Since love is in the air, or at least in decorative form on the blog, I've been pulling out all the pink lip products lately. Maybe it was that brief tease of warm weather? Today the two that I'm comparing two lip products that are kinda a mix of lipstick and gloss: This or That: Dior Addict Fluid Stick Vs. Maybelline Color Elixir.
Dior Addict Fluid Stick
- $35 .18 oz
- Sephora and department stores
- 16 shades
- No scent or taste that I detect.
- "A spectacular lip formula that packs the benefits of shiny gloss and pigmented lipstick into one color-rich product."
- "This stunning hybrid imparts high-impact shine with maximum color to offer a new kind of lip color. It’s lightweight in texture, boasts sensational color payout, and delivers long-lasting wear and a no-makeup feel with coverage that is between a gloss and a lipstick."
- I absolutely love these. They are moisturizing without being sticky and last longer than a typical gloss.
Maybelline Color Elixir
- $8.99 +/-
- drugstores
- 20 shades
- I detect a scent that doesn't bother me, but does for some.
- "A trio of concentrates delivers the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss."
- I really like these. They feel a bit more moisturizing and creamy at first, more like a typical gloss.
This or That?
It really comes down to preference, whether that is budget, scent or no scent, etc. I really would purchase either (and have obviously), but based on packaging and performance, I do like the Dior better. But, I know not everyone is gonna throw $35 for lipgloss. (Insert gif of someone throwing money into the wind, here! ;)
The Dior did last a bit longer. The Dior reminded a little of these lip glosses from Revlon so the texture feels different, kind of like a watery feeling that then feels more like a gloss. Maybelline is certainly a nice option for the price.
Extra Elle:
- My car hit 111, 111 miles, to which I immediately sent a pic of the occasion to my friends who were unimpressed! I was all excited and stuff! So now I'm telling you on the blog. ;)
- Anyone else LOVE the hearts on the Starbucks cups? I shared a pic of my heart nails with the cup on my Instagram. I had to, y'all. #itsthelittlethings
- I want to know the shade of your favorite lip glosses and/or lipsticks that are pink!
I need to get the Dior addict, I've wanted to try it forever.

Great reviews girl! As much as I love the Dior, I can't always justify spending that much on it so this sounds like a great alternative!

I love to know there is something comparable to the dior color!!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried a Maybelline Color Elixir yet, but I do have a Dior Flui Stick. They do pack a lot of color. I'm not sure it was worth the price though and I may have to try a Maybelline. Great Review. My favorite pink is Tarte Amazonian Butter in Tulip.
ReplyDeleteim glad the budget gloss is still a winner! xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteI have to say the packaging on the Dior is gorgeous, but I would probably get the Maybelline just because of price!
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Maybelline and while i'm not a huge fan of the texture it was a pretty color and I could see myself buying more. Thanks for the review! I'll have to try the Dior too!

These two products look like a lot of fun. For some reason, I love buying glosses more than lipsticks, so I will have to check these out.

*throws money into the wind......
ReplyDelete(; These are both really pretty. A friend of mine owns loads of the Dior Addict and I own one of the Maybelline versions. It's not a go to for me, because I prefer a matte lip, but for the price, they have great stay power.
I'm so impressed your car hit 111,111 miles. I totally would've done the exact same thing. (;
Oh I love posts like this that compare beauty products!! I've never tried either of these lipsticks! I never buy expensive lipsticks since there seem to be so many good affordable options.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the Dior, but I can't spend that much on lip gloss - I would feel bad to!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I love the pink shade Petal Rebel by Maybelline {it's one of those Color Whisper products}. For more full coverage I'm obsessed with Maybelline's Pink Pop {a seriously brilliant ColorSensational Vivids lippy!}.
xx
Great post, thanks for sharing! ^_^ - www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that price doesn't equal quality. I'm not sure I'd spend $35 on a lipgloss, but maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteThese both look great! In the past I probably would have bought the Dior option, but now whenever I can find a drugstore product that's almost as good, I go for that, especially when it comes to lip products since they don't last as long as a powder product such as blush or eyeshadow, for example. If I'm going to splurge I prefer to do it on something that I know won't expire in a year. As for my favorite pink glosses and or lipsticks...Glosses: Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in LA Exclusive, NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul, NYC Big Bold Plumping Gloss in Magnified Mauve. Lipsticks: Revlon Pink Blush, MAC Lovelorn, MAC Pink Pearl Pop, Maybelline Color Whisper in Oh Lilac, Wet & Wild Dollhouse Pink, and Urban Decay Lady Flower.
ReplyDeleteOMG these colors are perfect! Loving especially the Maybelline color! =D

I've not tried the one from Dior but I really like Maybelline Colour Exilir! Great comparison as always, Elle.

Great review! I haven't tried either of these products, so now I'll have to. :) A couple of my favorite pink lipsticks are Syrup by MAC and Pinkberry by Estee Lauder.
ReplyDeleteI've JUST heard about Syrup and I really want to buy it next time I'm back in the States!
DeleteThis looks gorgeous, I really want to try it! Hurry up student loan...

I love Revlon super lustrous pango peach. Its a peachy pink
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to starbucks lately so I haven't had a heart on any cup! boo!
ReplyDeletethe dior is definitely too expensive for me, and the maybelline doesn't sound amazing enough to warrant the $9 price tag. I know, I'm cheap, but you can buy stellar products for the same or less, why bother with something not amazing? lol. congrats on 111,111 :)
Not a huge fan of glosses so I doubt I'd splurge on the Dior one but I really like the Maybelline version. x

I don't usually wear glosses but the Maybelline one looks pretty and the price is great too.
ReplyDeleteBeautetude
I've tried a Maybelline one before. The color was super dark and it was kind of patchy but Ive wanted to try different shades. I would love to try out some dior lip products someday!!! And I'm obsessed with those hearts on the starbucks cups! It makes me ridiculously hspot! Is that just for Valentine's day?? I hope they stay that way!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I hate spending money on little things but I always find myself leaning towards the more expensive. I'm always happier in the end with a great brand like dior!

Sugar & Something
I actually love the smell of most lipsticks. But I'm the weirdo that likes the smell of gas & Sharpies :) haha
ReplyDeleteGreat review! Although I couldn't justify the $35 for it lasting just a little bit longer! I think I would have to go with the Maybelline!

Upbeat Soles
dangit lol, I was hoping you would say the cheap one :) The dior one sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe Maybelline one is a nice option. I like more of a glossy feel so I think it would work better for me.
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on the Dior lips products Maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteXo
I refuse to spend that amount of money on lipgloss. Eep!!! I would pick the Maybelline since there isn't too much of a difference.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comparison post! I love these because I am not willing to spend that much on a lip gloss or lipstick so its nice to know comparable drug store products!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could pend $35 on a lip gloss, but the Dior packaging is really nice. And I am quite impressed by you 111,111 miles!
ReplyDeleteOoooo...the Dior does sound lovely. Sigh....why $35 though.....why?!?!? :D
ReplyDeleteThese sound fun--I may give the Maybelline version a try. I need some pink in my life too--I'm missing pretty pink from my lipgloss collection!
ReplyDeleteI will probably stick to Mabeline on this one. I think about $25 is my limit for myself on glosses. I love the hearts on the Starbucks cups, it is all in the details!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pink lipstick is blue rose by NYC
ReplyDeleteI have so much to learn from you, Elle! I should try these lipsticks. My favorite right now are the Revlon Colorstay Lip Butters :) And you're too funny about the 111,111 miles :-p
ReplyDeleteWonderful comparison as always, Elle! I think I'd be tempted to go for the Maybelline option because I am an old fashion kind of girl who believes in lip glosses with stick applicators :)
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison post! I haven't tried the Dior products -- I keep meaning to play with them when I go to Sephora next...but I forget, lol :-P I have used the Maybelline one before, and did like it.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see swatches of these on your lips -- I'm always curious how lip products actually look when applied, because I feel like some glosses are so sheer, they look invisible. Just a thought :-) Love your blog!!

The Dior fluid stick sounds almost magical. We might have to splurge and give it a try. Thanks Elle!!

I have quite a few colour elixirs from Mabelline but the Dior sounds so great too!! and yay for the 111,111 mileage. I would have taken a pic of that too!!
ReplyDeleteGreat comparative! I adore the pink lip shades! T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
