enjoy it. Check out my (sort of) recent Sephora Haul (please note these are mini-reviews, so let me know if you need more detail/picsof a product):

Soap & Glory Fill Monty Wrinkle Filler--I once worked with a lady from France, and she told me I'd wrinkle early because I was so expressive when I talked. Turns out she was right! So in my attempt to spackle hide them, I thought I'd try Fill Monty. Dab a tiny bit of this thick cream to fill in wrinkles and then apply foundation on top. The directions say to do the opposite, but this is what works for me, as it tends to leave a white cast on my skin if done the other way.
Overall: I used this to fill in the wrinkle between my eyes and my sometimes-wrinkles around the corners of my mouth. If looking at me from a small distance or from straight on, the wrinkles are not evident. But if you look at me from the side, the wrinkles are evident. I'm pleased with this product and would repurchase. It does have "silicone spheres," but I've not broken out from it. If you would like a tutorial on this, please let me know.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme-Plump--I own the original gloss, so thought I would give this lip shine a try. The consistency is thick, opaque, and jelly-like.
Overall: I tried this on bare lips and over lip sticks/glosses/stains. I didn't care for the smell at all--sort of like a fake chocolate. I didn't think this did much of anything, with barely any tingling, and liked the original gloss with the wand applicator better. I would not repurchase.

Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer--I love my Benefit Porefessional Primer, but Too Faced has more product and is cheaper, so I was interested to try. Simply apply before foundation for a flawless finish that helps to hide pores.
Overall: This is a little creamier than the Porefessional, and I found the results to be very similar. Too Faced has a silkier/moisturizing feel, so those with oily skin might want to keep that in mind. I would repurchase.

Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray--For those times when makeup really needs to last, I love a makeup setting spray, and this one is formulated for dry skin. This spray used to be called Dew Me, used to have different packaging, and used to be affiliated with Skindinavia.
Overall: I hate the new white packaging, since it shows stains easily that are practically impossible to remove. I know it's probably psychological, but I think I like the older version better. I do make my own version of the regular spray, but have yet to recreate this non-drying formula, so repurchase!

Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation--For a very pigmented foundation that can even cover some tattoos, give this a shot. A little goes a very long way.
Overall: Great stuff, mattifying finish, but it does have silicone. I usually don't go for full-on coverage everyday, so this is more of a special occasion foundation, but I would probably repurchase.

Charlotte Ronson All Eye Need Eyeshadow Palette in Henrietta-- This came as part of a set that included a lip gloss, eye liners, and a bronzer/cream stick. I love the color choices in her mostly-neutral line. Everything makes me think of summer, bronzed glow, and effortless beauty. I haven't heard really much of anything on this line, and was excited to try it.
Overall: One of the pans came loose, so I was disappointed there. The colors are beautiful earth tones (almost-matte peach, pink champagne, copper, and chocolate) and shimmery, and the close up pictures I took did not show the colors well at all, so I didn't include them. I felt the quality and pigmentation was nice, but not worth $22 (mine was part of a set, so I felt like I was getting my money's worth). Like I need another neutral palette (whom are we kidding?) but I prefer the Nicole one. Would not repurchase.

Where do you purchase your beauty products?

PS: So...let's dish on the Golden Globes! Did you watch? Whose dress was your fave? Whose hair did you love the most? I'll be recreating a hairstyle or two this week, so stay tuned!

  1. Interesting products, I like the eyeshadow colours you chose. I tried a sample of Rodial snake serum from one of my Glossyboxs and it froze my expression lines, the only bad thing is the price! xoxo. Btw I loved Emily Blunts dress, there was so many nice outfits and looks though. Looking forward to your hairstyle look!

  2. You do a good review Elle. I tend to buy my makeup at the counter at a department store. I'm partial to Laura Mercier. I like that the "Laura" person will apply a new product for me and I'll purchase, take it home and if I don't like it they let me return it. I've got sensitive skin and Laura works for me.

I watched "the globes". I loved Michelle Dockery's gown.

  3. That's too bad that Urban Decay changed their setting spray, as I heard great things with the old formula:( Oh well....

  9. I agree with you on walking into Sephora (or browsing their site). I love drugstore stuff, but there's something fun about trying a mid-range or high-end product once in a while from Sephora. I like the mini reviews you have here - very honest!

  11. I love your drug store product reviews! I use L'Oreal and Revlon drug store products. But for antiaging, I love Arbonne! It's expensive, but it works. Nobody ever guesses my real age when they see me!

  12. I love the mini reviews! I've been looking for a face primer that will get the job done but won't clog my pores or make me break out. Maybe I'll give this a shot!

  13. I'm willing to try anything that fills in wrinkles. Count me into the over-expressive club. Life must be very surprising for me, because I've got the creases to prove it.

  24. Sephora hauls are the best! Too Faced's primer is on my list of primers to try, so I'm glad you liked it. I've also been wanting to try out Urban Decay's makeup setting sprays, but now I'm not so sure if I still want to since people are saying the new formula isn't as good :(
