Hey you! So, let's be honest here--what do you think of the new color of the year: Marsala? It's growing on me and it can be more versatile than you think! Today I'm going to share some of my fave marsala-inspired makeup. You really can wear this year-round!
The key is to think about it as a neutral, and to really think of all of the shades within it. Look at these two examples below:
Let's start off with lips, with MAC lipstick in Twig. It's very dark and marsala-related, but can be used for a variety of purposes:
I like to add it very lightly for a natural almost "stained" effect. Two more wearble (and affordable) options are Maybelline in Touch of Spice and Neutrogena in Rum Raisin. I share these in the video at the bottom.
Crabtree & Evelyn has a gorgeous shimmery shade in Cardinal, that is perfect for fall and winter, but how else can it be worn? Use it in nail art, from the very simple polka dots to the more complex. Try using it in a reverse moon or french mani. In the video I share an inexpensive drugstore alternative from Wet N Wild.
Blushes are the easiest way to wear this trendy color all year. Try using a light application before applying a cream or gel blush for longer staying power. Change your intensity in application depending on the season. This is one of those shades that looks good on everyone. Make it a little more berry if you'd like.
This is my eyeshadow steal. Right now it's $16.95 over at CoastalScents.com. You get 88 shades full of neutrals, including marsala. I'm wearing it in the video below.
Speaking of that video, I'm collabing with My Newest Addiction on our fave marsala makeup products, like some of the ones mentioned here today. PLUS Charlie makes a cameo!
Extra Elle:
- I hope y'all watch the video. I have really worked on my video editing skills and am proud of how this one turned out!
- Heading to my hometown this weekend for my s.i.l.'s baby shower! Baby niece coming soon!
- I've been sharing a lipstick every day for January over on my Instagram!
I have a similar nail polish, love your picks!

That is the type of colour I tend to avoid (a bit too out of my comfort zone) but the look you created is really natural and pretty. Love the look of that Tarte blush. Will try to lose my fear and experiment more with marsala. :) x

ReplyDeleteI love that lipstick...I'll admit to not being totally sold on the colour as a whole but that lipstick makes me rethink things a bit.

I was SUPER stoked when I heard Marsala was the color of the year. I loved that it was such a rich and deep color and something that I can really incorporate with my closet and can keep up with down the road. LOVE it especially for a lip or nail color.
ReplyDeletelove the lipstick!

Great post! I've been meaning to wear more make-up, I kind of stopped once I had a toddler in the house, lol! - www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeletei am really not a huge fan of the colour to be honest - though i could probably rock it as a nail colour. that lip colour looks gorgeous on you! i can watch the video (without sound lol) at work and it looks really good! and how adorable is charlie at the end?! he looks so sweet and sleepy lol
ReplyDeleteI love this color. I typically wear it in the nail polish category but I am going to branch out. That Tarte product looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed this video! When they first announced the color of the year, I wasn't sure that I liked it , but it turns out I have a few things in the Marsala range! Who knew I liked that color? haha
ReplyDeleteOk, so first of all, I had no idea that Crabtree & Evelyn made nail polishes now! Gorgeous color. Also love that Maybelline Touch of Spice that you are wearing. I think that is my favorite of all the Marsala lip shades.
I recently bought a blush from Milani that I think would fall in the marsala range called Red Vino. I talked about it in my latest beauty haul (which also happens to bet he first video I've ever made ahhh): http://amateandarottweiler.blogspot.com.ar/2015/01/major-beauty-haulin.html
And yesterday I wore one of the Rimmel Lip Pencils in Spice, which is a great marsala color. You can check it out here: http://amateandarottweiler.blogspot.com.ar/2015/01/al-rio.html
And oh my gosh, Charlie Brown is the sweetest little thing! I have the biggest soft spot for my furbabies too! Hope you have a great weekend in your hometown! xx
I have a C&E nail polish in a shade pretty close to the one you have in the video, I have the shade Pomegranate, a very deep red. Great video, Elle and yes, the editing is brilliant!

Love the Mac twig and Tarte exposed blush
ReplyDeleteI thought there was no way I could wear this shade of makeup until now!! I love the OPI mulberry polish and the Mulberry Mocha lipstick!! And those Neutrogena lipsticks are my favorite! Thanks for the great video! Please move to Ohio and do my makeup(: Susan
ReplyDeleteI really like the new color of the year! (Although I don't see much of a difference between that and a burgundy haha!)

Exposed is my favorite blush of all time. I'm super pale so I have to use a real light hand when applying. But it's such a gorgeous color! I'm really liking this trend. (:

Marsala's honestly not my favorite shade, but I certainly can see how it's a versatile choice. Have a fun weekend visiting your hometown! Home visits are always the best.
ReplyDeleteThat nail polish looks gorgeous! Never heard of this brand before! xoxo, Sissi www.beauty4free2u.com
ReplyDeleteMarsala definitely seems more wearable as a makeup color than radiant orchid was.
ReplyDeleteI was really on the fence about this color but I could totally do a nail polish or a lip color. I love CoastalScents
ReplyDeleteI have exposed and like it but wish it was a little darker on me. I am going to try to apply it with a heavier hand next time. I really like the shade Marsala its so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGoing to try to watch the video over the weekend (I'm at work now) but I love your tips and suggestions! I'm a marsala fan, and I'd love to try the Maybelline or Neutrogena lip options you mention. I don't think I'm ready for the MAC one :)
ReplyDeleteMAC Twig is my go to lipstick. I don't think I could do marsala on the eye. I love it for clothes though.
ReplyDeleteWill try to catch the video this weekend! At work and without headphones today so I can't even do it on the train.
This year color is starting to grow on me. Have fun at the baby shower.
ReplyDeleteLoving these tips (and that this is the color of the year!). Lips would probably work best for me - such awesome and in depth commentary, girl.
ReplyDeleteAmazing tips! This color is really the new hit! =)

Great suggestions! I am obsessed with Twig - it's definitely a more muted marsala option but beautiful. I've got to get me a tarte blush, I've got a lot of their cheek stains but no powder blushes!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this colour, especially as a lipstick and nail polish (and the clothes :) )
ReplyDeleteGreat video, Elle! x
Nice job on the video! Marsala is a really nice color. I think I'll try it, because it's not too far from the colors I normally wear.
ReplyDeleteI love this colour!! This is actually a colour I wear regularly as I think it goes with my skin tone!
ReplyDeleteMac Twig is my go to everyday color. I am so so obsessed with it, I at first thought it was too dark, but with my new short hair I am loving it! Great pics lady!
