I Can't Decide! Beauty Products I'm On the Fence With

It's fairly common on a beauty blog to see products we love, like favorites (I'm sharing mine on Friday) or products that didn't work out. Today, I wanted to do something different--products I'm on the fence about. I just can't decide if I really like these or not, but I don't dislike them either.

If you've tried these, let me know your thoughts!

Dr. Brandt Oxygen Facial--Sephora--I shared this yesterday on my Odd & Unusual Masks post. I saw this after seeing it on so many blogs. I love it, and it works well, but I can't justify that price tag to purchase again.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation--Beautylish.com--This is already being heralded as THE top foundation for 2016, and it only came out here last month. What makes it magic? It can work on any skin type: acne, scarring, mature, etc. On my dry skin, this looks like a regular foundation, nothing fancy. I really have to hydrate to use it. I don't like the applicator because it's so goopy.

Fiona Styles Corrector, Foundation, and Volumizing Mascara--ULTA--Just like Ms. Tilbury above, Fiona Styles is a celeb makeup artist. I've been following her career for years and love her product suggestions, so I was excited when this was released last month. She has a full range of products, of which I chose 3.
  • Corrector--very creamy but prone to creasing
  • Foundation--Despite "luminous" being in the title, it wears very similar on me to the Magic Foundation. It doesn't look great on my dry skin, but it's workable as long as I use oil on my face first to prep it.
  • Mascara--This wears and looks just like L'Oreal Voluminous on me, but for a much higher price.
Honest Beauty Everything Tinted Moisturizer--ULTA--Apparently I was on a celeb-product kick last month. Started by actress Jessica Alba, as a continuation of her Honest care line for kids, I found a lot of the products to be geared towards oily skin, which is great. This tinted moisturizer goes on thick and well, and reminds me of a really expensive one from Koh Gen Doh. But it has to be reapplied every couple of hours or the product is gone. That is understandable, as the more natural a product is, the less is lasts. Not a bad thing at all, but sometimes I don't want to constantly reapply.

L'Oreal Butterfly Sculpt--Target--Finally something from the drugstore in this list! This is just okay on me. While I love the original Butterfly, this wand is a little hard to work with. It's not bad, just not my go-to.

MAC So Select Lipstick--MAC Online--MAC started their own rewards program, and one "perk" is that you could get this shade, only for Select members. It's a gorgeous matte color (I have swatches and more in the video that is currently uploading) but looks very similar to MAC Twig, which I already own.

Too Faced Peanut Butter Jelly Palette--TooFaced.com--How cute is this palette? I love it. I'm wearing it in the video below, but it isn't a must-have for me. It smells like peanuts and is perfect for travel though.

And here's a video I made for you (currently uploading) where I go into more detail:

Did you see the embarrassing moment I didn't edit out?
What about Charlie?
Do you like my videos?

What products are you on the fence about?

Extra Elle:
  • If you were unable to comment yesterday, I'm sorry about that! Not sure what happened, but glad it is fixed! Now go get caught up! ;)
  • I couldn't sleep last night, so lots of coffee and water for today. I've got another long work day--I get home around 8 and then blog until midnight!

  1. I've heard a lot of good things about the Dr. Brandt mask but I agree, for the price. No thank you. And as much as I love a natural product, having to reapply throughout the day kinda defeats the purpose! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  2. I couldn't get your video to load for me :( I will have to try again later. I was wondering about Honest beauty products. Have you tried any others? I haven't tried any of these....

  3. i haven't tried any of these so i cannot help there! that MAC lipstick looks pretty though. i love their matte ones! side note, i couldn't comment yesterday, for some reason it wouldn't let me! sorry about that

  4. I haven't tried any of these, but I did see the MAC color, and was not impressed. I haven't really been inspired to order anything from their site. Guess I have a long way to go to earn rewards. Oops!

  5. I've heard so much good stuff about the Fiona Styles line! Interesting to hear that you don't like it as much. I guess I'll hold off buying it ;)

  6. Why does Too Faced have to make products that smell so good! I swear I'm always hungry after I put on my Bronzer because it smells like chocolate! That palette has some pretty colors, and would be perfect for traveling!

  7. Ah, I've been debating that PB&J Palette from Too Faced. I love the colors, but am not sure if I'd get a ton of use out of it {the way I do their Chocolate Bar Palettes}. I may hold off for the Sweet Peach Palette!

  8. I'm with you on the Dr. Brandt products. I have heard so many great reviews, but it's hard to justify the price!

  10. I review everything I use, so I have quite a few "on the fence" products I share, but I haven't tried anything you mentioned here. That being said, I wasn't too keen on the original Butterfly mascara as well, so I never tried the other versions they came out with.

  11. At first glance I thought that was MAC's Twig lipstick. As much as I love MAC lipsticks, I wish they would stop re-duping so many of their lipsticks lol!

  12. That Too Faced palette is so pretty- and smells like peanuts?! Lol, makes sense with the name. Thanks for sharing these on-the-fencers; now I'm curious if the Charlotte Tilbury foundation would be worth it, because my skin is a bit dry, too!

  13. I went to Ulta to buy the PB&J palette and decided against it. I have similar colors to all the neutrals and figured I could just pick up a purple similar to the Jelly color. It was a tough choice, though, because I really do love it

  14. That palette sounds and looks super cute, but I am not sure how I would feel about smelling like peanuts all day!

  15. I haven't tried any of these products, i hate when you buy a product and you can't decide if you like it or not. I end up putting them in my drawer and forgetting about them.

  17. Oooo this is a great post Elle! I don't see a lot of on the fence posts so I really enjoyed this. Ive heard good things about the dr Brandt mask, I hate it when I like something but hate the price tag. It's one of those I like it but I'll never purchase it again things. I haven't heard of any of the others you mentioned, except the Loreal mascara and the too faced palette. I hate it when I get a palette and think it's pretty but not really necessary of a must have, then I won't reach for it much.

  18. I have never heard of most of these. I am intrigued by the Charlotte Tillbury foundation. I am always looking for a new one to try. Hope you sleep tonight!

  19. I saw another review for the Dr. Brant mask and my first thought was holy cow, the price! It might lovely but for that price I want my skin to be bath with diamond dust. LOL!

  20. Woah! You work until 8pm? Is that every day!? So you have any posts on your nanny job, I'd love to read on whatever you're allowed to share! I work until 545 usually and thought that was pretty late! Ok watching the video at lunch! Xo

  21. I can totally relate with you on the Dr. Brandt mask, it's nice but it's definitely pricey!
I originally wanted the Peanut Butter & Jelly palette so bad...but I found that I already have very similar colors in my collection and even re-created a look that a YouTuber did using only that palette...saved me $30ish bucks right there! I filmed the look, still undecided if I should upload it or not. Love this idea for a post!

Oh my...I remember when my work days ended at 8. It made for a super long day. Props to ya, Elle! I don't think I could stay up until midnight blogging. I'm glad that I'm able to get blog work done while I'm at work. LOL! I didn't get good sleep last night either...can't wait to go to bed!

  22. That is kind of funny that last palette smells like peanuts--I'm not sure I would like that! The colors are pretty though. I like hearing about things you're on the fence about, I feel that way about a lot of beauty products.

  23. I have only tried the butterfly mascara, and I didn't love it either :(

  24. I love this post idea! I haven't tried any of these, but it is good to know your thoughts. Hope you can get a little rest tonight!

  25. I thought it was my computer not letting me comment, but good to know it wasn't. I will have to go catch up! I'm so glad you shared your thoughts on the Charlotte Tilbury foundation. Since it's labeled as magic, I just assumed such and wanted to try it. I think I'll stick to my MAC. I almost ordered the special MAC lipstick, but decided not to and I'm glad I did. Twig didn't look the best on me so this might not have worked out. I love this type of post and I can't wait to watch your video later. I love your videos, especially when Charlie makes an appearance!

  26. What a great post! There really are so many products you feel meh about and don't love or hate. I would love to try the oxygen facial, but at that price I'll look for a different product. Your hair looks fab in the video by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I didn't know MAC had a rewards program! I usually buy online and not directly from them, so maybe that is why I am clueless. Hmm, I would like to try that Dr. Brandt oxygen facial once, and I'd have to love it to get it again if the price is steep!

  29. I love Too Faced products but I'm not sure I could use any of those products in the palette so defintiely agree and good to know about the Mac rewards program too!

  30. I've been curious about most of these products and even almost purchased the L'Oreal mascara today. I've been on the fence about buying the PB&J palette because I think I'm just going to go for the Peach one!

  31. I've been curious about the Dr Brandt mask but the price holds me back. That PB&J palette is so cute but I'm not sure if I would get tired of the smell.

  32. I was interested in the Honest Beauty Everything Tinted Moisturizer and it sounds good except for the having to reapply every few hours. Who has time for that?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Honest Beauty is on my list of brands to try, but the Ulta near me doesn't carry it... Good to know the tinted moisturizer doesn't last long.

  34. I've not tried much Honest Beauty products yet, only a lip colour that I liked a lot. Thanks for letting us know your experiences on these products. x/Madison

  40. That PB & J palette is so stinkin adorable! I've been wondering if it's really worth it or not, but can't decide either! I think it's more of the packaging itself that intrigues me :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm very interested to see your opinion of the Fiona Stiles foundation in the long run. I almost bought it when I was there two weeks ago but the lightest shade was iffy on me. I have never jumped on the Too Faced shadow palette bandwagon and I'm glad I'm not missing out terribly. I mean, yes their packaging is top notch, but I'm a quality and pigment type of gal. (;

  42. I couldn't be more excited about MAC finally getting a rewards program, and I've been wanting to try out that members only shade. So pretty! Sorry you couldn't sleep last night, the worst! Cheers to all the coffee <3

  48. I haven't purchased the Too Faced PB&J palette, but that's mostly because I've been on the fence about it, too! It looks TOTALLY cute and I love the idea of the smell...but I feel like all the browns I already have in my Semi-Sweet and the purple didn't stand out to me. But with all the hype it's been getting....I've had my doubts so many times! Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts. Now I am at ease skipping out on this one!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I like the shades of the last two products, so if I used them, I'd most likely repurchase. As for Charlotte's foundation, it may be all the hype, but she uses parabens in it, so it's definitely a no for me. x

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love this post--I have soooo many products that I end up dithering over, and I don't see a lot of posts addressing that issue!

On a side note, I have to say that it's really inspiring how much work you put into this blog. You are so driven and organized, I don't know how you do it!

    ReplyDelete
  51. If it's a pricy product I have to LOVE it and it needs to make me look like a celebrity, well that may be unrealistic but you get the idea. I've been curious about the honest product and the company as a whole. What's your overall opinion of the company and their products?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have not tried any of these products. I did debate about the product for too face eye shadow palette that you mentioned. Since I was trying to figure out what I wanted to buy. http://emilymaiko.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  53. i haven't tried any of these! i feel that way about a lot of products though, normally the more expensive ones, because when they are expensive i want them to do what they say! haha. i'm much more lenient with drugstore products. i haven't tried that l'oreal mascara but the wand does look super weird.
