For most of us, we curl both sets of lashes and then move onto another step, whether it's applying shadow or makeup, or even mascara.
Instead, try this tip:
Pick an eye--let's say your left one. Curl lashes on your left eye, then apply mascara for your left eye. Repeat on the right eye.
The trick here is that if you curl both sets of lashes, by the time you apply mascara, one, if not both, will have lost their curl by the time you apply mascara.
Bonus tip: If I am doing mascara on someone with super-straight lashes (like someone Asian) I'll apply a small coat of waterproof mascara to hold the curl.
So repeat with me: curl then mascara...curl then mascara. Not curl, curl, mascara, mascara.
Extra Elle:
- It's currently snowing as I write this! Oh, it'll be gone in about 5 minutes, but I love the peacefulness of watching it snow.
- My Disney cold has returned. I went to sleep at 9 last night. 9!!! I'm usually a night owl-early riser. Hope your day is going well!
Ignore the lack of makeup (sick day) but can you tell the difference? |

I like to heat my eyelash curler up for a few seconds with my hair dryer, that certainly helps with the hold. I hope you feel better! We are supposed to get some snow tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI never thought to go from eye to eye. Will have to try this. Hope you receiver from that cold soon.
ReplyDeleteI always curl, curl then mascara, mascara haha :) I'll try it out your way next time, thanks for the tip :)

Feel better soon Elle! It's funny how something so simple can solve all your problems. lol.
ReplyDeleteSmart tip, lady!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elle! I will definitely try this tip b/c I am admittedly a curl, curl, mascara, mascara person, LOL! I hope you're feeling better soon! And yes - snow is all anyone at my job can talk about. I got clowned big time last Wednesday when it was snowing HARD and blowing around; I was SURE it would stick. Woke up Thursday and it was all gone. Sad! I wouldn't mind having Thursday off to relax and eat soup at home while the snow falls outside!
ReplyDeletegreat tip!!

I just told someone the story of one of the weddings I photographed... I had a bride who NEVER wore make up & her bridesmaids pulled out an eye lash curler & she was like "WHAT IS THAT?"... I laughed so hard watching her use it for the first time... I got a great picture of it too :)
ReplyDeleteI always do this and it really does make a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I hope your cold goes away ASAP!
ReplyDeleteI haven't used an eye curler in forever. Great tip though. Should I be using one?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!

Fab post hun, I always tend to curl one lash and then apply mascara straight onto it to stop the curl falling. Oh no I hope you feel better soon sweetie :(

Hi there, thanks for stopping by my blog today! What a great tip! I've actually never used an eyelash curler, I'm too intimidated by them! But I know I need to just do it, lol! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you do your eyeliner before or after curling? I was skeptical at first, but the Clinique primer works amazingly well at keeping a good curl, too :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a practical tip! Do you have a favorite eyelash curler?
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! That's a huge difference! I haven't used a curler for years because I didn't see a difference but maybe that's just because I was doing it wrong!
ReplyDeletegreat tip! I actually never really thought about that.
ReplyDeleteSuper-smart tip! I've been using the Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler for ages (the one in your photo) for ages and love it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI actually just started doing this! I kind of figured that the first uncurls a bit while you are curling the other. But because I haven't really developed this new habit yet, I get nervous I'm going to forget to curl the eyelashes on my second eye! haha

Wow, you really can tell the difference between the two! I never curl my lashes though, I admit :)
ReplyDeleteGreat tip. This is how I have always curled my lashes.
ReplyDeleteBeautetude
Oh, that's a good tip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tip! Who would have thought! Hope you feel better! 9 pm has probably never seen me asleep .. at least not in recent times ha!
ReplyDeletethat is a very good point, I'll try that out tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGot it Elle, curl then mascara... enjoy the snow btw :)

I had no idea!! Thank you for this great tip! I am sharing it with my daughter and trying it myself today!! Hope you feel better soon! Susan
ReplyDeleteI just bought my first eyelash curler recently...I only used it once because I felt like it did nothing, but maybe I'll have to give it another go today (using your tips) and see how it goes! I think using waterproof mascara might be key for me too! Thanks, Elle! xx
ReplyDeleteI will be honest, I admire who can use it, but thankfully it seems I don't need this tool - I say thankfully, because out of curiosity I tried it once and... no, I can't do it! But as I said, I admire the ones who can! I am so sorry to read that you cold came back! I know what you mean, I also prefer to sleep late, but with a cold in progress, you need to relax, for sure. Hope you recover soon!
ReplyDeleteDenisesPlanet.com
Really good tip! I've been doing it recently and it does make a huge difference. I also love waterproof mascaras. They hold the curl like no other. But I find it hard to get a really good one. Any recommendation? x
ReplyDeleteRenata | Speaking Beauty UK
interesting tip!
ReplyDeleteI forget about curling eyelashes. I have naturally curly hair which means naturally curly eyelashes in my case as well. So I don't curl mine, but this is a great tip!
ReplyDeletegood tips! i curl the base of my lashes and continue to depress the curler until i get to the end of my lashes...that always works for my super straight lashes!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a big difference! Great tips, Elle! I love this!

I hope this comment finds you feeling better! I am going to try that tip tomorrow. My lashes are super-duper straight, so I've always used a coat of waterproof mascara to seal the curl.
ReplyDeleteSo smart! And I can't believe I never thought of it! Haha! I hope you're feeling better. I was healthy for about two weeks, but woke up with a cold this morning. I cannot wait for winter to be over!
