I first saw the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser (longest title ever!) last year on Asian beauty blogs, and couldn't wait for it to hit stateside. I finally saw it about a month ago at CVS and had to try it out. Would it instantly erase pores? Would it be a dupe for my fave primer, Benefit's The Porefessional? Watch the video to find out!
What is it?
- A clear primer for the face that is an "instant pore eraser" (see swatch above)
- It is similar to opaque primers, like Smashbox, but is thinner and clear.
- I've seen it in drugstores, Ulta, Bed, Bath & Beyond.
How much is it? How much product?
- $6-7 for .67 fl oz of product
PROS:
- Relatively inexpensive compared to many facial primers
- Great for dry skin
- Wonderful for an even, smooth base to apply makeup
- Thin consistency
- Available in drugstores
- Portable, perfect for travel due to small size
CONS:
- Silica-based, so sensitive skin, beware (it broke me out)
- Felt very greasy but not oily
- Didn't sink into skin and stayed on the surface (could be pro or con)
- Pills for some moisturizers/foundations (depends on formula)
- My pores were very much visible and I saw no difference on my skin, even after trying it for a month using a variety of application techniques.
OVERALL:
- I didn't like it at all, and don't consider this a dupe, but this is just my opinion. Try it and see.

I've never seen this before. Have yet to try any pore minimizing products, but this doesn't look too promising. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! I have been testing this out and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet! I don't think it's doing anything for me lol!

Great review. I was just looking at this product trying to decide if I should try it out. After watching your review I think I'm going to pass on this one. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was instantly excited when I saw the picture of the product you would be reviewing. I am so disappointed to find out that it is ineffective and will likely make havoc on my sensitive oily skin.

Thank you very much for such a helpful and honest review, Elle! x
ReplyDeleteLooks like I will avoid this like the plague if it broke you out!
ReplyDeleteOoh there are lots of great primers on the market right now! I think I might go for the L'Oreal Miracle Blur primer once I finish up my stash of samples (and my Monistat Chafing Gel is still going strong as my primer!). Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeletegreat reviews, I might have to give this a try

Thank you for an honest review! Not gonna lie I'm kinda bummed that it's not a dupe, and I have more oily skin so I definitely don't think this would work for me. I'd really like to try the Benefit Porefessional primer, and I'm glad to hear that you like that one.
ReplyDeleteI was looking at this at the drugstore the other day and I was wondering about it. I'm so glad you did a review because I'm sure it would probably break me out and I have oily skin too so it's probably not the best for me. I will have to look for another drugstore option for a primer, by any chance have you tried loreal's studio secrets? I was looking at that the other day too because I just ran out of the primer I had and I want to try something different.

I'm so glad I watched your review Elle because I probably totally would have bought this. Some of the primers are so expensive, but if it doesn't make that much of a difference with pores etc, I'll probably stick to Smashbox. One drugstore brand primer I do really like though is Rimmel I think 001 formula. It's good. :) Happy New year and great video - you do your makeup really well for the camera. Very pretty!

ReplyDeleteThanks for an honest review!
I was about to pick this up! thanks for saving my money girl!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to try these out! At $6 each--wow! :) Happy New Year's!!! :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletelol love your enthusiasm! A lot of the American versions of Asian products suck (i.e. BB, CC Creams). Thanks for the review... can save me $$. I love Benefit's! Sometimes its worth splurging on a product if it works rather than wasting money on cheap-o stuff that doesn't work.
