You'll Need:
- 1 c baking soda
- 3/4 tbsp water
- 2 1/2 tbsp veg oil
- 1/2 c cornstarch
- 1 tsp essential oil
- 1/2 c epsom salt
- 4 tbsp cream of tartar
- bowl and spoon
- clear, plastic Christmas ornament that snaps in half
- decorative, crafty items for presentation (see more below)
- I usually suggest a citric acid recipe, but since this is last minute, I figured not everyone would have it on hand. Search my blog for "bath bomb" to see more recipes.
- If using a large clear ornament, I would double this recipe.
- Mix the dry ingredients and add the oils. I have used peppermint, vanilla, and other body-safe oils for scent.
- Add a few drops at a time of water to the mix and rapidly stir until it has a mushy consistency.
- Work quickly, because if you add too much water at a time, your mix will bubble and fizz.
- Grab one of those clear, plastic ornaments that snap in half--I bet there's one on the tree!
- Press mix into ornament half and allow to set for at least 30 minutes. I place the molds onto a smaller bowl, muffin tin, or something to hold them in place while they set. Carefully place one half ornament on top of the other and allow to dry for a few hours. I usually do this over night.
- Carefully remove out of the molds. See options below on decorations.
--To decorate these, I like using stickers, permanent markers, or food coloring with a toothpick to decorate. I've also used royal icing, but this since is last minute, I didn't do that here. Place upright in a clear bag and don't forget the ribbons and tag!
--I used large clear ornaments but have also used a melon baller, a meatball baller, and molds found in craft stores and online.
--I like making several of these "snowballs" and I'll place fake snow or crinkly shredded paper in the bottom of the bag (or jar if I'm feeling fancy) and then add my snowballs. I'll make a cute tag saying what they are and how to use them. Add cute ribbons! I recently made these for a Frozen birthday/slumber party and they were a hit!
Are you finished with wrapping and buying presents?
I went to get more paper/bags and ended up
buying new bathroom accessories! Oops.
But I'm FINISHED!
So cute! I absolutely love bath bombs, they're so therapeutic!
