Ombre lips are still such a huge trend, and beauty companies are making the fun effect even easier, with 2-in-1 lip combos. I'm testing one from the drug store and one that's high end: NYX Ombre Lip Duo Vs. Makeup Forever Pro Sculpting Lip.
NYX Ombre Lip Duo
- I've shared this product here and here before.
- $12
- 12 shades
- Fill in the lip with one end and use the other for detail
Make Up Forever Pro Sculpting Lip (pr sample)
- $27
- 4 shades
- Creamy pencil on one end, iridescent powder on the other
Just fill in your lip and tap the powder in the center of the lip. Be sure to wipe off the tip before securing back in the cap.
Here are swatches, but TRUST ME, these do not photo as pretty as they are! NYX Freckles and Speckles on your left, MUFE Rust on right.
MUFE Rosewood, with flash--this is so pretty in person!
Swatches of NYX at the top, and then MUFE at the bottom.
- Overall, I found the NYX to be harder to work with since it is not that creamy, similar to a regular liner, but definitely you can get the ombre effect.
- The NYX broke very easily.
- It worked fine, until I got to try the MUFE. It was love at first use. While both look natural, or at least I don't wear them in an extreme ombre look, I got the most compliments when wearing the MUFE Pro Sculpting Lip. I prefer that one because the quality is outstanding, but the price tag would definitely be an issue for some.
Have you tried either of these products?
- Thanks everyone for your kind blog anniversary wishes yesterday. I'm feeling the love and have been smiling all day!
- I'm heading back home to meet my newest niece!
- $200 to Sephora sound good? Enter here.

Thanks for comparing these two lines. I love that rosewood color.

That MUFE Rosewood color is gorgeous!!!! I haven't jumped on the ombre lip train but if I did I would go with MUFE. I like creamier products for my dry dry lips. Have fun this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteMUFE sounds awesome. love that bit of shimmer. except you know me, i'm totally obsessed with kylie lip kits right now haha. i can't seem to wear anything else! happy friday!

Love Makeup Forever!

Lipsticks that break easily are so annoying! Thanks for sharing! Xo
ReplyDeleteI have been contemplating the NYX myself, but the fact that it broke so quickly is a total dealbreaker for me. That said, I wouldn't pay for the MUFE because I really only spend the big bucks on eyeshadows, highlighters, and mascara. :P

I didn't even know this was a trend! Thanks for keeping me up with the current times!!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to perfect the ombre lip, but this lip duo looks amazing! Happy Blogiversary gurlie <3

I have tred ombre lips several times now, but somehow I feel like my lips are too thin to really create a true ombre effect.

The makeup forever ones are tempting, but I need to stop buying lipsticks.

I wanted to try the MUFE one! I've had my eyes on it since it was released but held back because it's a touch gimmicky but will pick it up soon!

Have fun meeting that new niece!!!
ReplyDeleteThese colors are sooo pretty. I guess I just don't "get" this ombre lip trend though. haha
ReplyDeleteAs someone who prefers mostly neutral makeup, I didn't think I would like the ombre lip trend. But I actually love both of these on you, and I like that it can be done subtly. I agree that the MUFE does look prettier.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried an ombre lip color, but thanks for the review on the NYX... I think I'd def. try the MUFE! And, I totally didn't realize MUFE stranded for Makeup For Ever at first. I got a free sample of some of their products a couple years ago from Sephora, I should try this ombre lip color next time I'm in there.

The MUFE one sounds amazing. These remind me of the Laneige two tone lip bars that were totally sold out because the leading actress in the K-drama I was just watching wore it in one episode.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being an auntie again! I don't really seem an ombre effect my like you said maybe the photo doesn't do it justice!
ReplyDeleteThe MUFE is so cool. A lipstick + powder combo is something I've never seen before. I'm not a huge fan the super overdone ombre look, I like yours which is so much more natural.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know this was a thing...I'm so behind! But it's very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Have fun meeting your new niece!!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I can't get the ombre effect on my lips...so weird. Cool trend, but I don't think it would look good on me anyway. Great comparison!
ReplyDeleteI can see a difference in the photos and the MUFE is gorgeous! Have fun at home meeting your new niece! Yay!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those are gorgeous, but it does suck that MUFE has such a steep price tag! But sometimes the price tag is totally worth it, I love my MUFE foundation, it's just so good!
ReplyDeleteGlad I read this, I have been wanting to try the NYX version. I really think I can just create it myself though!
ReplyDeleteLots of pretty shades! Have a great weekend meeting your niece!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either of these, but I really like the sound of the MUFE. The idea of having a bit of powder to add to the center sounds really neat.
ReplyDeleteBoth are such a pretty color. I haven't try either of these out yet. Have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteLovin these shades! It looks amazin on you!

I haven't tried the ombre lip look yet. I'm still trying to get into wearing lipstick.

Such gorgeous shades.... x
ReplyDeleteGreat reviews Elle! I would like to try the MUFE one! I think that ombre look is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe MUFE one sounds so nice! I've never used a product like that before, and the powder end would definitely be different for me! Too bad the Nyx one broke easy and wasn't as creamy. I think I'd like to try it anyways, even if I didn't do the Ombre lip I like that I could have two products in one lol!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love ombré lips and this idea is fab! X

I just got the MUFE ones in the same colors and I'm obsessed! The only thing I didn't like is I felt like they were super drying on my lips after wearing it for hours, did it do that to you??
