You will notice that a lot of these items I wouldn't repurchase. That doesn't mean they are awful, they just aren't my favorites. I encourage you to try what piques your interest (just keep the receipt!). Everything was purchased by me and has been thoroughly tested--no first impressions here! Enjoy and let me know the ones you're interested in!
First up is the new L'Oreal Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender. While this setting spray (water and alcohol are first 2 ingredients) worked on me, it is really pricey for a drugstore product! $13--what?? But it's so good!
I tried out a couple of new foundations. The Covergirl Ultra Smooth Hair Smoothing Foundation + Applicator has an interesting concept. Place foundation on the silicone applicator and apply to face to smooth down hair on face. It did work but the foundation took a while to apply all over my face. A brush worked just as well (depending on the brush) with the foundation. I got a slightly medium coverage with this, but it is tacky-feeling. I usually dermaplane so I don't have to deal with hair, but some might want to try this. Wouldn't repurchase.
Revlon has the new Insta-fix foundation. This stick foundation is nice for touchups on the go, gives a light to medium coverage, but I don't think oily skin would get a full day's wear out of it. Wouldn't repurchase, but keeping in my travel bag!
Mascara time! Covergirl's Full Lash Bloom says it has flake-free and soft lashes, thanks to the beeswax. I found it gave me a nice natural volume and I had no flakes. Not bad, but I want a more dramatic mascara, but many of you will love this.
Rimmel has Wonderlash--which says it has clump-free volume and definition and has Argan oil. I found I liked it the more I used it, but felt it did clump on me. I liked it for definition but didn't give me the volume I was hoping for. A nice mascara, just not my fave.
Maybelline Lash Sensational was my fave out of the three. I wore it in my latest tutorial--Holiday Makeup--did you see it? Anyway, it's more of a wetter mascara and gave me the volume I was looking for. Not a holy grail mascara, but I do like it a lot. All 3 mascaras with one brush-through are pictured below:
I'm sneaking in some high end lipsticks--hope you won't mind. Designer Prabal Gurung collabed with MAC and I fell for the packaging on this lipstick. Isn't it pretty? It's Light English Red, yes red but it's a sheer (lustre) mauve. It makes for a great natural lipstick on me.
Troi Ollivierre, better known as the beauty guru for JCrew, released his own line of lipsticks last month. You know the infamous Poppy JCrew lip? That's him. I grabbed two colors in George (orange-poppy red) and Parker (pinky red) and love them. The swatches for the 3 lipsticks are below.

I found the rimmel mascara the best among all and loved the packaging of lippies as well :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the haul.. especially those lipsticks they look so good :)
ReplyDeleteI love the packaging of the Prabal with MAC.

Such a bummer that you weren't 100% in love with any of the mascaras...I'm looking for a new drugstore one. I like the way they look with lash sensational so maybe I'll try that!! Hope you feel better! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI think good mascaras are so difficult to find. We all need very different things depending on the lash!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to check out that Parabal Gurung line at MAC! Thanks for the reviews Elle!

so going to have to try out the cover girl mascara. When I run out of what I have been using now. I so happy you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThat foundation does seem good in concept, but if it takes so long to apply, you might as well dermaplane! Love the JCrew lip colors! They are so bright and pretty!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better!!! I think everyone has been battling all sorts of wicked colds this year :(
ReplyDeleteI love the make up extender that is really a great drug store find!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel bettter.

That Rimmel mascara looks lovely on your lashes. (: These are great reviews. I love the side by side comparisons of mascaras. Everyone should do that! Have a great weekend Elle! And no, I haven't wrapped a single present yet.... (;
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honest feedback, nothing worse than thinking something will be great only to be disappointed. I've yet to find a finishing spray that doesn't make me feel like I'm spraying hairspray on my face.
ReplyDeleteThat first lipstick looks fabulous and well worth the price.
Still sick? UGH.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I like best about your blog is that you don't use something once or twice and make a declaration on it.
Oh no, I hope you'll get better soon Elle, it's terrible to be sick during Christmas. And big thank you for your reviews on the 3 mascaras, those were on my list to buy but I will definitely skip them now, you save me some money there. I really like the shade George and Parker! So bright and bold, my type of lipsticks for sure. xx

Great post with honest reviews! I was kind of curious about the L'Oreal Setting Spray but you are right $13 for drugstore is a lot! If I can find it on sale or use a coupon I may check it out! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts on all these! It was really helpful!
ReplyDeleteWow that foundation, what a different concept. Not sure how I'd feel about that one haha! Sorry to hear you're still sick!
ReplyDeleteYou've been sick forever! I hope you feel better soon! I would like to try those new foundations, I'm always skeptical because I hate being disappointed. And I did want to try the setting spray too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reviewing all of the mascaras! I've wanted to try all of these, so seeing side by side comparisons is really helpful!
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to try those lipsticks. The colors are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat lipstick! *insert heart eyes* ugh, gorgeous..
ReplyDeleteI love big lash mascaras too so thanks for the reviews :) I was curious about that Parabul Gurung collaboration. Want to play with it in person.
ReplyDeleteMaybelline for the win based on your comparison! Love those lipsticks too!
ReplyDeleteWow, I would love to try these Prabal Gurung lipsticks! I need to find them :) I took some weeks off from the blogosphere, but now I am back again, and subscribed, so that I won't miss your posts!

I need to wear mascara more.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you feel better!
Oh, I forgot: I hope you are fine soon! Two months is a long time, pls recover well soon!

Is it sad that I am intrigued by the full lash bloom solely for the packaging?
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend!!!
I'm sorry you're still sick, Elle! The Hair Smoothing Foundation sounds interesting, and I might try it at some point. I used to get all the hair on my face threaded, but it was way too painful.
ReplyDeleteFoundation to smooth down hair?!? Okay I'll be honest--I think that's so silly! We are mammals, after all...we're supposed to have hair on our faces! To each their own...
ReplyDeleteGreat reviews and so sorry you are still sick. I like Clump Crusher, I tried a different mascara but it keeps flaking off under my eyes, from my top lashes! Ugh.

Such a good review and I totally would have bought the Smoothing foundation because I've never heard of a foundation that does that, but after what you mentioned I think I'll skip it. It's so hard to find a good foundation! I have to get some of the Maybelliene Lash Sensation! That sounds great!!
ReplyDeletexoDale
Thank you for all the reviews -- I was particularly interested in the Covergirl foundation and mascara. I think I will pass on them both now, though, so thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteFeel better! Love the reviews and I am a mascara girl so I might have to check that one out!
ReplyDeleteI would try the Revlon concealer. That stinks you wouldn't purchase a lot of the items. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThose lipsticks look amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews Elle!

So many new things! I didn't know there was a make-up extender... I wonder what's in it because I remember some girls spraying their faces with hair spray before this one was around... Hope you feel better soon, Elle! x
ReplyDeleteI love Lash Sensational and most of the Maybelline products work really well for me:)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your reviews. It's pretty hard to beat L'Oreal mascara. That's my favorite. Hope you get better soon!
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome round-up review post, Elle! I've been so curious about the Rimmel Wonderlash but I might skip it now. I like the Maybelline Lash Sensational, too, but I still prefer the L'Oreal Miss Manga. May it never be D/C'd! I've been sick for 2 weeks myself and was diagnosed yesterday with a sinus infection and bronchitis. It seems like a lot of people are sick in the A! I hope you're feeling fabulous by Christmas Eve, my friend! Much love and MERRY CHRISTMAS! <3 Oh and PS: nope...haven't wrapped gifts, either! :// -poo!
ReplyDeleteI like a mascara that gives volumes and lengthens. I've been using one by Make Up For Ever lately.
ReplyDelete-Sharon
The beeswax in the Covergirl mascara sounds interesting. I like mascaras that don't feel like mascara, if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteTwo months is a long time to be sick. Hope you are getting better! The MAC lipstick packaging is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteMaybelline knows how to make a drugstore mascara! If I'm in a pinch, their regular old pink bottle green cap mascara is what I bring home. Not gonna lie, I love all of those lip sticks and I may spend way too much money on them. lol.
ReplyDeleteThe two last lipsticks really look cute- have not heard of this brand yet- gonna check them out! xoxo, Sissi www.beauty4free2u.com
ReplyDeleteThat English Red lipstick is TDF! I adore mauve and am glad to see its return! T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for these reviews! I've been interested in trying most of these products but now I won't waste my money on some of them!!!
ReplyDeleteI am literally standing in Target right now and the Rimmel Wonderlash mascara caught my eye. It sounds like a winner from description, but so does most make up. So I decided to look it up on your blog and sure enough you've reviewed it! Thanks for saving me $8 on a mascara I won't love!
