Hey you! I admit, a new mascara at the drugstore is a weakness of mine. Gotta
catch 'em try 'em all! Even if I'm wearing just a tinted moisturizer, I will always have on some mascara. I saw a new one from
Wet N Wild last month and had to get it. I am a huge fan of the super affordable brand. It instantly reminded me of one released last year by
Maybelline. I put them both to the test for this week's T
his or That.
Wet N Wild MegaPlump Double Menace Mascara
- $5, but it is hard to find (try drugstores and Walmart)
- One wand for upper and one wand for lower lashes
- Up to 5x fuller-looking
- I could only find it in black and not in waterproof form.
- This is a drier mascara that delivers on not clumping. My lashes were defined. I preferred the lower lash wand and didn't care for the formula.

Comparison of mascara wands for mascaras.
Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara
- $6.94-$7 drugstores and mass retail chain stores
- Comes in 3 shades as well as waterproof and other formulas (I only like the original formula)
- One wand is for upper (and it's purple before you use it) and one for lower lashes
- Instantly makes eyes 2x bigger
- Wetter formula that could be prone to clumping but delivers in length.
on your left is Wet N Wild--on your right is Maybelline.
one coat each with no eyelash curler
This or That:
- I don't have oily skin, so I have had no problems with smudging for either mascara. The picture above was taken at 10pm, after 13 hours of wear.
- I personally prefer the Maybelline Big Eyes. I tend to want noticeable lashes, but I do like the wands on the Wet N Wild mascara. Wet N Wild has had some misses lately with me in the mascara department, so it was try to have one that I liked. If you're into more natural-looking lashes, try Wet N Wild. If you want longer lashes, try Maybelline Big Eyes.
Extra Elle:
- I just started watching Bloodline on Netflix. I liked the first ep. I'm also watching Dancing With the Stars. I love that show and even took ballroom dancing lessons a couple of years ago.

Based on the pics I'd go with Maybelline
ReplyDeleteplus I know its cheaper and I tend
to throw/change my mascara like every two months.

I always love maybelinne mascaras and I like mine noticeable as well.

I've never tried either but you can definitely tell a big difference between the two when side by side for sure.

I'm such a maybelline fan, I think I'd choose them for that alone!!! Who doesn't want big lashes!!?? LOL xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI am a mascara snob. It's my #1 go to in makeup. I feel naked without it! I like to mix wands up if I like one product better and the wand of another I just change them out. I am impressed on how well the Mabeline stayed so well after so many hours.

I am struggling with so many mascara issues right now, so thank you for your review! I might have to try that maybelline formula!!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about bigger lashes, too! The Maybelline one definitely delivers on that!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Maybelline. I'll have to check that Bloodline out.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried either of these mascara's but I think I'd like the Maybelline. I always wanted to take ballroom dancing lessons and love watching Dancing with the Stars too!
ReplyDeleteJill
Doused In Pink
I definitely prefer the results of the Maybelline!
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of ballroom dancing lessons? I do Cardio Ballroom {a video by Julianne Hough} and read Ballroom Dancing mysteries - I guess I'm slightly obsessed! :P
xx
Maybelline looks better to me, too. I love that extra bit of length and volume. x
ReplyDeleteGirl, you have the prettiest eyes! I don't branch out much on my makeup so I didn't even know they had one with two different wands. I'll definitely be checking that out the Maybelline next time I need mascara!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of noticeable lashes, too. I mean, what's the point of mascara if it doesn't extend or make them darker? I'd probably pick the maybelline up but skip the wet and wild.
ReplyDeleteI think I tried the Maybelline mascara a while ago, but I'm not sure why I stopped. I'll have to pick up another tube based on how your lashes look! Great review.
ReplyDeleteI've been mulling over starting Bloodlines. Hm. You'll have to keep us updated if it's good or not. I tend to shy away from these double ended mascaras. Too much work for me I guess. (; I LOVE LOVE L'Oreal's Miss Manga. Truly the best drugstore mascara I've ever had.
ReplyDeleteLove that I has a lower lash wand! Looks like Maybelline wins hands-down!

The Maybelline definitely takes this one! I never use mascara on my lower lashes but really should do it!

That Maybelline one is one of my favorites. I use both wands on my upper lashes and it gives me crazy length and volume. I'm a sucker for trying new mascaras too
ReplyDeleteI like the Maybelline one better! Your lashes just look so much fuller!
ReplyDeleteMascara is part of my bare minimal makeup essentials too. I really like the effect of the Maybelline one on your lashes.
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
always enjoy you this or that series. I have turn it to a mascara junky as well.

The Wet N Wild might be the one I'd try first just coz it's cheaper:D
ReplyDeleteI normally always prefer maybelline over wet N Wild-- I just feel like Wet N Wild is a little cheap.
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ meandmr.com
I'm so glad you posted this! I was going to run out today and grab a new mascara since I ran out! I am totally going to try the Maybelline one!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Maybelline results, unfortunately this mascara didn't arrive here yet! Amazing review, Elle. I hope you're okay! =)

I didn't even know Wet & Wild had mascara!!
ReplyDeleteThat Maybelline looks fantastic!!!
I'm always in the market for a new mascara- I need to pick this Maybelline version up! Great review, Elle!

I wud love to try Maybelline luckily its available here too :D
ReplyDeleteI agree, the maybelline one gives your lashes more fullness and drama!
ReplyDeleteI've heard Wet & Wild mascaras were problematic, but I didn't know how much. Yeah I am with you on this review.

I'm a huge fan of your This or That series, Elle and I think I'll be giving both a miss. I don't think either will work with my lashes.
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity
I generally LOVE Wet n Wild makeup, but I have never liked their mascaras. I don't even consider buying them at this point, but I still buy a lot of other stuff from them. I like the Maybelline on your lashes!

Neon Rattail
You can certainly see a difference in the pictures, I like the Maybelline one! I haven't really found many Wet n Wild products that I like past their nail polish. Maybe I haven't given enough of them a fair try.
ReplyDeleteOh I definitely like the maybelline one. I'm with Nadine - I've had a hard time with wet n wild!
ReplyDeleteoh Elle, you know how to get me. Drugstore mascaras are my fave!! I haven't tried either of these, I might have to pick them both up as they are so cheap but I like the sound and look (in the picture) of the maybelline better! I don't think I've ever tried wet n wild mascara though, so i'm curious!
ReplyDeleteMascara is a must for me too, even if the rest of my face is pretty bare. I love trying new ones...always on the hunt for the perfect mascara. I love Maybelline's mascaras, so I'll have to try Big Eyes!
ReplyDeletePretty pretty eyes! Yeah I think I like the Maybelline one too. I haven't used a double want mascara in so long.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast at Gracey's
Love the first one. *__*
ReplyDeleteLovely greets Ness
Based on the picture, I'd go with Maybelline, too!
ReplyDeleteThat Maybelline didn't work so great on my lashes, BUT it looks fantastic on you! I just had issues with my oily skin I think!
ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer the Maybelline mascara over the Wet n Wild one! Gives you more length and definition.
ReplyDeleteI've never been into natural-looking lashes -- big and bold, all the way! :-)
I was hooked on Maybelline for years and years; the proof is in the photo!
ReplyDeleteMaybelline Big Eyes sounds great! I took ballroom dance lessons a few years ago before my wedding. It was a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteI would go with the Maybelline for the length, and I like the brand. I took ballroom classes awhile back too, so fun! Bloodline is on my list to check out once I finish The Fall.
ReplyDeleteI like the maybelline look on your eyes better. I have never heard of the other one at all.
ReplyDeletePs Ive heard of Bloodline and may watch an ep to see if its really as good as everyone says!
I love WnW products, but I have never really liked any of their mascaras. I do like the WnW wand though. The Maybelline mascara separates and lengthens the lashes better than the WnW mascara. I haven't tried this mascara yet, but it looks to be a pretty good drugstore mascara. How fun it must have been to have taken ballroom dance lessons. I must watch the show Bloodline on Netflix. I hear it's a pretty great show.
ReplyDeleteThere is a very noticeable difference between the two. Maybelline lengthens a whole lot more than the W&W. I tend to not like wetter formulas, although I do love Maybelline's Full 'n Soft which is on the wetter side. It does dry out a little after about a month of daily use and I think that's when it's at its best!
ReplyDeletei really like maybelline's falsies!
ReplyDeleteGreat review, Elle! I have the Maybelline one and I like it! I usually use the falsies one, but tried the big eyes one this time around. I love seeing your opinions on the products I use!
