It's around this time of year that I reflect on the past year, and think about everything that has happened. I like to admire the accomplishments of the past year and see all of the areas in my life that could use work. Like everyone, I make a list of my resolutions. I like to think of it as my New Year, New You.
Making resolutions gives me goals, something to look forward to, and that's an important part of aging. And thanks to Get Old, I'm going to talk more about that today. Get Old is an initiative developed by Pfizer to challenge people of all ages to rethink what it means to Get Old and take a more active role in their health and quality of life at every age.
I don't like to think of "Get Old" with negative connotations. There is still so much to look forward to, like those resolutions. The activities that I choose to do now in life will help me in the future. Allow me to share some of my resolutions for 2014:
- Get Checkups
- So often we never see a doctor until something is wrong. Regular checkups could be helpful for me.
- Continue Healthy Living
- I have recently lost 40 pounds, and am continuing that journey.
- Making Plans
- Having plans for the future helps me in the future, as I have something to look forward to.
- Staying Active
- I've never been a fan of exercise, but having an active lifestyle really makes me feel better too...not just now, but as I Get Old.
- I'm not letting age keep me from enjoying activities that I've always enjoyed.
- Weekly/Monthly Resolutions
- I've done these in the past and they really helped. Having a small goal every week or every month was very feasible to accomplish.
- Keep Mentally Active
- Reading, focusing on my memory skills, switching my routine occasionally, and playing puzzle games
- Relax
- Clearing negativity and worry from my mind certainly helps, as stress ages people. Have you ever noticed that?
What are you doing to Get Old well?

Great resolutions! I also try not to think of getting old as a negative thing, since it is a gift denied to many.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss. I need to get in better shape. I was working out 3 days a week and haven't done that in a month now.

Nice post, that's gonna be a good year :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good resolution list! It's so easy to make resolutions that are so hard to maintain and so "out there." Yours all seem very manageable and gave me ideas for my own list! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to view getting old as a negative thing but after a recent spate of bad health, I now believe it's quite the privilege. My resolutions have to do with well-being as well.

ReplyDeleteI think relaxing is HUGE. We all need that time every once in a while to re-charge ourselves so that we're ready for the other things we're aiming for in life!

ReplyDeleteps, congrats on the weightloss
These are all fantastic resolutions! Congratulations on losing all that weight, wow! I really should get regular check ups. That is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm always getting check-ups, 1-2 times / year, most of the times with no bad results, yey! Which is why I feel some docs might think I'm some weirdo hypochondriac..
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to make relaxing a top priority. I'm too busy all the time, and I know it isn't healthy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on losing 40lbs! That's fantastic! Your resolutions sound really good. x
ReplyDeleteBecause of my cancer years ago, I have to have a lot of checkups, but I think it's a great thing. You can catch things that are going wrong early, and you know that things are going well when you're healthy. :) And congrats again on your weight loss! That is a huge accomplishment, and you are inspiring to a lot of people.

ReplyDeleteWhen I turned 20 I felt 'old', but since everyone guesses me to be 16/17 I guess that's no problem at all. And congratulations on losing 40 pounds and getting active! That's a great accomplishment!
