A few months ago, I started a a series on here where I take so-called dupes I found online and compared them to the real thing. I've had some that were exact dupes, and some that weren't even close. Today, I've got a super-cheap lipstick (Wet N Wild Mocha-licious) vs. a liquid lipstick (Kat Von D Lolita). Lolita is popular chestnut rose shade, (brown lips are having a 90s moment) but it's pricey! So, is it a dupe or not?
Kat Von D in Lolita (pictured is a mini size from a gift set)
- Matte liquid lipstick
- Sephora
- $20
- Semi-matte lipstick
- drugstores, online
- $1.99
Quite a price difference, right? Looking at them in their containers, they look similar. But let's swatch them:
Leave me your dupe comparison requests!
Extra Elle:
- Over the break I saw the movie The Danish Girl (heartbreaking, predictable ending, but great performances) and like nearly EVERYONE, I binged Making a Murderer. Have you seen it?

Great dupe Elle! I am looking forward to trying some liquid matte lipsticks because they seem to be everywhere and the KAt Von D one looks great on you.

That's crazy! Such a great dupe and such a pretty color! I still haven't seen Making A Murderer but I heard it's good. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteI love these dupe posts, Elle! Perfect color match and what a difference in price!

A Blonde's Moment
i totally didn't think they would match up - i'm kinda obsessed with the brown lips right now. so 90s (which hello, is my fav). I still need to watch making a murderer!

I'm so not a lipstick person, but I love the neutral colors of these!
ReplyDeleteCrazy that the color is the same - I mean obviously I'd go with the cheaper option on this one!! Great review! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteOoh, I've been wanting Lolita, but am hesitant to spend that much for a lippy - definitely going to look for the WnW the next time I'm at a drugstore!

I'm definitely going to try the Wet n' Wild version! I was tempted to buy the other the last time I was in Sephora as I really liked the color so this is great news.

I actually own this wet n' wild lipstick and love the color on! It's such a great nude color and close enough to the lolita shade that I agree it's an awesome dupe! That shade looks very pretty on you too!
ReplyDeleteFor that price, it's definitely close enough! Such a pretty color!
ReplyDeleteI love your dupe series and thus is a goodie! Wet and Wild it is!!!! Have a wonderful Wednesday gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! This is a good dupe. My younger sis was just looking at the Lolita at Sephora but the one we went to didn't have it in stock. Next time I see her, I'll let her know about the Wet n Wild one. Thanks for this, Elle:)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!:)
ReplyDeleteI hope you're having a lovely day so far!

Still haven't seen making a murderer :) Might have to! It's like the new Serial.
ReplyDeleteGreat color and great dupe! Thanks for sharing! Might have to try it out!
ReplyDeleteI actually think I would prefer the WNW lippie since I'm not the biggest fan of matte lip products! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletexo, Lily
I love a good one where WNW wins... save that money!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great post! It's so crazy, in the first lip picture I thought there was a difference but looking at the other two there is none at all! Wild!
ReplyDeleteLove your dupe posts and this is such a great natural shade!

I am loving this series! I'm not a huge fan of those colors (I might be the only to say that), but I love finding high end items for cheaper prices. The Wet n Wild lipsticks are really good!
ReplyDeleteI seriously use Wet and Wild lipsticks to try out new colors ALL THE TIME. And then if I like them, I'll commit to the better version of it. I think they both look great!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great dupe! I think this is one of the closest I have seen. Love your dupes, Elle!
ReplyDeleteYessss, the $2 for the win!! Because this is a color that I'm not sure would work on me, I'm so glad the cheaper option is a good one. I think I may try it!
ReplyDeleteThe 6 year old convinced me, gotta love lil ones :)! Great research, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer Lolita, the shade is just a little bit more "gentle" on the eye for me. :) Haven't seen the film yet, but would absolutely love to. x
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I am watching Making A Murderer and shouting at the TV. My husband does it too.
LOVE that color and that it was a successful dupe!!
ReplyDeleteWNW lipsticks are fantastic for their price point!!
ReplyDeletesuper pretty colour though http://maybemayhemmakeup.blogspot.com.au/
ReplyDeleteHaha! the 6 year old test is always the truest answer. They sure do look alike to me! I love this series!
ReplyDeleteAmazing that swatched they look so different but on they look identical. I haven't seen Making a Murderer yet, need to get on it.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS Color!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing dupe! On your arm I was a little iffy but they look almost exact on your lips! I need to pick up this color for sure!

I'm loving the 90's lip, and you can't beat the price of Mocha-Licious :)
ReplyDeleteI love dupes! Great find! :)
ReplyDeletewww.vanessasrunway.com
So interesting that they look so similar on the lips despite looking different on your hand! :)
ReplyDeleteAway From The Blue Blog
great find!! the cheaper version looks SO similar. xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy and such a price difference in the two! I might have to pick up the WnW one since I've been eyeing Lolita for a while! So funny how they swatch different but look the same on the lips. I have a few lip sticks that do that to me!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Gotta love a Wet n' Wild dupe! I've never tried an ABH Liquid Lipstick. I've always wanted to try, but have been on the fence about the price.
ReplyDeleteI have never cared much about Wet N' Wild products but this sounds like a great dupe. I say it is a must try especially since it is about ten times less that the Sephora one.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried many Wet n Wild products but I may have to look for this. Thanks for the info Elle!
ReplyDeleteNice dupe comparisons! I really like the shades!
