I'm back with with another so-called dupe! But before we begin, did you catch yesterday's post? It's one of my faves.
As I've mentioned a few times before, Covergirl has released several new products, including the Oh Sugar! lip balms. Thanks to a suggestion on Facebook, a reader asked if they were a dupe for Fresh Sugar's tinted lip treatments. I had both and decided to test them. Do you have either of these?
In the tube they look similar, but let's get some background info on each:
Covergirl
- $8.99 (I've seen them for $6.99)
- ULTA, drugstores, online
- 10 shades
- CoverGirl's Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balm is a vitamin infused, moisturizing lip treatment that nourishes, protects and smooths lips. Grapeseed oil, avocado butter and vitamins C and E lock in moisture, keeping lips soft and smooth.
- Has parabens
- $24
- Sephora, online
- 14 shades
- Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 blends reparative oils and waxes with real sugar, a natural humectant, for delectable and dependable moisture. Sweet and tart black currant oil, rich in plumping essential fatty acids, cushions the lips while antioxidant grapeseed polyphenols and vitamins A, C, and E provide protection from wrinkle-causing free radicals. It provides essential, year-round protection from damaging UV rays.
- paraben-free
Big difference in price, but similar in some ingredients, yet some, completely different.
Here are arm swatches. You can tell that Fresh Sugar is a bit more pigmented.
But here I am wearing both--CG on your left, and FS on your right. It's barely noticeable.
You can tell it a bit better in the video below.
Is it a dupe? They are very similar, but Fresh Sugar is much more moisturizing and a little more pigmented, but also very expensive for a lip balm. It's completely up to you!
Have you tried either of these? Which did you prefer?
Would what you like to see duped next?
What did you think of the video?
Extra Elle:
- This month is flying by! I still have my decorations from Valentine's Day up! I'm enjoying all the pink.
- This weekend is the OSCARS!! I'm VERY VERY excited about this commercial.
i can't get over my fresh sugar balms and don't think i could switch ha. but i get the smaller ones usually and i feel better about my purchase :) especially since i'm a lip balm hoarder!

i've tried both! i liked the consistency of the Sugar brand more. xo jillian - cornflake dreams
ReplyDeleteI have the fresh one in my Sephora shopping cart currently so this post was perfect timing!
ReplyDeleteI've only tried the Fresh products when I get a free sample or gift with purchase. I like them, but don't like how soft they are because it gets messy!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with the cover girl because I would NEVER spent over $20.00 for a lipstick. I'm cheap. Plus I loose lipsticks in a matter of days anyways
ReplyDeleteI love sugar lip colors, they are soooo moisturizing and the color is always great. I try to buy them in packs when sephora has a sale since they aren't cheap.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that there is something similar but I love the fresh sugar lip products too much to switch!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the Covergirl ones. I have two of he fresh ones from the Sephora birthday gift with them a few years ago. Will be watching your video later! And yes this month definitely flew by!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either, but I love the colour and the idea of wearing it instead of more pigmented lipstick (this happens to be one of my ultimate favourite shades...) Don't mind either of them, so it'll depend on the ingredient list. x
ReplyDeleteI think for a lip balm i could never pay that price! It is just one of those products i will always buy the drugstore version.

I was actually interested in this shade of the Fresh Sugar but thanks to you I think I may just check out the Covergirl one instead. I love this series! Yes where did February go?
ReplyDeleteI have read a few bloggers saying the same thing as you, Elle, similar but CoverGirl is not as pigmented nor hydrating. Love your comparison/dupe posts!

I cannot wait to see the red carpet looks!
ReplyDeleteI love my fresh lip balms, but the price kills me. I like the hydrating, not really the color so i guess the cover girl is not for me. I did what is left out of my fresh tubes with my pinky, I look ridiculous! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh I'll have to try the CG version--I wouldn't shell out more than that for tinted lip balm. I love this series of yours!
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison! For the price difference, I would just go with the covergirl since its only a lip balm!
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty, I love this color!!

I love my fresh lip products, I always buy the sample kit around the holidays and it lasts throughout the year!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried the Fresh lip balm, but I did buy one of the CoverGirl Oh Sugar! balms last week. I do not like it all. I don't think it's even the slightest bit moisturizing. I'm excited for the Oscar fashions! The Oscar's Red Carpet is my Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the Oh Sugar! Balm I got the chance to try, and I think it's a great dupe for the Fresh balms. They're so dang expensive and I can't justify spending over $20 on a lip balm. The Covergirl ones are a great option!

I have two of the Sugar balms that were birthday gifts from Sephora, and I love how they feel. But they're so expensive! I love that there's a kind of dupe option available.
ReplyDeleteI just got down my V-Day decor yesterday when I had my son home sick from school! I haven't tried either of these, but the Cover Girl one looks identical on your lips. I need to look for this next time I'm at Target (the CG one). It sounds perfect for the rest of these cold days of winter!

I tend to just purchase Cover Girl items.
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Sugar lip treatment before, and while I liked it, I just thought that it was ok. I'll definitely be wanting to try the Cover Girl instead because it's cheaper and seems to look the same when it's worn.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Both have a nice color (which I love for any lip product). The Cover Girl is such a great option for a lower price!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how quickly this month flew by either! These lippies are so pretty, but I'm all about paying more if it means better pigmentation and moisturizing. Thanks for the comparison <3

I have a few of the Fresh lip balms laying around. I purchased a bunch when they were super hyped up a few years back. I totally agree, really expensive for a lip balm. Also, mine sort of melted, I guess, in the tube? They were never exposed to warm temps, so I'm not sure how that happened.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it looks like a pretty great dupe!
ReplyDeletexx, A Little Dose of Makeup
I got the Oh Sugar in my March Allure box in the Soda color. I like the way it feels and all that but I am still intrigued to try the Sugar ones even though they cost more because so many people are obsessed and swear by them. I need to suck it up and splurge!!
ReplyDeleteI like the opening music to your video!
ReplyDeleteLook wise on your lips I totally can't tell a difference! Other than the less moisturizing part, it sounds like this is a winner!
I love the Fresh Lip Treatments but would love to try out the Covergirl dupe as well! There seems to be a big difference in the pigmentation but I will swatch the shades that Covergirl has nonetheless <3 Thanks for the review + comparison! xx

I never saw Covergirl being sold where I am now, and Fresh Sugar also not, though we always can count on Sephora for the rescue! I think I would go with the more moisturizing one, the latter, and also because it is slightly more pigmented, as you said. My lips are normally in great need of moisturizing, so I would choose the Fresh sugar :)

You look gorgeous, Elle - and I am completely digging this dupe! I actually prefer the paler pigmentation of the Maybelline - it's more me!
ReplyDeletexx
I love how close those shades are to each other! They're not shades that I personally would wear, but it's a great dupe!

They do look really similar! I've tried Fresh Sugar before and liked it, but I wish it wasn't so expensive...
ReplyDeleteThey are similar for sure ! Love this color !
ReplyDeleteAlso, I nominated you for the Blogger awards : http://www.myfashionworld.fr/blogger-awards/

They look different on your arm, but really are so similar on your lips! :D What a great comparison.

I love Fresh Sugar balms... haven't tried the Oh, Sugar! ones yet, but, I typically don't have the best luck with Cover Girl products in general.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! Thanks for sharing! <3 - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteThe color is much more pigmented on the more expensive ones and it is one of my favorites!

What a great dupe! Although the fresh sugar one is a little more pigmented they look so similar for the price difference!

They do look very similar, but I'm more of a Fresh fan myself. But the CG is a nice budget friendly option.
ReplyDeletei dont know but I find the fresh sugar pigmentation and packaging really amazing :D
ReplyDeleteI've only tried the Fresh products. They look similar and I love the budget friendly price of the Cover Girl. I'm going to have to try it to see how moisturizing it is.

I really want to try the Covergirl Oh Sugar balms! I love the price and the shades. You can defintiely tell the Fresh is more pigmented, but I don't mind that for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy one of the CG ones today and I put it back... Im going back to get one or two for sure now!
ReplyDeleteI do love Fresh products, but its so expensive here in Sing. I abstain! Although I doubt we have the Covergirl "dupe". Sigh
