Primers to Hide Pores: High End

I hope you had a great weekend and a great Mother's Day. I am getting over a really nasty cold (that feels like the flu) so I wasn't able to visit back home and see my mom. Once again, my dog Charlie failed to bring me breakfast in bed for Mother's Day! ;)

Since there was no food in the house (I found gummy bears that had seen better days) I had to venture out from Sofa City. I didn't wear any makeup last week, but thought I'd wear some to the grocery store. I threw on some primer and kind of gave up after that.

But when I was in the check out line, the girl scanning my groceries complemented me on my skin. I mumbled a "thanks" to her and didn't think about it until I was finishing this post tonight. It must have been the primer. A few weeks ago, I shared some drugstore primers to hide pores, and many of you wanted a high end version. Try Sephora or your favorite department store for these. Prices will vary. Here are some of the best primers to hide pores:

$49
Comes in 3 sizes
Traditional silicone primer

$57

For each primer you'll see a demo on my pores, zoomed in 300% times, with my freckles a plenty. This is the corner of my nose (the shaded part on the mid left) to right below my eye (top area).

$36
"skin"color, mousse texture

$37
2 sizes
Great for mattiyfing, but not best for hiding pores

$30
"skin" color

$32
white
best for hydrating skin, silicone-free

$28
White stick with light-medium color in the middle that mattifies and blurs pores

$39
"skin-like" mousse texture
2 sizes

$31
"skin-like"
2 sizes

Overall, I really love Smashbox primers, and on my skin, they really help to hide pores. I also prefer primers with the "skin-like" tint to them, like Primed and Poreless and the Porefessional. For dry to combo skin types that want hydration without being greasy, try Hangover. For matte skin and longevity, try MUFE.

I have more primers coming soon!
What is your favorite primer?

  1. So sorry to hear that you were sick and couldn't make it home for Mother's Day. Hope you feel better soon! Also, I started using the Too Faced primer a few months ago and really like it! Totally agree, great for hydrating your skin!

  4. I'm a fan Smashbox primers too but right now I'm using the Urban Decay primer. I think I'd like to try the Too Faced or Kiehls next - love that they are tinted! Hope you are feeling better!

  5. Primers always confuse me. There are so many options and I never know what to buy! Will most of these work with a waterbase foundation? will a silicone primer work with it as well? I am on the hunt for a new one and it's overload!

  15. I feel like sometimes primers can tale the skin to the next level, just by smoothing things out while looking very natural.

  20. Oh gosh, I hope you're feeling much better, Elle. :-( I have Smashbox Photo Finish primer but dislike it soooo much! It just makes my face look really matte and flat. I am planning to pick up Too Faced Hangover primer soon, many seems to love it.

  21. I hope you get better soon ! But now that I got a travel size of Smashbox correcting green primer, omg it feels so much better than my Laura Mercier. Also I find my make up blends a little nice over silicone based primers. I have a sample of the micro-blur and i cant' wait to try that. This was a great post !!!

  22. Sorry you were so sick this weekend, *hugs*. I've tried so many of these primers looking for something that would keep my face matte in the FL heat and humidity. I was very disappointed by Too Faced Hangover, but have been loving MUFE! <3

  25. Dart didn't go to the store and get me flowers either... Those lazy dogs! I'm sorry that you were sick this weekend and missed seeing your mom for Mother's Day! Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon! I've tried a few of those primers before, and while I did like them, they weren't my favorites. I do have a sample size of the MUFE Equalizer, and I can't wait to give it a try! I've heard nothing but wonderful things about it!

  26. This is a great roundup! I need to try primer because I hear it's such an important step, and I've heard good things about many of these. And Charlie really needs to get on that breakfast in bed :) Hope you're feeling better!

  27. thanks for sharing. I don't wear a lot of make up so when it's time to wear it I am so clueless. You should write a make up for dummies book.. I need one.

  28. This is a great post. I feel like none of the primers I have tried cover my pores really. I do love the Hangover Rx primer and I think I tried the purple SmashBox one. I'm not a fan of the silicone slippery primers.I will have to keep an eye out for these high end ones!

I love Dr. Brandt's Pores No More...it's so pricey, but I do like it. As well as the Porefessional. I think I might try the Smashbox one next.

I hope you are feeling better and can get a bit of rest. Also, I'm pretty sure Charlie will figure out the breakfast and bed trick one of these years! :)

  34. The Smashbox primers look like they work really well in photos! And it sounds like my next primer should have a tint to it. I see a different with the ones with a tint compared to those without.

  35. Love all of the reviews! I've tried most of these, but I still want to give the MUFE matte a go.

  36. Hope you are feeling better! My pup neglected to bring me breakfast in bed too, how rude of her! I love the porefessional a lot, got a sample and have the full size on my wish list. I just got a sample of smashbox, ready to try! Thanhs for a great review!

  37. I have tried Smashbox and Porefessionals out of this lot. I really liked porefessionals. My new favorite pore hider is that Stila Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector I picked up last week! That thing hides them like no other.

  42. I am all about a pore hiding/blurring/filling primer. The only high end one I've tried is the Porefessional and I love it. I also love the NYX Pore Filler and the elf Pore primer. I hear great things about the Smashbox and MUFE ones. I've been really impressed with the elf primer and it's so affordable.

  44. I liked Smashbox, but I liked, on you, Kiehl's Blur and The Estee stick, and it must be practical! I normally don't wear primers, purely because I forget :) But I will try one again today! Your skin is always beautiful!
