Garnier Skin Renew 5 Second Blur Instant Smoother
- Claims to blur wrinkles, fine lines, flaws and visible pores.
- In 5 seconds skin feels smoother, looks younger, and is more radiant
- Directions: Spread a dime size amount of Garnier Skin Renew 5 Second Blur Instant Smoother over entire face. Wear it alone or apply makeup as usual. Before each use, shake tube downward for easier dispensing of product.
- $14.99-$20 1 oz.
- This reminds me of NYX's Pore Filler or Smashbox's colored primers. This does a decent job of minimizing the look of pores. Silica is the main ingredient, which is common in most primers, to give the slip and smooth appearance on skin. It also causes many, such as myself, to break out, so I don't wear it daily (other than for testing purposes). In fact, when I applied it all over, I had the tiniest pimple appear instantly.
- I found it worked best if used only on areas that needed it--I can't wear this all over my face.
- If you saw yesterday's post, this was the product that had the biggest ring around it. I found my skin did feel smoother. I wouldn't repurchase this but it was fun to try and test out.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code™ Texture Perfector Pore Vanisher
- Claims to instantly diminish the look of pores.
- Micro-exfoliates to smooth skin’s surface and absorbs excess oil for 8 shine-free hours.
- Over time: Strengthens and tightens to shrink the appearance of pores.
- In 1 month: Shrinks actual pore size
- Directions: Smooth over entire face AM and PM. Use alone or as the last step in your skincare routine.
- $19.99-$25 1.4 oz
- This primer was also on yesterday's post. This is a thick and creamy texture, similar to Too Faced's Primed and Poreless, but with more of a moisturizer feel to it, kind of like Boots No.7 Wrinkle Filler and Primer.
- You can't shrink pores, but the appearance can be altered, and I noticed no difference after using 1 month. I did notice that this did a great job in minimizing the appearance of pores. I tested it twice a day, but prefer wearing it only when wearing makeup.
- Silica is in this, but it didn't have that slip. Some foundations applied better than others as this didn't sink into the skin like other primers. I liked wearing this alone.
- I would repurchase.
This or That?
- I definitely liked the L'Oreal version better, but felt I had to use more product to get the results I wanted. While my dry skin loved the medium-thick texture of this, it might be too much for oily skin (I suggest everyone try it if interested, just hang onto the receipt).
- As always, these are my opinions, and I urge you to purchase and test the products yourself!

I'm going to have to try the L'Oreal one! I'm the same way, always looking for the perfect primer! Still haven't found it yet but sometimes I mix primers to get the effect I'm looking for!

I love when you do these post.
ReplyDeleteHey Elle! I have found that I can't use these products because they clog my pores, and I breakout. Did these have that effect on you?

The L'Oreal one sounds great! I will have to try it out.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! I've noticed that when I was using a silica based primer my face broke out as well. It took me a whole to figure that out! I may try this loreal one though!
ReplyDeletei might try the loreal one after ur review!
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about the L'Oreal one, I think I may have to try it out now! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm a big Garnier fan, I'll take a look at the L'Oreal one.
ReplyDeleteThe L'Oreal one sounds great but my skin can get oily so I'd have to be careful with it!

I haven't tried either yet, but I've heard so many great things about the L'Oreal one! I have to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to find the *perfect* primer. I do love MUFE's HD primer. It works so well with their HD line (which is fabulous for covering up my sunspots!), but it's a bit pricey. I've yet to find a drug store alternative :(

I will have to check out the L'Oreal brand. I have yet to find a really great primer for my skin.
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Elle! I love how you always give a very honest and genuinely helpful opinion about everything.
ReplyDeletei never wear primers, but have looked into the l'oreal one. great review!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of the "5 second blur" I think I'm going to give that a try!

I've been curious about each of these so I'm glad you did a review on both of them! I have say, overall Garnier always markets really cool products but leave me feeling disappointed. :/
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I had not heard anything about the Garnier 5 Second Blur, but I've heard great things about the L'Oreal. I may give the L'Oreal a try after I finish up my sample of Benefit's Porefessional. xoxo Lauren from WillSingForMakeup
ReplyDeletegood to know! im not too sure i have big pores or not. if i notice it tho at least i now know what to use. xo
ReplyDeleteI tried the L'Oreal version recently and it definitely did not work with my oily skin. I am also always on the lookout for products to help minimize and/or conceal pores.
ReplyDeleteTracy @ Sunny Days and Starry Nights
I have never use any primer or pore minimizer but you certainly got me curious! You're a bad, bad, badddd influence! LOL!
ReplyDeleteCurrently I'm using smashbox. I need to try Youthcode. Sounds nice. Thanks Elle.

Great post, I definitely think I want to try the L'Oreal one!
ReplyDeleteI've not tried L'Oreal or Garnier for these, but I have tried Smashbox in the past. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteEven without this comparison, I'd still go for L'Oreal. I don't have anything against Garnier products. I just am a loyal patron of L'Oreal.
ReplyDeleteniice!
ReplyDeletei wanna try both!
happy weekend!

I have some teeny weeny laugh lines starting to show, so this sounds like it would work for those :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this review! I have noticeable pores and love that you are always trying out new pore vanishers. Did follow the directions for L'Oreal and wear it over makeup?
ReplyDeleteHello Elle,
ReplyDeleteI would like to try both actuallly.
Lisa @ Girl at the Beach. x
I've heard good things about the loreal primer. I may have to try that one out.

Ack! I'm so behind in the world of beauty products. I had no idea you could get pore vanishers. I'd really like to try one of these, especially on my nose!
