Have you tried either of these?
YSL on your left, NYX on your right |
Info:
Gold flecks in products are nothing new--I reviewed similar products here a few years ago from an Asian makeup brand. This gold gimmick is supposed to deliver the effect of radiance in skin. It makes for pretty packaging and a fun beauty trend.

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer
- $52, 1 oz
- Sephora, online, and fine dept. stores
- They Say:
- An illuminating primer that blurs imperfections and boosts the radiance of foundation.
- I Say:
- Thanks to silicone and various oils, this transforms skin into a smooth, silky canvas for makeup. Silicone makes me break out if used often. I didn't like the gold shimmer on my skin as it just sat there--every time I wore it, I got Twilight glitter jokes, asked if I knew there was gold on my face, etc.
- $17
- Ulta, Target, online (linked above)
- They Say:
- Inspired by honey’s golden glow we developed a primer that neutralizes the appearance of discoloration and redness.
- I Say:
- The gold flecks are few and disappear. This has a goopy gel-like consistency that I feel oily skin would prefer.
This or That: While both products worked, and are more different than they appear, I wouldn't repurchase either. I think they are too pricey for their markets and have other primers I prefer.
But before you go, I've got a fun giveaway today! I'm linking up with MakingMrsM and we're giving away a Lorac Pro-to-Go palette and a Real Techniques Eye Brush Kit. Lorac makes some of my fave shadows--I love the buttery formula. And Real Techniques makes quality brushes. Good luck!

I agree that the YSL primer is pricey, but for me personally I'd purchase because I know I'd use it for special occasions and things like that! It made my makeup look flawless and I really liked that! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThe YSL is definitely pricey but I love it! I don't use it every day, but when I do it makes my skin feel and look flawless. I couldn't see the gold flecks in it after it was on my skin but maybe it was just me.

I haven't tried either of these. The YSL sounds amazing but I don't think I would like the gold specs on my skin. Thanks for sharing your review and the giveaway!

Doused In Pink
They are really pricey! Nice giveaway♥♥

Love this review, Elle! I have been wondering about the YSL primer, but didn't want to pay the price. Good to know you wouldn't repurchase either! Happy Thursday!

Your twilight comment cracked me up! Great review, I've been debating on whether or not to pull the trigger on the ysl. But may test drive the nyx first to see if I even like it. Love Xoxo,

Peaches In A Podyour reviews!
At first I thought these would be neat, but after reading your review I think I would pass on them. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either of them and my current primer is about to run out so I'm looking for a new one. My skin is oily so I may try the nyx one. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the investigative work with these two products. Primer is so important and glad I won't waste my money on these!

Oh no I hate anything the shimmers on my face besides eyeshadow haha! Dying over the twilight jokes! ;p

I've wanted to try the YSL but could never justify that price!

Is it weird that I like the gold flecks and want to look like a character from Twilight?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm only partially kidding.
Im not sure if I would like the gold flecks frim the ysl but the nyx one looks interesting x

Bahahaha... Twilight glitter jokes! I'm not all about the gold flecks either, unless they rub in and become more of a highlight than actual glitter.
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect timing, my primer just ran out yesterday and I'm running through the backup samples I have. I was considering the YSL, but really didn't want to spend the money. This def solidifies that I won't.

I'm so glad you compared/reviewed these since I was curious about both of them. I want to try the YSL one but it's just too $$.
ReplyDeleteRowena @ rolala loves
I coughed at $52 for 1 oz... OUCH!
ReplyDeleteLOL at the Twilight jokes with the gold glitter! Both of these sound fabulous, but I would probably go with the bargain brand because it has less gold glitter, and it would be great for my oily skin :)

I have the NYX Dew Me Up and it's a decent primer- but I agree, I have others that are superior in my arsenal! ;)

I haven't try either one of these

I got the YSL from Influenster too and while I think it worked it is too expensive for me to want to repurchase.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either of these, but thanks to your reviews, I won't bother. Thanks for the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of silicone type primers either. I will definitely be skipping out on these two. Thank goodness for your reviews!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about them and while you say that NYX gold disappears a bit, and got Twilight jokes because of the gold particles, but in fact, I would like to try the YSL one right now! I like gold shimmer, so thank you for showing that to us!

wahoo pick me!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard or see primers like this! They seem interesting, but even the Nyx one is pricey for the drugstore. My skin doesn't lik silicone so I think I'll skip these. I've wanted that Lorac palette for so long! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteElle, not sure if either one would be good on my skin, it's more dry to normal these days in my 50's. Gold flecks----hrrmm, more for decoration.
ReplyDeleteI've never used a primer. What is it supposed to do.
ReplyDeleteSince I have oily skin, I think the cheaper, goopy one is best for me. Lol
ReplyDeleteI love the YSL primer, it works really well on my skin. I just hate the price.
ReplyDeleteNeither of these primers really interest me either.
ReplyDeleteI got the YSL Primer from Influenster and I liked it, EXCEPT for the gold flecks. I'm too old for body glitter! Even though it worked well for my skin, I don't really use it.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you reviewed these because so many people just love that YSL and I called BS on it and you just proved my point. So thank you for pulling me off the trigger line with that because I was still all...but maybe?!?! Now I know just no! :)
