I like to save money whenever I can, but my one splurge is getting my hair done every now and again. And here are my 5 tips on how I try to preserve my blowout as long as possible:
You'll need:
- hair pins or elastics
- teasing comb or brush
- dry shampoo
- satin pillowcase
- shower cap
How to:
- Whenever your hair doesn't need to be seen, like in the car, at home, or when you're asleep, put your hair in a high, loose bun. This serves two purposes: it helps to hold the curl in your hair AND keeps volume.
- Another way to help keep volume is to use a teasing comb or brush to tease/back comb roots.
- Dry shampoo is a great product to have! Use it to keep greasy hair at bay and to add volume. See my post here on how to use dry shampoo correctly.
- The more you mess with your hair, the quicker your blow out will fall out. Keep frizz at bay by using a satin pillowcase. I use one nightly and swear by this tip. Your hair will stay smooth. Bonus: you won't have sleep creases on your face! See more benefits here.
- Finally, when in the shower, use a shower cap! I snag these when I travel, but these can be purchased at any beauty supply store (Ulta has them too). Bonus: I keep one in my travel bag to wrap around dirty shoes in my suitcase!
Do you splurge or save when it comes to your hair?

ReplyDeleteI always read your blog just hardly comment (sorry girl). Today I decided to stop and write something. This post will actually help me next week. I need my blow out to stay longer than usual...so fingers crossed I do my best in maintaining my do. :)
ReplyDeleteMust really invest on a satin pillowcase. The only thing for hair I would consider a splurge is my GHD straightener, which I don't even use that much anymore...sigh....
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I haven't splurged on getting my hair done in a long time, but it's definitely something I've loved the couple times I've had it done!
ReplyDeleteA satin pillowcase! Why did I never think of that? I totally splurge on my hair but then again it's thick, frizzy, and curly so a certain amount of investment is required!
ReplyDeleteI need to invest in a satin pillow case! My hair gets so bent and frizzy every night. I also need those super cool hairpins!

I have such fine hair, a blowout barely lasts a day, this is good advice! Happy End of the Week!
ReplyDeleteDry shampoo is like a gift from god. I seriously don't know what I ever did before I discovered it!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I definitely need to get a satin pillow case.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with the satin pillowcase. I started using on a few months ago and wow what a difference.

Great tips, Elle! I think the older I get--the more I seem to splurge on my hair (at least to some extent). T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteNice tips. I like saving money and looking great.
ReplyDeleteA satin pillowcase is a wonderful thing!
ReplyDeleteI've never gotten a blowout before. I'd def say I'm a saver when it comes to my hair. I dye it myself, Pete's mom cuts our hair for free... I use plain coconut oil most of the time for a deep conditioner. I'm plain Jane. :)
ReplyDeleteI am all about trying to go a few days between shampoos to fight the damage from this cold weather. All great tips to use. I haven't used a satin pillow before though.
ReplyDeletelove your suggestion! xx
ReplyDeleteUnlike many girls, I have never bothered with my hair. Always the same style, wash, condition, use mask once every week and that's it. Never curl or style. But this post makes me want to be more adventurous...hubby is soo gonna 'love' this! LOL!
ReplyDeleteyeah, i have to look into those satin pillowcases :)
ReplyDeletewow! i'll try this for sure!

I have the most unruly hair so I will spend a good penny for a blowout. I only go to my hairstylist since I am so picky. I wash my hair every other day and keep it up in a loose bun when I'm at home. Great tips esp the pillowcase :)
