NEW Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Reviews

One of the items from my haul yesterday (missed it? click here) was of the new-to-America Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water--the waterproof version. I am a huge fan of micellar waters (click here to learn more about them) and the Garnier is one of my faves. This was only available in other countries before and I used to order it online, so I was thrilled to find this at Walgreens and at ULTA.

Micellar waters are gentle face cleansers. They feel like water and don't have to be rinsed away. Since so many of you wear light makeup, I thought you'd love learning more about these. So now that I have both versions I wanted to compare them and see which is better, and which one would be right for you.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Makeup Remover and Cleanser

  • Note, packaging is slightly different. Click here for a pic.
  • Details:
    • This All-in-1 cleanser is surprisingly powerful yet gentle to skin. It effectively removes makeup, cleanses skin and refreshes. A multi-purpose cleanser that contains Micellar technology. Like a magnet, micelles capture and lift away dirt, oil and makeup without harsh rubbing, leaving skin perfectly clean, hydrated and refreshed without over-drying.
  • Dermatologist tested for safety. Ophthalmologist tested. Non-comedogenic--won't clog pores.
  • Ingredients:
    • Aqua/Water, Hexylene Glycol, Glycerin, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Disodium EDTA, Poloxamer 184, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide
  • This does an excellent job at removing makeup, ranging from cream concealers to matte lipsticks.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Waterproof
  • Details:
    • Surprisingly powerful yet gentle to your skin with Micellar Technology. Like a magnet, micelles capture and lift away dirt, oil and makeup without harsh rubbing, leaving skin perfectly clean and refreshed without over-drying. Even removes waterproof mascara.
  • All-in-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser removes makeup + cleanses + refreshes. No rinse, no harsh rubbing. For face, lips, eyes.
  • Micelle Technology. No Oil, Alcohol, Fragrance
  • Ingredients:
    • Aqua/Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isohexadecane, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Dipotassium Phosphate, Disodium Edta, Decyl Glucoside, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide
  • This feels more like a traditional makeup remover, and did a better job at removing waterproof mascara.
  • It looks oily--shake it to see--but doesn't feel oily or leave an oily residue.

This or That:
  • Both are great options if you'd like a gentle cleanser that doesn't feel oily or irritate skin. Since wipes usually have alcohol, which can be drying, or sometimes fragrance, which can be a skin irritant, micellar waters are a good alternative.
  • The waterproof version (blue) did much better at removing waterproof mascara than the original version (pink).
  • Both are around $7.99 at ULTA or Walgreens for around 200 uses.
Have you tried micellar waters?

Extra Elle:
  • Yesterday was my first day back at my day job (nanny) after 2 weeks off. They flew by! I took only Christmas Eve and Day off from the blog, but next year I think I'll do like most of you did, and take off even more time.
  • Winter has finally arrived in Atlanta. We've had temps in the 40s, which isn't bad at all, so now I get to wear my sweaters and scarves. I'm sure I'll be changing my tune next month! ;)

  11. Thanks for this, Elle:) I've only tried the Bioderma one which I do love, but Garnier is a much cheaper option.

  12. These both sound divine! I've never tried a micellar water before. As I don't use waterproof mascara, I think I'd be fine with the pink bottle.

Cheers to making it through your first day back at work! I felt completely incoherent while working yesterday - misreading e-mails and everything. What the holidays do to you! :P

  15. I still haven't tried a micellar water and I think I should--the non-drying factor is really appealing, especially right now. I rarely wear waterproof mascara so I think I'd try the regular version. Hope your work week started off well...it's hard to go back, right?!

  16. Ohhh... I'm always afraid to try new things like that. I tried the Yes To wipes & it broke out my face - scared me from trying new stuff again.

  17. I still haven't tried any micellar waters but I think if I do, I will grab one of these!!! Can I just say how happy I am about the cooler temps?!?! It finally feels like winter around here!

  18. Great review! I've been using the Simple brand micellar water. I don't use it every day, but when I'm feeling lazy, it's been perfect. It's great to use during the week when I don't wear much face or eye makeup.

  19. Great comparison post, Elle! I took almost two weeks off and I believe many bloggers did the same too and it's so refreshing to come back blogging after a long break.

  21. I've never even heard of this product or seen it until your post! They both sound good to me! I really am into good facial cleansers and I've found that the gentler they are, the better. Thanks for the introduction, especially at such a good price!

  22. I have yet to try cleansing waters, I like that they are gentle.

  23. I've been using the version from Simple, but now, I might have to check out Garnier's :)

  26. I really like both of them! I probably like the waterproof one better than the other, just because I wear a lot of waterproof makeup. These both worked better than the Simple one did and I'm happy to have an alternative to Bioderma!

  27. I need to buy this next time I run out of makeup remover. I really do like to use something that is gentle on my sensitive skin. I also wear light makeup, except sometimes go out more with my eyes. I'll pick up the one that is good on waterproof mascara.

  28. I adore Bioderma, so if this Garnier cleansing water works the same, it would save so much money. I have to find this soon!

  30. OOOOH I like this! I've never heard of it before but it sounds like something I could use when I'm too lazy to actually wash my face. I'll probably pick some up next time I'm in Ulta

  31. I've been curious about micellar waters for awhile so this was really helpful. I like that these options are so affordable. Winter has arrived in NYC as well but our temps are about half that of yours in Atlanta.

  32. I have not tried Micellar waters, but they sound intriguing. I think I might have to pick one up and give it a go.

  33. These cleansing waters sound like a great product and I like that they contain no alcohol or oil which is similar to the one I have been using from Body Shop for 10+ years. Although the price is more affordable for the garnier ones.

  34. I've never heard of micellar water before! I like the idea that it can take off makeup without the alcohol that's usually in wipes because I feel like that really dries out my skin! Definitely the worst during the winter!

  35. I have not tried those water before, but now I'm intrigued.

  36. I got the waterproof remover yesterday and I'm all ready in love. I was swatching liquid lipsticks for a post last night and they came off so easily with the waterproof remover. It's a game changer and a much better value than the Simple water. I don't want to be without this stuff!

  37. I found this too drying on my skin, and would react more when I used it, I have sensitive skin, so trying other products now sadly http://maybemayhemmakeup.blogspot.com.au/

  38. I've been interested in micellar water products since they were recommended to me by a makeup artist but I keep forgetting to give one a go. Thanks for sharing your review :)

  42. I feel like I live in a dark hole! I only heard of Micellar water a few months back and got a freebie to try. It was the only thing that removed my halloween make up! Will look for the waterproof version here since it's so humid I only wear waterproof makeup! Thanks for this review!

  43. I've seen these and I was curious about them. I've only tried the one from Simple so far. I like to use them in the morning when I'm too lazy to wash my face. I wasn't sure if th Simple one was breaking me out or not. Do you like this one better?

  45. They sound like great products. I am definitely interested to try the pink bottle. I could use a new product for my face lately since I have had some break out and acne problems. Both Ulta and Walgreens are far from me but I plan to do a trip yo Walgreens just for these. Good luck with the new year nannying the little ones.

  47. I tried the Simple micellar water... have you used that one?? It didn't do much for me so I kind of lost faith in these. I didn't really think about it being for light makeup though - I wear a LOT, lol

  49. I am soooo behind on my blog reading, so for that I apologize! I have never been into micellar waters. /: I tried a sample of the Simple one and was underwhelmed. I felt cost wise my coconut water just did it better. Would you say these are better than the simple brand? I hate to write off a product after trying one brand.

  50. I love the pink version! I've been using it for almost 8 months and since I rarely wear waterproof makeup it has been perfect for removing my makeup and refreshing my face in the mornings.
