Last year, it was all about BB Creams. Check out my drugstore reviews of BB Creams, here. CC Creams are the latest skincare craze to hit beauty shelves (we're already onto DD Creams). CC Cream stands for "Color Control" or "Color Corrector" and is designed to correct uneven skin tones with more nourishing ingredients, more effective skin coverage, and sometimes with a higher SPF. CC Creams also address two of the biggest complaints of BB Creams: blending issues (BB Creams were too light for some skin tones) and the oily finish. CC Creams are easily blendable and not oily, providing a natural, flawless result (info via Wiki). Today, I'm reviewing some CC Creams in the shade medium/natural.
Olay Total Effects CC Cream
- sheer coverage, but too many layers will make you look orange
- hides redness
- $23 for 1.7 oz.
- 3 shades
- thin, light, and similar to a BB Cream
- SPF 15
- Can be worn alone or as a primer. Skin will look very shiny at first, but after a few minutes it will soak right in.
- BEST FOR: oily skin, sheer coverage, uneven skin tone, light-feeling sunscreen
- my mom loves it, but I don't think I would repurchase
Hard Candy CC Cream
- Available at Wal-Mart
- 4 shades
- $8
- Balances skin with light optic pearls that help to neutralize the undertones of every skin type
- Soft, natural finish
- oil-free
- can be too orange
- very liquid-y
- worked well at covering redness, most coverage of the CC Creams I'm reviewing
- SPF 15
- wouldn't repurchase
Studio Gear CC Cream (sent for consideration)
- 3 shades
- $34
- SPF 20
- Starts off grey but blends well, as it adapts to skin tone
- hides redness
- light coverage and feel
- excellent hydration
- oil and paraben-free
- brightens skin
- can be worn over moisturizer, but I found it hydrating enough
- great for all skin types
- would purchase if cheaper
OVERALL: All of the CC Creams hid my redness,
but since I don't have age spots,
I couldn't tell if those were treated.
All were very light in coverage and feel,
and would work well with oily skin.
Do you use CC Creams?

ReplyDeleteSo interesting! I haven't heard of the CC creams (I am SO out of the loop when it comes to makeup), but the Olay one might work well with my skin.
ReplyDeletefor me it is bb and cc same :))))

I use the entire line of Olay products, and find them truly amazing! Their pricing is moderate and I've definitely seen results. :) xo T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI am really loving the IT Cosmetics CC. I think you would really enjoy it, too :)
ReplyDeleteI've never used CC Creams. Might be time to venture into new beauty territory:)
ReplyDeleteI've never used a CC cream but I've noticed that my skin tone seems to be getting a little more uneven so I've been thinking about starting. Sigh, I wish that $34 you reviewed were cheaper.

Thanks for the review and the comparison!
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's not just the price or effect, but also the ingredients... I am very picky as you can see... ;)
ReplyDeleteNever used a BB or CC cream, though. My initial choice was always a tinted moisturiser that did a great job, and now it's a light foundation that works for me. But it was great to read the reviews in case I ever change my mind and need to get one of these. :)

Good to know that these work - the BB creams made my skin ridiculously oily. I'm always looking for a good skin corrector!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the CC creams yet and that's a bummer that these weren't so great or too expensive. I've been using the Garnier BB cream in the oil free version.

There are already DD creams? Wow! I've yet to try a CC cream or even a BB cream.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews! I've never tried them, and it seems there are some misses out there.
ReplyDeleteHi Elle, thanks so much for reviewing these, I haven't tried CC creams as yet and its good to know whats out there and how it works.
ReplyDeleteomg i would love to try that Olay product!
ReplyDeleteI've dabbled through the BBs, the CCs, and the DDs. I just find that most do not offer enough coverage for my skin and are not suitable for my oily t-zone!
ReplyDeleteI have seen a lot of BB Cream reviews, but never knew why I never tried it. I love the reviews and how light it is to wear compared to a heavy coverage foundation.
ReplyDeleteI think when I run out of my foundation I will opt to purchase a BB cream to try out. I'll do a review by using it one whole month or until I run out of it . Should be a good challenge :)
BB creams were hit and miss with me but so are CC creams because of the shade ranges. I like the fact they are better for oily skin though, I just have to find the right one for me, xoxo.
ReplyDeleteI tried something like this once where the product is supposed to change to the color of your skin. But it didn't do much but I can not recall what line it was but it was from a drug store. These creams are all a little to weird for me sorta like pert a shampoo and conditioner in one. But for me this never really worked. Haha soon we are gonna be on ZZ creams!

I love my Yes to Grapefruit CC Cream! It's awesome. Next I think I may have to pick up the Hard Candy one you mentioned as it looks like a good one and I love the fact that it has a little more coverage compared to some of the others.
ReplyDeleteOh I've been wanting to try a cc cream but I don't know if I will try one out yet. I think if I find one that a lot of bloggers are raving about I might try it out. Thanks for your reviews because they help a lot! :)

I haven't tried a CC cream. I've been using Stila's BB cream, which I like a lot, but might not repurchase just because of the cost. But I also haven't found a drug store option I like.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried both BB and CC creams. What I usually do is mix moisturizer and concealer and instant tinted moisturizer. LOL!
ReplyDeleteBB, CC, DD... it all blends together! lol especially with American versions. I tried the Olay one too and was NOT impressed. Perhaps it works better for older ladies if your mom loved it. I kind of don't pay attention to the labels but rather the claims and SPF values on them. They all tend to be tinted moisturizers one way or another. Thanks for the reviews!
ReplyDeleteooh, thanks for the reviews! I've used BB Creams and have been wondering about CC. :)
