Yesterday was Mother's Day, and I was so happy to be home to celebrate with two of the most important women in my life, my Mama and my Grandmother. Their influences on me have left such a lasting effect that turned me into the person I am. From them I learned so many things, a post that would be pages and pages long. But today I wanted to share a couple of their best beauty secrets.
"Wash your face. Every day."
My Mama is one of the few people who looks just as gorgeous with makeup as without. I can always remember her telling us to wash our faces when we were little and I remember using Dove soap. When I went home this weekend, there was a bar of Dove, just like always. Washing your face gives you a fresh canvas, so to speak, before applying makeup or skincare. She always encouraged my interest in beauty by letting me play in her makeup. She is still one of the prettiest ladies ever, inside and out!
From my Grandmother:
"Always take off your makeup."
If there's one beauty step, one piece of advice I follow to a T, it's this. You brush your teeth every night before bed, right? Make it a point to wash away that makeup too! It doesn't take a lot of time. Your skin will thank you.
"Sleep on your back."
My Grandmother is 76 years young, having just retired from her salon after 45 years. She even had her own makeup line she sold locally in the 1980s. She noticed over the years in her customers the wrinkles, for example on the certain areas of the face or décolletage, and one day it hit her--those with wrinkles in those places slept on their sides. From her I have learned and developed an interest in all things beauty (since I was 3), and it's no surprise I became a beauty blogger. As you can see in the pic above (taken later last year), she looks gorgeous, and no she has had no plastic surgery, so I'll have whatever she's having!
Dove Beauty is encouraging you to stop by the Discover More In Store Facebook Page , watch a video from Dove and participate by commenting on that post with your family beauty secrets AND your love for shopping at Publix. And to further encourage you, some commenters might even see their great family advice being shared by the Discover More In Store Facebook page!

This is such a sweet post! I couldn't agree more with both of them - I always, always, always wash my face and take my makeup off before bed. Even if I have to do it while I'm half asleep, it gets done! I just can't sleep otherwise.

Your mom and grandmother are both gorgeous women, and I can see you in both of them, especially your grandmother! And wow, I hope to look that good when I'm her age. I've always been a back sleeper, so I'm pretty excited to hear that it may help with wrinkle prevention, woohoo!
ReplyDeleteI've heard the sleep on your back bit, and I swear I try, but somehow I wake face in my pillow. (; I've heard silk pillow cases help with wrinkles. (; Both your mom and grandma are so beautiful. I hope I look that good at 76!
ReplyDeleteI love those wipes because I do get bad about taking my make up off every day #lazy
ReplyDeleteI can remember my grandmothers swearing by Ivory soap :) Old School wisdom
I agree with these tips 100%. It is VERY RARE for me to not take off my makeup and wash my face every single night!
ReplyDeleteWow, she really looks gorgeous! I like beauty secrets and I got some as well, that are really nice! I am happy that you could celebrate mother's day with your family! There was a time I didn't mind sleeping wearing makeup, because I only wore glosses and mascara, but that is past :) Now you and your family are right - removing it is a must!

My husband thinks it's funny that I am already giving my daughter skincare advice. But I think you're never to young to start!
ReplyDeleteThey are both beautiful and obviously take care of their skin! Great tips. i am bad about taking off my makeup at night but I need to make it a habit!

My grandma was the makeup queen, she never went anywhere without her lipstick, got her hair done every week, and her nails done every 2 weeks. Even in her last few days, she still put her lipstick on. I get told I'm like her all the time and it's such a compliment.
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome your grandmother had her own makeup line! So cool!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree with washing your face and removing makeup everyday! I wish I would have done those in the teenage years.
Aw...what a sweet post with lots of great tips!! Love it! Glam Karen
ReplyDeleteYour grandmother looks amazing!!! I really wish I could sleep on my back. I try, but I always end up on my side or stomach. I agree with them though...always taking your make up off and washing your face is so important! No matter how tired I am at night, the make up must come off!
ReplyDeleteyour mom and grandma are beautiful. I always wash my face at night and in the morning. Sadly I sleep on my side.

Your mother and grandmother are stunning! They gave you great advice, too.
ReplyDeleteI used to wash my face religiously... now, in the past year or so, I've noticed it actually behaves better when I don't! I think I was being too aggressive, lol
ReplyDeleteI love Dove products. It's what I've always used to wash my face. Great advice from your mom and grandma.

I come from a long line of women blessed with good skin, but a good portion of our "good skin" is actually good habits. Never go to sleep in your makeup being #1! My mother and grandmother never looked their age and they both sunbathed (the horrors!). I hope my life long use of sunscreen will help me age even more gracefully but tips and tricks like these always help. :-)
ReplyDeletehaha, I've never thought about the sleeping on your back advice your grandma gave. Crazy! I guess that would add to wrinkles on the face!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great post. What a great line of strong pretty adies!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky - everyone in your family look amazing! I agree with the advice from both your mum and grandma (find it difficult to call her grandma, though... too beautiful...), but honestly, it's so difficult for me to sleep on my back... x
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful ladies!!! I actually recently heard about that sleeping on your back thing to prevent wrinkles! I normally fall asleep on my side, but sleep on my back throughout the night.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what beauty secrets we will pass on to the next generation!
This is such a wonderful post.. The best tips can only be learnt from mom's and grandmom's
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness - i sleep on my side and stomach (and back). eep!!
ReplyDeleteyour mother and grandmother are beautiful :) they sound like lovely women as well!
Your mother and your grandmother look absolutely beautiful. And so will you girl ;). It's in the genes as my grandmother would say. I hope you celebrated them last week. Wonderful post.

ReplyDeleteAll good tips!! Sadly I'm a side sleeper but your grandmother looks so amazing I need to change my habits!
ReplyDeleteThat's some very sound advice from these two lovely ladies. I really need to get more used to sleeping on my back.
ReplyDeleteSleeping on your back to avoid wrinkles really is genius!
ReplyDeleteYour mother and grandmother are so beautiful! As a girl, my mother gave me the same advice as yours has given. :) If I can, I need to try sleeping on my back! T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteGorgeous ladies! Happy belated mother's day to both! I guess the best beauty lesson I got from my mom and nonna is to eat lots of fruits and veggies. It wasn't a real lesson, it was the way they did. I swear on the long term it shows on the skin!
ReplyDeleteAw! What a sweet post! You've got a beautiful mom and grandmother! These ladies definitely know what they're doing. And it's so cute that you became a blogger! With this background, it's no wonder! All of your DIY's make even more sense after growing up in such a conducive beauty environment! Cheers to Mama and Grandmother!
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely and sweet post! your mother and grandmother are gorgeous ladies! Glamour-Zine.com
