This has been the longest week! I think I say this every year once the holidays are over. Ooh, speaking of the holidays, I was a total slacker in the skincare department. And my skin felt it, let me tell you. As soon as I was able, I immediately resumed the ole regimen including the two tools in this post. Now you all know I'm all about the drugstore, but sometimes a splurge is a good thing. If you're interested in investing in some quality skin care tools that really work, read on:
Clarisonic:
You should own this! I've tried all the devices, the knock offs, and I've even tried making my own (which including taping a facial brush to an old electric toothbrush...let's not discuss it). None of them compared to the Clarisonic. If you want a really deep clean, I recommend the Clarisonic. Having clean skin allows skincare products and makeup to work/look better. It removes 6 times the makeup and twice as much of the dirt than regular hand cleansing. And it only takes a minute to use! You can use whatever skincare cleaner you like with it. It's waterproof, so I use mine in the shower. I kinda feel more productive, like I'm multitasking as opposed to doing this at the sink. There are several models (I have the red Mia), colors, and several brush heads to choose from (the one pictured is "normal" but I've used "sensitive" too). They have brush heads for deep cleaning, acne, delicate, and even the body. I use mine once a day, and for some you might need it just weekly, but I've had mine a year and I love it. Clarisonic starts at $119 for the Mia and up to $225 for the Plus. It can be purchased via the site, in ULTA, Sephora, and online.
Personal Microderm (PMD):
If you want to recreate the personal microderm experience at home, you'll want this! The PMD is a hand-held device (I was sent one and reviewed it here) that has aluminum oxide crystals to smooth away dead skin cells, diminish age spots and other signs of aging. PMD is ideal for those with fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne, skin discolorations, and other imperfections who want smooth, even-toned skin. I use it weekly and my skin always feels amazing and soft afterwards. To use, I hold the skin taut in the area I'm pm-ing and slowly drag the PMD across it. It takes a few minutes but is totally worth it for smooth, soft skin. I am really looking forward to using it in the winter. It comes with different discs that vary in strength (think sensitive to one for the body). The PMD is $179 and can be purchased here.
Do you own either of these skincare tools?
What beauty products are worth the splurge for you?
I haven't tried PMD. But I use my Clarisonic all the time, and I agree totally worth the splurge! I've saved so much from not having to get facials because of this magical tool!

I keep hearing so many great things about Clarisonics! Will have to add it to my wish list. :)
ReplyDeletei got my blue clarisonic mia for only $54 and it is sooo worth the money :)
ReplyDeleteMy Blog: Caught in a Daze.
they better be on sale at some point, then I might egt my hands on one..
ReplyDeleteI would <3 to ...I just followed you :))) ..have a good day :))..kisses
ReplyDeleteI got a Clarisonic Mia for Christmas. I LOVE it. Skin feels amazingly clean and smooth after using. I'm happy to find that even with daily use it doesn't dry my skin. The carry case is great and I took it with me on a recent trip.
ReplyDeleteHaven't tried the PMD, I still go to my Plastic Surgery office esthetician for the treatment and a peel.
I have a manual facial brush that does OK. I probably would receive better results if I used it more often. I really need to take better care of my skin. Buying one of these tools would be a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any of these available here as yet, but they do sound like great investments.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting a Clarisonic for months - I think I need to just go out and treat myself!

I have the Clarisonic Mia2 and it's awesome. It took me a while to find the right balance for my skin (how often to use it and what brush) but I think I've cracked the mystery!
ReplyDeleteI bought the Olay version of the Clairsonic and I love it. Now, I've never tried the "real" version and I'm sure it's probably better, but I do like what I have- especially for a fraction of the price.
ReplyDeleteNice post. I've never considered using these kind of beauty devices. However, you peeked my interest for the Clarisonic. Thanks! - Carla
ReplyDeleteI would splurge on PMD (ugh to fine lines and acne!)

oh i am the absolute WORSE when it comes to skin care. i usually just wash my face with body wash in the shower haha. but as i get older i'm definitely starting to become more conscious about it. these are some products ill keep in mind :)
ReplyDeleteI have heard about that PMD and was wondering if it really makes that much of a difference on your skin...maybe I'll think about it, sounds like a good investment!
ReplyDeleteI need to invest in a Clarisonic! Exfoliation, exfoliation, exfoliation!

I've thought about getting the Clarisonic, but so far, I just can't justify the cost, especially since I normally only have the patience to use makeup removing wipes. (Both my bedtime and morning routines feel long enough already!) I know it would probably help my skin and prevent breakouts, though.

ReplyDeleteI think it's time for me to make an investment!
ReplyDeleteI've been contemplating the Clarisonic. I might have to break down and get it.
ReplyDeleteI've always been curious about the Clarisonic. Good to know it works:)
ReplyDeleteTOTALLY agree about the clarisonic, I actually just included it in my top of 2012 beauty favorites - it was definitely my favorite thing I discovered in 2012!! I can totally tell when I don't use if for a week! Love your blog - found you via SBS! Exciting!! :)

I really want to try this clarisonic MIA. Have to save some money now!!

Ooh, I keep thinking I should try the Clarisonic, but no matter how many good reviews I read, I keep thinking that is too much money to be spending on a gadget for my face! (I keep spending it on kitchen gadgets instead, haha) Maybe one day, I will actually splurge out and get it!
ReplyDeleteInteresting tools for skin care, honestly I have not tried any of the two before but based on your reviews I think it would be great to try them.
ReplyDeleteI've been contemplating buying that for so long and now I know I need to!!
ReplyDeleteI don't own these skincare tools but they sound promising! my skin is just overly sensitive though and i break out a lot so i have to be real careful about what to put on it. it sucks.

I don't own any skincare tools
ReplyDeleteagree 100% about the clarisonic!
ReplyDeleteThe Clarisonic sounds great! And maybe I'd be more inclined to scrub my face if I could do it in the shower. I HATE standing at the sink and getting sopping wet from splashing water on my face. Do you have to replace the heads, though?
ReplyDeleteHi Elle,
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing all your fun Instagram photos I decided it was time to pop over and visit your blog! I'm really enjoying reading it.
I am also a Clarisonic devotee, I think it has really helped my skin and I've noticed a vast improvement since I started using it. I have only heard good things about the PMD, I think that might have to be my next beauty splurge!

I just didn't have the budget for the Clairsonic. My husband's cousin manages a spa, and she recommended it like crazy... so I started looking into more affordable alternatives.
ReplyDeleteMy sister has one of the Olay knock-offs, so I tried it. It moves in a circular, sweeping scrubbing motion, and I found it too scratchy for my taste. Fail.
So I hit Google and the Bed Bath and Beyond website. I try to buy most of my gadgets there because they are really fantastic about returns- and the 20% off coupons that I hoard like a madwoman take the sting out of many purchases!
I bought the Nutra Sonic Companion there, and I have been pretty happy with it.
I don't have any microdermabrasion device, but I do have the Mary Kay md scrub, which I put onto my trusty Companion for a nice scrub now and then. I then follow up with the MK md after-care "replenish" moisturizer from the set, and all is well!
That reminds me... I should do that after I do my weight training today!
Ugh..I WAAAAANT a clarisonic. I think I need to start saving up for one.
ReplyDeletehmmm.... that PMD sounds intriguing... is it ok for sensitive skin?
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog, I am obsessed! Does anyone have a view on whether its worth splurging on the Clarisonic Plus or is the Mia just as good?? Trying to save my student pennies!
ReplyDelete@Robynne Sparkes--thanks! The regular Clarisonic has a timer for each section of your face. The Mia just runs for a minute, so you have to mentally count 20 seconds for the forehead, 20 seconds for the chin, etc. I'm happy with the Mia.
