3 Easy Nail Art Hacks

I strive to keep my tutorials on this blog for beginners, or as easy as possible. But when I do the occasional nail art on here, I still get comments that it looks too difficult.

But psst! I've got a few tricks up my sleeve and I'm sharing my best and easiest nail art hacks! You've GOT to try these!

via

Dental Flossers
  • Don't have a tiny nail art brush or a steady hand? Pour a little polish onto a paper plate or cardboard, and dip the flosser in. Press on nails to make lines.
  • TIP: Don't use the kid or mint versions.

Plastic Zippered Sandwich Bags

  • Some background: I started doing this one as a kid. My Grandmother used to have a locally-sold cosmetics line and I always had my nails painted with her polishes. I actually used to do this tip on my Trapper Keeper (80s kid!) but have since used the bags.
  • Get a piece of plastic or a thick plastic sandwich bag and place your nail art design underneath it. Then, use your polish to trace and fill in the design you want. Allow to dry, peel, and glue to nail. You can also apply to a freshly polished nail, but the glue holds longer.
  • See this tip in action on my Shamrock Shake Nails post.

Sharpie Markers or Paint Pens
  • Painting is hard, but doodling is easy! Use Sharpie markers or paint pens to draw your designs. While I love my colors, I adore using metallic ones too.
  • See this tip in action on my Back to School Spirit Nails and my Zodiac Nails.
Bonus Tip: Use fake nails to do nail art before applying to nails. See tip in action here with my Sprinkles Nails.

Extra Elle:
  • I got to spend time playing with my 2 nieces and 2 nephews (15 months, 4 weeks, 5 years and 6 years). It was my first time meeting my youngest niece, who will be 1 month tomorrow. Of course it was loud and chaotic, but it did my heart good!
  • Thank you for your comments on this post. I appreciate your love, prayers, and support.

  1. These are great tips! I really like the idea of using the dental flossers, the ones I use have a straighter, sharper tip then the one pictured that I think would be even better! Thanks!

  11. Loving these nail hacks!!! I have some nail tools but you are right...it is really hard to hold a steady hand when using them. I need to get my life together and get to painting more often and being a little creative with it.

  22. Ugh, I wrote out my whole comment...and something happened to it! :-(

So, as I was saying! All these hacks are really neat. You always have the smartest things up your sleeve, Elle! I've heard of that paper bag trick. I've yet to try it, though. I think I'll go get a sharpie, though, and give that one a try. I just painted my nails yesterday, so it'd be fun to decorate them with a flower or something, and not have to worry about waiting long enough to let the polish dry. :-) Thanks for some swell tips!!

  33. From the 3 suggestions, I think I could try the dental flossers one, for stripes - it seems quite good, such a good idea! And then the Sharpie pens - I thought about them once, but after all I didn't try it... I will ask my manicurist to try something with the first idea, cause I liked it a lot! The zippered bag, I don't think I would be good on that :) And nice that you met your niece! I hope you get the good vibes of your friends, I am sure everybody is sending you that!
