Whew! I feel like I was gone for ages, and I missed being here. Today, I'm keeping things light, short, and sweet, with a
This or That featuring my favorite makeup item: mascara.
My This or That series compares two similar beauty products. So exactly what am I comparing? Two new mascaras by
Benefit and Maybelline.
Benefit Roller Lash
- $24
- Sephora, ULTA, online
- "An innovative mascara with a 12-hour setting formula that hooks, lifts, and curls lashes. "
Maybelline Lash Sensational
- $8.99 (+/-)
- Drugstores, online
- "First patented fanning brush with 10 layers of bristles to reveal a full flourish of lashes. Liquid Ink formula coats from all sides for a sensational full fan effect."
|
Maybelline Lash Sensational on your left, Benefit Roller Lash on your right
This or That:
- I really, really love both mascaras and would repurchase both. Maybelline delivers a fuller look (think volume) with a much wetter mascara formula. I love the different sizes of bristles. It did flake a little--Maybelline mascaras tend to do that on me, but lasted a full day of wear.
- Benefit Roller Lash has the cutest packaging and does what it says--it lifts and curls lashes. You can see it gave me longer lashes than the Maybelline mascara. It is still a "wet" formula but not as clumpy. It gave me more length than volume and did not smudge or flake after a day's wear.
- This comes down to personal preference and budget. You can't go wrong with either.
Extra Elle:
|
- I've two amazing giveaways in the previous--seriously, go check them out.
- As for my family news I shared in previous post's video, we are taking it day by day. I am sharing this news in a guest post that I am so proud of. It's one of my most personal posts and I would appreciate it if you checked it out HERE. Thanks.

they both look great! I love the packaging on the Benefit one
ReplyDeleteI love trying out new mascaras and I'm currently using 2 so I need to stop looking at the roller lash lol.

The Benefit packaging really is the cutest but I can't really tell much of a difference between the too so I think the Maybelline is the better deal! I always love when drugstore brands aren't too much different than the expensive brands.

I love your mascara reviews, they are so helpful! xoxo

Hey, Elle, I will read the guest post for sure. Can't promise I am not going to cry. As for the mascaras, I am eager to buy the Benefit one, everybody saying it's good, and you say you would repurchase... so one more point to it. You say Maybelline delivers a fuller look, but in the picture I liked the Benefit one most... well, let's see, I can't buy it now, not offered where I am now :)

I have really gotten into drugstore mascaras again, so I will definitely be checking out the Maybelline one when it is time to repurchase. I hope you are doing well and hanging in there girl!

I am impressed by how long your lashes are with the Benefit one! Headed over to check out your guest post now!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Your lashes on the Benefit one are really TDF! Will definitely check that out, as well as your guest post, Elle:)
ReplyDeleteawesome that both are work well!! i love the lower price point option :) xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteI've never tried either mascara but I keep seeing the Maybelline one in drugstores and wondering about it - this is great!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteVery niiice, i love it ! :D
Sarah, http://sarahmodeee.blogspot.fr/
They both sound awesome! I'm especially looking forward to trying out Roller Lash. I'm kind of used to wet formulas at this post, as Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara {my personal HG} is pretty wet too. Do either of these add any volume, or just length/lift?
ReplyDeletexx
Upon first glance, I preferred the left eye... the one using Maybelline. I have to say I'm not completely sold on the Benefet mascara...for $24 I think there are better options at Sephora. Then again, mascara is such a personal thing and everyone is looking for something different. What do you think of the Benefit Roller Lash in comparison with Benefit They're Real? (I have a mini size from the Sephora Lash Stash and I really like it...one of my favorites in the box along with Lancome Hypnose Drama and Bare Minerals Buxom Mascara)
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like you get the same result from both mascaras, but I prefer the brush of the maybelline one!! Thanks for the recommendation! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI like the look of Benefit a little more. They both sound great though!

Love the comparison! The Maybelline one looks really similar, if not better on your lashes. But I personally prefer length than volume, as I've got short lashes. Tricky decision... I have Roller Lash and really like it. Might have to try the Maybelline one and see which one I prefer. I hope both brands bring out a waterproof version as I feel they hold my curl a lot better. x

Thanks for the review. It's great to know that there is another option out there that is similar and cost less then the Benefit option.
ReplyDeleteI have the Maybelline mascara and just don't care for it. To me, it's too wet of a formula that clumps easily. Maybe when the tube dries out a bit more it will better suit my preferences. Both mascaras did wonders on your lashes, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat reviews. I love Benefit mascara, but have not tried this one. I recently bought a Clinique mascara that's pretty good. :)
ReplyDeleteFebruary Moments
So, is it bad that I might be willing to spend the extra $$ for the prettier package? yes? no? UGH, haha. Big question, how easily do they both come off?
ReplyDeleteBoth seems to be a really good mascara, Elle...I'll pick up Maybelline's first and later will give Benefit a try.
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity
I've looked at these both, and I heard that the CG bloom mascara is a good dupe for the new benefits mascara. I have a package of the bloom mascara and can't wait to try that out.

These look great! I like the maybelline.
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ meandmr.com
I've been seeing the Roller Lash and curious, may have to try it out now..
ReplyDeleteBoth look pretty on you. You have such pretty eyes. But I do think I see a difference with the Roller Lash. Maybe I'll give in and try it. What a beautiful and honest post on Melissa's blog. Thank you for being so honest and sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a huge Maybelline mascara fan. Mostly because I get really annoyed with their continuous release of the exact same mascaras in "cute" packaging. They are a very gimmicky company when it comes to mascara. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan over several of their other products. It's nice to know this one is actually good quality. Stay strong Elle! xo.
ReplyDeleteLet's just talk about how much we're in love with the packaging of the Benefit roller lash for a second. That cap is so luxe, and we're so in love. Would totally just buy it to look pretty lol
ReplyDeletexx 365Hangers
I love the Maybelline one. I found the formula to thicken up after a week or two. The benefit one sounds great too but I cringe at spending that much on mascara lol!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either so I would go with Maybelline, since it's a tried and true brand for me.
ReplyDeleteThey both make your lashes look long and full. I would purchase either one too. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteBoth look great and I haven't tried either so I have to change that asap!
ReplyDeleteLooking quickly I probably wouldn't even notice you have two different mascaras on. But I an definitely see the differences when you point them out.
ReplyDeleteOK - a new Maybelline mascara I have to try now.
ReplyDeleteI love that you turn me onto the right track for my products :)
I'm in need of a new mascara and I think I'll have to try that Maybelline one. The benefit sounds great, but my budget says no :)
ReplyDeleteI'll head over to check out your guest post too!
I love Maybelline mascara and would love to try this one!!
ReplyDeleteThese both sound great! I love Maybelline mascara. I'm heading over now to read your guest post.
ReplyDeletemascara is my fave too - and maybelline definitely flakes on me :( i want to try it, but you know that curved brush with and how it's different sizes and whatnot? i always mess up with those, i can never get both eyes to look the same, lol. but maybe i'll try it anyway (singing maybe it's maybelline...) anywho. off to read your guest post xx
ReplyDeleteI have incredibly long eyelashes, but they aren't super thick. I am always looking for a mascara that gives me more volume!
ReplyDeleteI would go for the Benefit. Clumping is a major pet peeve of mine. Plus such gorgeous packaging.

Oh I love mascara's and have been wanting to try something new, since I'm more of a drugstore kind of girl I'll have to try this new maybelline one.

I love Benefit Roller Lash, but the both of them really look great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried these mascaras, but I do like the sound of the one from Maybelline :)
ReplyDeleteYou always have the best reviews and I'm obsessed with mascara so I want to try both of them!

Oh Elle, I just read the guest post and I'm so sorry for what you're going through. You and your family will be in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI have both of these mascaras. I kind of wish I got the waterproof of the Maybelline one b/c it seems a bit wet to me. It just uncurls my lashes almost right away. So far the Benefit one is just ok on my lashes. I need to really play with them both though. I haven't really taken my time to apply either one. It's always before work when I'm always rushed.
I've never tried Maybelline Sensational Lash, but I just purchased Benefit's Roller Ball mascara the other day. I've used it a few times, and have LOVED the results. I do find that if I don't do even, light layers, this can start to get clumpy. But if I'm careful, it gives my lashes the most length and curl :-) Thanks for the comparison!!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I love these posts. Mascara is probably the thing I buy the most when it comes to makeup. I'll have to try the maybelline one!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that the maybelline one looks as good and even slightly fuller than the more expensive one...I'm a drugstore mascara wearer myself (Loreal) and stick to it because I've tried a ton of others and this one always impresses!
ReplyDeleteBoth of these give great results, but I really liked the right lashes(Roller Lash) the best. Oh, there's another high end mascara on my list!
ReplyDeleteNice ! I just bought the roller lash and it came in the mail today! Can't wait to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of the Maybelline one. I actually prefer a wetter formula as its easier for me to apply. Sometimes drugstore just works!
ReplyDeletethis is such a neat idea -- side-by-side comparison.. they look pretty similar!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Roller Lash mascara! Benefit has been really impressing me since They're Real. I also just picked up that LashSensational mascara after reading several positive reviews. Hopefully I get the same awesome results!
