So I had a hard week this week emotionally, and felt it was time to do another 5 Things That Make Me Happy.
Me, my Daddy, and my sister a few years ago. I found this pic in his room. |
As of this week, it's been 1 month since my dad passed away. I know you're thinking, well how is that something that's happy? You're right, but what made me happy was making the decision to be vulnerable and share with you what that past month has been like. I'm a private person and so many think of grief as a private thing. I wanted to show that you aren't alone. Your words, support, and kindness on this post mean the world to me. I'm finding peace with the fact that he is no longer in pain and is in Heaven. And this pic cracks me up because he was never dressed up (this was at Christmas). He was a Hawaiian shirt kinda guy--he lived in FL for many years and loved the water. On his birthday next month, there will be a post on him.
Charlie turned 5! Would you LOOK AT THIS FACE? Hold on, I need to go hug him after seeing this pic. People who don't like dogs or animals fall in love with him. Even other dogs--he gets them to play. I've had so many dog owners tear up saying they haven't seen their dog play like that in years, but Charlie brings out the pup in them, or that their dog doesn't like other dogs but loves Charlie. He's my boy!
This combo: It's spring, so I was feeling pink nude lips (Royal Ball by Cinderella for Mac) and one of my all-time faves Bikini so Teenie by Essie. This bottle is the old packaging--I hope they still make this!
My DIY Crayon Ombre Candle--I've made so many of these lately, but the pink ones are my fave. See the tutorial here.
I got my brows done! |
So what made you happy this week?

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Charlie!! I can't get over that picture. You know, I've never used Bikini so Teeney and I always like it on others--I'm going to have to check it out. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love that picture of you, your dad, and your sister! You can see the pride and happiness in his eyes for you two! Happy Birthday charlie!! Have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteYour dad was so handsome Elle ! And I am sure he was quite proud of you. I am glad you are finding things that make you happy. Your brows look fabulous too!! My daughter is in full swing dance competition mode - watching her dance makes me so happy. And my dog is finally recovering from two terrible surgeries. There is always something to be thankful for(: Susan
ReplyDeleteThat was a very beautiful picture of you and your dad, and I think you should put it in a place you can see it, like sending a kiss and good thoughts when you see it! He had really very kind eyes, I am sure he was amazing, but he lives through his kids - I know it sounds cliche, but it's true, life doesn't vanish! As I said, I am sorry I couldn't read the post, because I knew it would shake me in a way that I fought so much to achieve the point I am now... it's 4 years and I still can't see his pics in a nice way. It hurts me so much. Anyway, I love the blue nail polish, I have worn one for the first time last week! I love Charlie, too, be very sure of it - he is definitely lovely and I bet he is a high spirit, making the other dogs willing to play with him! I never heard of that, so sweet!

That picture of Charlie though...I die! He is just precious! Also pertinent...I must check out sugaring - I want to get my brows done, but the whole idea of regular waxing freaks me out {my pain tolerance is literally in negative digits}.

I'm really glad that opening up has helped your healing process in mourning the loss of your dad. That photo of you three is precious. Happy 5th birthday to Mr. Charlie :)

That pic of Charlie is so cute! What a great dog! I'm so proud of you for sharing your life with us lately. I'm a private person too, so I definitely know how hard that is. I admire you for that.
ReplyDeleteThere's something oh so beautiful about being able to open up and talk about your feelings with total strangers. I think being vulnerable in these sort of cases plays in your favor. Please stay strong and continue to inspire. (: Have a lovely weekend Elle.
ReplyDeleteoh, and p.s. Essie does still make Bikini so Teenie, but Sally Hansen has a VERY close dupe called Sugar Fix. It's part of their gel manicure line and is the most gorgeous periwinkle shade. (;
Just look at Charlie... so damn cute I tell ya. Definitely made me smile. And I just love the photo of you and your dad. And as my grandmother would say, it's okay to be vulnerable, as long as its to the right people. They have to earn the right to know you. Beautiful post.

ReplyDeleteAhh - your dad... such a handsome guy!!! I can't wait to see the post you do about him. I love that he was a Hawaiian shirt kinda guy too :)
That is such a wonderful picture of you, your sister and dad. I'm glad you have happy memories of him, and that you are glad you opened up to share your loss with others. Happy birthday to sweet Charlie! I've never heard of brow sugaring, but would love to give it a try. I get my brows threaded, and although it's quick, I always find it to be painful.
ReplyDeleteFocusing on the positive is important while you work through the negative.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Charlie!
Charlie would make any day better, extra play time is in order. Focusing on the happy is so important especially in those harder times! Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Charlie! That picture of you your sister and your dad is so lovely. <3
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Charlie!!! What a wonderful picture of you, your sister and dad (:

Your puppy is so cute! I love coming home to my dog because no matter what kind of day I've had, as soon as I see him, everything is OK in the world. I literally don't know how people live without a dog. Also, I'm super jealous you scored that lipstick. I tried to get something from the Cinderella collection the morning after it launched and everything was sold out. I was so sad. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love this new series, such a great reminder to focus on the things that are making me happy. Love that pic of your dad and your sweet pup too! Right now I'm happy that it's Friday and that the sun is shining! Have a great weekend Elle :)
ReplyDeleteLoss is so hard. I'm so sorry, glad you have this picture and good memories!! Happy Friday girl (beautiful pic too)
ReplyDeleteLovely post!! That pic is amazing, he looks like such a fun man. And of course your pup is adorable! This week I've been having a bit of anxiety about things so I have challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone and that has made me happy!
ReplyDeleteFirst I couldn't believe it's been a whole month... Then my heart just stopped when I saw Charlie's little face and THOSE EYES... Oh, boys... I had to hug my little boy immediately. :) (Only dog people will understand I guess). Happy birthday, Charlie! And wishing you and your mummy Elle a wonderful weekend! x
ReplyDeleteThat picture of Charlie is so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to hug on him :) You reminded me that I need to check out that Mac collection, and love that last picture of you. You look gorgeous! The Sweet Peach sounds awesome. I hope you have a great weekend.

what a cute dog :) :)
ReplyDeleteIt's healthy to share our grief and be reminded that we have friends who love us. You certainly do. Your doggy looks so cute right now. Thanks for telling me about sugaring; I've never even heard the word used that way before.
ReplyDeleteCharlie's face....OMG he is the cutest. He would melt me in two seconds. Literally, every time I look at my dogs I say to my husband "aww, they're so cute" and then they get whatever they want. They basically own me and my husband haha
ReplyDeleteI'm a crazy dog mom, and I'm okay with that.
Also, your eyebrows look amazing! I'd never heard of "sugaring" until you mentioned it just now! Sounds pretty cool!
Hope you have a lovely weekend :-)
Charlie is so adorable :)
ReplyDeleteNever heard of eyebrow sugaring - interesting!!
Can't believe it's been a month - you are so strong Elle! Love that picture.
The picture of you with your Daddy is precious.
ReplyDeleteCharlie's face is ALSO precious! I want to squeeze his little face!
Thank you for sharing all of your emotions and your daddy! Happy Birthday to your doggie. What made me happy this week was getting a babysitter to watch my two little monsters and taking my husband on a date:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that wonderful picture of you and your father. Grief is personal and private but sometimes sharing makes the pain just a teeny bit easier. We are all here for you lady!
ReplyDeleteThat picture of you and your dad is precious! I love it!! Im here for you if you need me. (Still loving the DIY candle - its so cute!)
ReplyDeleteThat picture of Charlie is so cute! Happy Birthday Charlie! I've never heard of sugaring before..that is interesting.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read more about your dad :) And Charlie...how could that sweet little face not make you happy?! I've never heard of sugaring before but it sounds neat! I wish we had more places like that in SC!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just have to let you know, I tried curling my hair like you did, going in different directions, and it works perfectly! I've struggled to find a way that doesn't look too put together and this it! So glad you shared it!
