Dupe or Not? Wet N Wild Mocha-Licious & Kat Von D Lolita

A few months ago, I started a a series on here where I take so-called dupes I found online and compared them to the real thing. I've had some that were exact dupes, and some that weren't even close.  Today, I've got a super-cheap lipstick (Wet N Wild Mocha-licious) vs. a liquid lipstick (Kat Von D Lolita). Lolita is popular chestnut rose shade, (brown lips are having a 90s moment) but it's pricey! So, is it a dupe or not?

Kat Von D in Lolita (pictured is a mini size from a gift set)
  • Matte liquid lipstick
  • Sephora
  • $20
Wet N Wild in Mocha-Licious
  • Semi-matte lipstick
  • drugstores, online
  • $1.99
Quite a price difference, right? Looking at them in their containers, they look similar. But let's swatch them:

They look nothing alike, right? Let's swatch them on lips:

The finish is different (a matte liquid lipstick vs. semi-matte) but the color is exactly the same on me. I hope it comes through as such in the pics. I've tested this in daylight, florescent light, flash photography, cell phone camera, DSLR camera, and had the exact same results. I even asked a 6 year old if they were the same, and she thought I was crazy for asking such a request. ;) I say if you are looking for this shade, go for the Wet N Wild in Mocha-licious!

Leave me your dupe comparison requests!

Extra Elle:
  • Over the break I saw the movie The Danish Girl (heartbreaking, predictable ending, but great performances) and like nearly EVERYONE, I binged Making a Murderer. Have you seen it?

  1. Great dupe Elle! I am looking forward to trying some liquid matte lipsticks because they seem to be everywhere and the KAt Von D one looks great on you.

  8. Ooh, I've been wanting Lolita, but am hesitant to spend that much for a lippy - definitely going to look for the WnW the next time I'm at a drugstore!

  40. That's crazy and such a price difference in the two! I might have to pick up the WnW one since I've been eyeing Lolita for a while! So funny how they swatch different but look the same on the lips. I have a few lip sticks that do that to me!

  41. Oh wow! Gotta love a Wet n' Wild dupe! I've never tried an ABH Liquid Lipstick. I've always wanted to try, but have been on the fence about the price.

  42. I have never cared much about Wet N' Wild products but this sounds like a great dupe. I say it is a must try especially since it is about ten times less that the Sephora one.
