First off, thank you to everyone for your sweet comments concerning yesterday's post.
I am overwhelmed with love and support. Thank you.
I'm a bit of a dry shampoo junkie--I've done several posts about different brands, uses, and techniques. And for this week's This or That, I'm sharing two "new" dry shampoos I've not shared here before, and that are very similar. Check 'em out:
Garnier Fructis Haircare Volume Extend Instant Bodifier Dry Shampoo for Fine or Flat Hair
- Extends Volume a Full 24 Hours
- Garnier Fructis Volume Extend Dry Shampoo, containing a blend of orange citrus and grape extract, immediately refreshes and bodifies lifeless locks, instantly creating volume you can see and feel.
- Just spray into flat hair and comb or brush through to absorb oil, instantly eliminate weight and refresh your volume anytime, day or night.
- INGREDIENTS: Butane, Alcohol Denat., Propane, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Diisopropyl Adipate, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Fragrance, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange Peel) Oil, Hexyl Cinnamal, Amyl Cinnamal, FIL D158388/1
- $5.49 for 3.4 oz
- Invisible dry shampoo, so no worry about white cast in hair--great for darker hair
- A strong smell that is great at refreshing hair, especially after being around strong odors.
- Gives some volume
- Some may not like the strong smell
- It feels like I use more, since it has such a light, hairspray consistency, and I went through this rather quickly
- Doesn't absorb oil in hair very well
- I can definitely tell there is alcohol in it.
OVERALL: If you're looking for a product in between a dry shampoo and a volumizing hairspray, try this. It's one of the best non-rice powder dry shampoos I've used.
L'Oreal EverStyle Texture Series Energizing Dry Shampoo
- This energizing, oil-absorbent dry shampoo instantly refreshes dull hair without adding water.
- The virtually invisible, talc-free formula with micronized minerals renews hair by instantly cleansing, extending the life of any style.
- 100% Vegan, No Silicones, No Synthetic Dyes
- INGREDIENTS: Butane, Alcohol Denat., Propane, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Diisopropyl Adipate, Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Alcohol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Parfum/Fragrance, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Amyl Cinnamal.
- $6.99 for 3.4 oz
PROS:
- Almost invisible dry shampoo--great for darker hair
- Strong smell, especially after being around strong odors
- Gives some volume
- Helps some with oil reduction
CONS:
- Some may not like the strong smell
- There can be a slight white cast
- I feel like I go through this product really quickly
OVERALL: If you're looking for a product in between a dry shampoo and a volumizing hairspray, try this. I love how lightweight it is in hair.
This or That?
- I would repurchase either of these, as they are both great, lightweight dry shampoos. Brunettes and those who don't like a lot of product in their hair should check out either. These products are very similar, but I think I like the L'Oreal dry shampoo just a bit more. It did a better job at helping with oily roots and didn't feel as drying (I have frizzy hair) as the Garnier one.
What two products would you like to see next on This or That?
MORE DRY SHAMPOO INFO:
- How to Use Dry Shampoo, Plus Reviews
- Try using dry shampoo the night before and then brushing through in the morning.
- If you're too tired after a long night out to wash your hair, spray dry shampoo all over your hair, then brush through, to quickly get rid of stinky hair before sleeping. You'll probably have white powder residue, but the function here is to rid the smell. Check out my other No More Stinky Hair tip.
- Spray a little dry shampoo on your Bobby Pins before using them for extra hold in hair.
- Dry shampoo works for stinky shoes too! I use this when traveling so my suitcase doesn't smell. Just spray a little into shoes and let them dry overnight.
Great review- I've been curious about both of these! Might have to pick one up this weekend on a Target run. :)

These sound like great products! I love the idea of spraying dry shampoo into shoes while traveling.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the loreal one yet but I agree that you run through the garnier one incredibly fast! Batiste is still the only dry shampoo I like

I love dry shampoo, but I've never tried either of these I don't think. I'll have to add them to my list to try now for sure.
ReplyDeleteI been use the sauve dry shampoo with a yellow tube. When I run out I will try the l'Oreal one. Also great tips on how to use dry shampoo. I never thought about using it out night.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking for a new dry shampoo yesterday! In store, I was leaning toward L'Oreal, but I have fine, flat hair. Garnier may be more beneficial. I'll probably grab both. Thanks for the review!

I've never used a dry shampoo before. I usually wash my hair every other day, but I could easily go several days more so I wouldn't need a dry shampoo in between. But I can see the appeal for girls who have to wash their hair every day!
ReplyDeleteloreal one looks better to me!
ReplyDeleteSince I completely rely on dry shampoo I'd love to try Garnier, it sounds lovely :o) Xx

I've been wanting a dry shampoo with a pleasant scent. The one I currently have I never use because I can't stand to smell it in my hair all day. I'm going to check these out next time I'm shopping!

ahh good to know! i have never used dry shampoo before but now i want to try it. xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteNice. I would probably go with garnier as I have been using their other hair products and love it.
ReplyDeletei've been using toni and guy dry shampoo, i really like it! i love the volume it gives.
ReplyDeleteI've only used Tresemme (sp?) and Dove, but I may test these two out!
ReplyDeleteI had such a weird experience with the l'oreal dry shampoo! I agree the scent is a bit much but for some reason it sprays out so wet! It does give a white cast after like 45 seconds or so, but it's like it takes a lot of time to set or something? I haven't tried the garnier but batiste is still my favorite!
ReplyDeleteExcellent review! I've never tried a dry shampoo before, so your findings were interesting. Thanks Elle.

I love dry shampoo! Sometimes my daughters and I just NEED to use it. Thank you for these reviews.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review! My personal favourite when it comes to dry shampoos is the Kevin Murphy one - it's just fab! x
ReplyDeleteThese are great recommendations! I'm constantly on the hunt for something that doesn't make me look GRAY when I'm done spraying it!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a good dry shampoo. I've tried a few and haven't been happy with any of them! They always leave my hair feeling gunkier than it was before I used the product! I'm dying to find a dry shampoo that can help me keep the oiliness at bay between washings. I'm not sure if I'm completely sold on the 2 you've reviewed today. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on other dry shampoos!

Great reviews - super helpful! Thanks for stopping by my blog dear :)
ReplyDeletei am still on the search for the perfect dry shampoo! might have to give the LO one a try
ReplyDeleteThis is probably a REALLY stupid question, but does dry shampoo work for curly hair? My hair is so dry and prone to getting tangled that I've worried about using dry shampoo, but maybe it would be fine.
