My Fave Nude Lip Combo--All Drugstore

Well, y'all we have reached another Monday. I mean, how fast was the weekend? Already I feel like I'm playing catch up in the new year. And this chilly weather has gotten me wishing for brighter temps and colors. While I am still about my dark lips this time of year, I find myself wearing nude lips a lot lately. I usually associate nude lips with summer, with smokey eyes and tanned skin.

But today I'm sharing my current fave combo for wearing nude lips--nude lips aren't always easy to wear. I generally look like a zombie when I wear them, but this interpretation incorporates a a twist on the 90s lip revival. The best part? Everything can be found at your local drugstore.

If you can't wear nude lips because they look washed out on you, try this combo. It works.

You can do all three steps or just the ones that work for you. And of course I give extra options because I always do. People pleaser in recovery, y'all.

The first thing you'll want to do is outline and fill in your lips with NYX lip liner in Nude Truffle. This is a nude beige, and since my lips aren't pigmented in a pretty color (they look kind of taupe...um, not cute) adding this first really helps. If this is too brown for you, try other shades like Pale Pink or Peekaboo Natural. Options: leave as is for a beige matte lip, ala 90s. You can also slightly outline outside your lip, as demonstrated above, ala Kylie Jenner. She doesn't show a cupid's bow on hers, fyi.
Cheaper: Jordana
A Little More: Prestige (Ulta and some Walgreens...really love this brand)

To add that color back, it's time to apply lipstick. I'm using Milani Nude Creme. It is such a gorgeous nude lipstick. If your lips are already too pink and you'd like more brown, try Milani Teddy Bare. For more options, I really like lipsticks from Maybelline, Revlon, Covergirl, and Rimmel.

Since nude lip looks are generally very glossy, I added one of my favorite nude lip glosses: NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brûlée. They've got lots of shades that would work if you aren't a fan of this one. Tiramisu is a bit more brown, Eclair a bit more pink. There are new Lava lip glosses from Covergirl I'm a fan of (haul soon) that would work.

I love how natural and fresh this nude lip combo looks!

I'd love to learn your faves in the comments, below.

Extra Elle:
  • I bought a Macbook Pro! I'm in LOVE with it so far.
  • Finished my book for my #JALS challenge! Watch my video to see what I'm talking about and to join in!
  • Recently I've seen The Intimidation Game and Whiplash. Enjoyed both immensely--emotionally worn out by both!
  • I tried the Flat White at Starbucks and didn't like it. Did you?

  5. I've been very into the nude lip lately as well, but don't own any of these products! I will definitely be checking out the NYX lip liners and those other Butter Glosses. I currently own a few of the butter glosses, but mine are on the brighter side, so I'd love to try out some neutral colors. My favorite nude lip liner to line my lips with is Rimmel Lasting Finish 1,000 Kisses Lip Liner in Natural. I'm almost halfway through the pencil! xx

  7. I've never tried a nude lip because my lips are super unpigmented. :( I worry I would look too washed out. I really like how yours turned out though! The gloss adds dimension! I will have to give it a shot!

  25. Oh I love this!! I fear lip color so this is perfect for me! Now I have a silly question - when you use liner, do you line and then apply to the entire lip area? Does this help with the lipstick staying power? Thanks!! Susan

  27. I'm totally ok with pink nudes, like the one you have above. But I cannot deal when people call white lips "nude." No. no. no.

  40. I have such a hard time with the nude lip! It always seems to come out too nude if you know what I mean. I'll have to see if I can recreate this with similar products, though I think I'll need to get a lip pencil. All the ones I have are red!

  41. I like nude lipsticks, but the way you showed, with gloss later! For the extra notes, I also watched the Immitation Game and yes, it was inccredible! The other I didn;t, not yet! I normally don't like Starbucks, because I don't drink coffee, so I don't know that White drink :)
