This or That: Simple Cleansing Micellar Water Vs. Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution

Tell me: how do you remove your makeup? Wipes? Makeup remover? Soap and water? What?
Something I use from time to time is micellar water. And I'm comparing two of them today. Let me back up a bit:

What is micellar water? It's a product that removes makeup that feels like water and requires no rinsing. It's made from micelles, cleansing molecules that are in water. It is excellent for sensitive skin. It is oil-free. It is so gentle.

The first micellar water I tried was Bioderma, via an insistent shopkeeper in a French pharmacy (aka the best place for all things skin I've ever visited). But, it can be very pricey for "fancy water" as my friend Maca calls it. I love trying different micellar waters, so when Simple recently came out with their version, there was no question: I grabbed a bottle immediately and got to testing. For today's This or That, I'll be comparing Simple Cleansing Micellar Water Vs. Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution.

Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

  • $6.99 (-/+)
  • drugstores, chain stores, online
  • 6.7 fl oz.
  • no scent
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution
  • $22.99 (+/-)
  • online in America
  • 250 ml but comes in different sizes
  • comes in several varieties
This or That:
  • If you wear light makeup or have sensitive skin, you'll enjoy micellar waters. If you wear heavy makeup, stage makeup, or waterproof mascara, you'll need other options. I chose these two are they are both unscented, something that not all micellar waters share.
  • While both cleansers worked, Bioderma removed the most makeup on the first try. I would choose Bioderma, but it is pricey, in America and not as easily available.
Extra Elle:
  • I had a super quick trip 5 hours back home for my sis-in-law's baby shower. Everything that could have gone wrong on the trip pretty much did. It was kinda comical at that point but I finally got home and had a great time. How was your weekend?

  4. I'm a huge Bioderma fan! Too bad it is pretty pricey though....sigh....

  5. I have never heard of micelle removers. I use the Bath and Body Sensitive Makeup remover and it does the job. This sounds like a good alternative, though a bit pricey.

  6. I use my clarisonic and random cleansers to wash my face. I've never heard of micellar water. I'll have to try it and it sounds like it would be refreshing to use on a hot day in the summer! Thanks for sharing your review!

  7. I just saw Bioderma in the window at one of the pharmacies here (in Argentina) and it was about $250AR...I thought that maybe they jacked up the price as they do for many imported things, but now that I see that it's $23USD, the conversion sounds about right. I really would like to try it one day...seems like it is worth it. What happened on your trip back home? At least in the end, you could find humor in it all!

  11. I have never heard of micellar water. I would definitely try it out. I do wish you had said the drugstore version worked better! Ha! Usually, I use a wipe or makeup remover on a cotton pad and then use my facial cleanser to get anything off that I may have missed.
So sorry that you had a rough trip home. I am glad everything worked out in the end!

  12. The only one I've tried is Bioderma and I really like it. I don't use it to take off my makeup because that just takes too long for me. I normally take my makeup off with a makeup remover wipe, then wash my face with whatever cleanser, then use this to remove any extra makeup that I missed. It works great this way for me!

  13. Well I'm glad you made it home but I'm sorry it was a rough trip! I've never tried micellar water before but if I did I'd probably try the Simple (because again, I'm cheap :) ).

  17. I'll be picking up Simple to try when my current one runs out. I have thought of trying Bioderma but it's just pricey and not worth it for me. I don't have sensitive skin so I will stick to the cheaper alternatives.

  18. Oh no! Sorry to hear about your weekend. ): Fingers crossed everything goes a little smoother for you this week. I personally have always used wipes. But they do tend to leave a film on my face and even cause me to oil up. I think I'll try this Simple brand "fancy water," as your friend calls it. I've always been a fan of Simple's cleansers. (:

  19. I have never heard of this product. I usually wipe my face with a neutrogena make up wipe and then follow up with my face wash and other steps at night. I also use a separate eye make up removed on my eyes.

sorry to hear about your trip. I hate when things go wrong!!!

  22. I have never heard of Micellular Water before. Since I wear a face full of makeup most days of the week I would probably need something more heavy duty. But its great there is a more affordable option for people that may use this!

  26. I have always been curious about these, because I hate throwing away a wipe at the end of every day! I normally don't wear a ton of makeup (except for going out) so these would probably work for me!

  29. how interesting is this fancy water!! never heard of it. i'm all about the cheap stuff, so i would try the simple - but if you said the other one worked better on the first try, i might not get it at all. i do need a new makeup removing system though... soap and water does not cut it and i swear it's aging me faster lol

  35. I've been on the hunt for a cleansing water so thanks for this!! I like the idea of just keeping some in my purse. Often times if we go out, we end up back at a friends house or family's house to hang out for a while after the "outing." And I hate keeping my makeup on--so this is a great option to just quickly remove it! I'm definitely adding the simple one to my shopping list!

  36. I've been wanting to try micellar waters, so it's good to see more accessable brands coming out with them. Maybe I'll give the Simple one a try.

  37. Hah! I have this post scheduled for next week. I am obsessed with Bioderma. A friend recommended me trying the Simple. If I had never tried Bioderma, I would definitely go with the Simple brand. But Bioderma has my heart! xo

  42. See, what would I do without you to educate me on what "micellar" means??? I'm a gentle face cleaner, twice a day kinda gal. Followed by super duper moisturizer for my super duper dry skin. :)

  45. I normally use water and soap, although I have some makeup removers... Bare Minerals, for example, I really recommend, and Sisley too! But water is so good!
I am glad you had fun at the baby's shower, though during the trip things weren't so nice... I had a 10 h 20 min bus-trip last week, but it was good :) Just I forgot to put sun screen on my feet and they now look awful and in another color, different from my legs!

  47. I kept reading so many reviews of Bioderma and kept seeing every single beauty blogger and MUA talk about it that I finally bit the bullet and purchased it online. I had to admit that every review raving about it, was right. It's amazing and it's about the only cleanser that doesn't irritate my super sensitive eyes!

  48. I was wondering how it compared, thanks for reviewing! I'll think i'll try some of the Simple Skincare one first too see if I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I mostly use water and soap! haha :) However, I sometimes feel as if I need an extra rinse. I've never used micellar water, thanks for the review! I might try Simple as well.. before I jump on the higher priced product. Just to see! :)
