Worth a Read: The Golden Apple by Faerl Marie

Today I'm sharing something a little different--a book review! I know many of you are avid readers like I am, so of course I jumped at the chance to read The Golden Apple, by Faerl Marie. The main character of this pop fiction is an Atlantan who uproots her life to move to New York City and recover from the loss of her husband.Check it out:

Summary:

MEET POPPY PARKER, a recent widow who knows she must move forward but has no idea which direction to take. To start fresh, Poppy moves from her idyllic home in Georgia to the grimy glamour of New York City to open up her own boutique and find a way to live and love without her husband. 

Austin Bandy has been in love with Poppy since the moment he laid eyes on her years ago, right before her wedding. Now she is back, grieving and broken hearted by her nearly-perfect husband’s death—not Austin’s ideal romantic situation. He needs to wait for her to recover but not so long that someone else has the chance to move in and sweep his dream girl off her feet and keep him as a “good friend” forever.

Poppy checked herself one last time in the rearview mirror before getting out to greet Austin. He threw his leather duffel in the back and slammed the hatch down. Austin stood two feet from her for a moment before pulling her into a hug. She relaxed in his arms as he leaned back from her and took the keys, smiling. “I was nervous about you driving in the city.” “Well, she’s in one piece. No dents or dings.” “I don’t care about the car.” He looked at her. She thought of London and their conversation a few days before.

Review:

Faerl said I would like this book because the main character Poppy is very much a southern lady--bright, stylish and genuine. And she was so right. Being a born-and-raised Southerner, I could easily see the Southern charm of Poppy. I loved all of the fashion references, too. I found this a light, quick, and delightful read--a perfect read when you can steal away for a few moments. Despite the initial despondent premise of Poppy recovering from her husband's loss, this story was full of hope and utterly charming. A solid effort from Faerl Marie! Reading The Golden Apple is a great way to spend an afternoon, preferably while wearing something stylish! ;)
