I love natural makeup in the spring--a change from my dark lips and intense eyes from winter. And a natural-looking blush is an easy way to do that. Today I'm sharing a few of my favorite blushes (different finishes and different price points) for spring. I call it Barely Blushed --check out the video below:
- Benetint by Benefit--Dot a few drops of liquid onto cheeks and rub in.
- Tarte Flush--A solid version of a cheek tint--apply with fingers, sponge, directly, or with a stippling brush
Next up are STICK BLUSHES--these are creamy in texture, making for an easy blend and are best for those with dry skin. These remind me of one of the first beauty tips my Grandmother told me--use lipstick on your cheeks as blush. These are an updated, better version of that tip!
- Maybelline Masterglaze Just Pinched Pink--The name says it all
- Flower Beauty (get it at Walmart) in Apricot-a-lot--A soft apricot that can be applied to lips as well.
- NYX Stick Blush in Tea Rose--An option for those with light-medium skin tones
CREAM BLUSHES are great for dry skin and are best applied with a stippling brush (try one from ELF for $3)
- Sonia Kashuk Rose'--Soft peach with a nice powder finish
- NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Glow--This has a dewy finish but gives a glow from within. Very natural and pretty.
When you think of blushes, POWDER blushes are what comes to mind. Let's start with the back row:
- The Balm in Downboy--A pretty cool-toned pink
- Tarte in Exposed--This looks brown in the pan, but it isn't at all, and is one of my favorite blushes to apply
- NYX Nude 'Tude--A natural option for light-medium skin tones, for those who don't want a pink or peach...and a nice contour option for lighter skin
- Jordana Touch of Pink --Pretty soft pinky-peach
- Milani Flora--The prettiest packaging
- MAC Peaches--A very light peach, similar to the Jordana one, but with less pink.
Swatches! To see them blended out and swatched on skin, please watch the video here.
Extra Elle:
- I feel like I haven't talked to you in ages! Thanks everyone for your support this weekend. You mean the world. More info here.
- Happy birthday to my brother, Aaron. You are a wonderful father and Daddy was so proud of you. Love you!
Wow, that's a lot of blushes and trials. You deserve a medal for it. x
ReplyDeleteI always go for MAC blushes, they are pigmented enough for my skintone. So exciting to go on vacay, happy for ya.

The beach sounds wonderful!! You deserve an extra special vacation to just get away and try to relax! Every single one of those blushes are right up my alley! I'm a sucker for soft blushes. It's rare I get one I don't like. I'm going to have to give that Flower Beauty one a try. I haven't tried any of their blushes yet!
ReplyDeleteThat Flower Beauty and NYX Glow are SO pretty! I need to try them out this summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all these amazing blushes. I am a huge fan of cream blushes. Beautiful hues!

So many blushes i want to try! I usually stick with the standard powder, but have always wanted to try other types. I only recently learned how to really apply blush, which is crazy. But I'm loving it.
ReplyDeleteYES! NYX Cream Blush is my favorite - I actually just recommended it to my sister yesterday!

Love this vid, Elle:) Next to foundation, blush is my fave makeup item. I've used both the Benetint and the Tarte ones, but Benetint has to be my fave. And OMG! Must try that NYX one. I do love the MAC ones, but the NYX price is better:D
ReplyDeleteBlush is one of those makeup products that leave me clueless. I have Benetint and still love it, but haven't tried enough cream or powder ones. Thanks for the suggestions!

I need to come back and watch that video when I have more time. I would like to see the sticks blended out on the skin particularly the Flower brand one. I hope things start looking up for you. Have a great trip!

I'm definitely a Tarte and Bobbi brown blush girl - love how pigmented they are! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of milani products, I love their eye shadows and blushes. I'm interested in the stick blushes, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the Tarte cheek tint!! I want to check out milani blush next though!

I'm not a huge blush person. I have a very pink undertone that I use to create a natural flushed look without adding one more product. I purchased Bene tint and loved it on my lips, but it looked very "fake" on my cheeks. Plus the bottle went bad after just a few months. I was bummed because it's "high end." I love Tarte's Exposed. I use it to contour rather than as a blush, it's so lovely against my pale skin.
ReplyDeleteI need a more natural blush for summer! So many products! I've used Tarte cheek tint in blushing bride in the past but I really like that flush color! Have a great vacation!

I'm glad you dug this out of your pile of drafts! Five years there is long enough! This was a really informative video. I had no idea there was such a thing as liquid blush.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge lover of Tarte and Benefit! Sorry you had a rough weekend *hugs*, hoping you have a fabulous vacay next week ;-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE how you described the NYX cream blush in your video. Like a glow from within. It makes me want to try it! I also really love cheek tints. Ive actually never seen a solid version. I will have to check that one out, too!
ReplyDeleteSo many I'd love to try. I wish we could get NYX and Milani easily in the UK. I love the look of their blushes and they are super affordable. x

Happy birthday to your bother, too! I hope you feel better soon, and I am sure that the sea will help It helps me. Perhaps this is why I am not feeling great today either - I am longing to go to the sea and it was mother's day last Sunday in some parts of the world. Please enjoy it a lot, it will be great! Now, the blushes - I have Benetint and I normally apply it on lips... I will try on cheeks too. I would love to have the Flower Beauty Apricot, because of the same reason then, lips and cheeks. And the Miani Flora because of the packaging - but the color looks great as well. I stopped wearing blush for some weeks, but it's just a phase, so I loved knowing some brands and new products here! Please, take your time and just concentrate on your soul, relaxing and listening to yourself. It's important :)

happy birthday to your brother! hope you are feeling better soon and i hope the beach vacation is just what you need!
ReplyDeletei have been using a NARS blush for about a year (i rarely use it, oops) but i would love to try the cheaper ones you mentioned - specifically the milani floral one, so pretty! prettiest packaging, like you said! i haven't seen them at any of my stores though, gotta keep searching!
OK so I will be watching this video over and over. I have never used a stick or cream blush. I really would love to try one. I love that dewy look ! But I have no clue how to apply it. Can you give me some tips please? Thanks!! I think I like the Flower blush unless you think something would work better for me(: Susan
ReplyDeleteThose stick blushes are super cute :)
ReplyDeleteI have Tea Rose in NYX powder blush but never tried the stick one though. Definitely something that I will pick up soon.
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity

I am interested in trying the Nyx stick blush in Tea Rose. I prefer powders but this interests me! Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteThe Balm and Milani colors look like they would go best with my skin tone.
ReplyDeleteBlush is my favorite beauty product, so I love this! I've never tried a stick blush, but am considering it, since my skin has become drier over the past year. I'm sorry you're not feeling well after going through such an emotional experience over the weekend. I'm sending warm thoughts and a big hug.
ReplyDeleteI barely can make it with powder blush... I can see me using stick or cream blush... can you say "CLOWN"? :) haha
ReplyDeleteYes, a beach vacation cures all mood funks!! What a great post! I love all of those different shades. I have a blush stick, too, and it's great! I should use it more often than I do.

My favorite blush is the Milani Baked Dolce Pink. It looks awesome on my fair skin :) I want to grab one of the flora ones next time I am at CVS to mix it up!!! I also added the NYX one to my list too because that looks fun for a non powder!

I loved this post! Blush is one of my favorite makeup products so this was right up my alley! One of my favorite kind of barely there blushes is MAC's Melba... I'm obsessed with it!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I've always used powder blushes. I'm intrigued to try one of those cream or stick blushes. Sometimes it seems like my blush "disappears" throughout the day.

I can't wait to watch the video on Sunday morning (with my java)! I have always used powder blushes, but look forward to hearing about the other alternatives you've shared. T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI love Benetint! It gives the best flush :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you have little stories behind the blushes like the coolaid one when you were so young. I don't own to many blushes because they hard for me because I have darker skin color that I've bought a few and they didn't show on my skin. But I think I just need to try darker color blushes.

I'm with you girl! Come spring time, my makeup becomes more soft and minimal and I'm all about tinted moisturizers, soft and moisturizing lips, bronzes and a quick eye routine that's water(summertime sweat) proof. My go to cheek is actually a YSL lip & cheek combo in a soft pink.
ReplyDeletethe video was fantastic! I definitely need to get me a good blush. What would you recommend for me? Medium tone skin with pink undertones and green eyes.

ReplyDeleteIt's been so long since I've had time to spend in blog world and I've missed your videos so much! Today is a rare, warm, sunny spring afternoon in Seattle so a little blush inspiration is exactly what I needed. :-)
ReplyDeleteI do have a question (and sorry if you've already done it and I missed it) but I'm dying to know what you think of the whole Kylie Jenner "over-lining your lips" to make them seem more full trend (I know she has fillers, but I think it can also be done with liner). I'd love to hear your thoughts and/or see a video on that.
Hope you're well, Elle!
