Makeup setting sprays are an essential in my makeup bag, especially in summer. There are refreshing sprays, dewy skin sprays, and matte sprays. They range in price from expensive to drugstore. Today I'm reviewing 6 drugstore makeup setting sprays. These have been tested in hot temps and humid climates to see which lasted the longest. I recently tested them on my trip to Cancun last month. All can be found in drugstores and online, unless stated otherwise.
NOTE: The ones I'm sharing today are NOT dewy finish sprays.
These are for setting makeup/makeup extenders.
If you would like a dewy skin version of this, let me know.
- $3
- 2.2 oz
- Features aloe, green tea, cucumber, vitamins A, C, E
- Didn't like the spray on this
- Lasted about an hour in humidity, but longer on a regular day
- 3 stars
- $6 Walmart and Hardcandy.com website
- 2.2 oz
- Lasted several hours, but didn't like the spray on this. Too much at once.
- Smelled the best
- 3.5 stars
L'Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray
- $16.99 (try Walmart for $13.66)
- 3.4 oz
- This is by far my favorite. My makeup lasted in the heat and humidity of Mexico.
- 4.5 stars
- $12.99
- 3.4 oz
- Lasted a few hours
- 3.5 stars
- $7.99
- Really dry and really oily skin might not like this, but it does help to mattify and makeup does stay on for hours
- 3.8 stars
-I also reviewed City Color Makeup Setting Spray for $5 from Five Below. It broke me out, so I discarded it.
What's your favorite drugstore setting spray?
Extra Elle:
Decided to spend the day at the pool and it was much needed.
nice roundup! i like all the price points too. i don't use a setting spray since i don't wear foundation or concealer but i do spray with mario badescu rosewater spray just because it's so nice! i like the habit i've formed ha

I am going to try the NYX one. For some reason my makeup setting sprays are leaving my makeup too dewy and I end up looking like a grease ball. Thanks for thee reviews Elle!

ReplyDeleteI'm bummed the E.L.F. spray was a let down, but need to check out the L'Oreal spray. If it holds up in Mexico it's definitely a winner <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
What about NYX Dewy Setting Spray? I had my eyes on that one, have you tried that?
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity

I've been meaning to try the wet n wild one! Glad to know you like it. The Loreal one is my favorite too, I have the maybelline one but I'm not a huge fan
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to look at the price points of all these drugstore setting sprays. I guess you get what you pay for with the ELF since it's only $3! I will have to look into the L'Oreal when I need more spray, that's awesome it held up with the humidity in Mexico!

These sound great! I will have to check some of them out. Glad you got some good pool time!

Right now I'm using Urban Decay's setting spray, but the L'Oreal brand sounds awesome! I need to check it out!
ReplyDeleteThis is everything! I have been looking for a review like this! I currently use Urban Decay but am not super happy for the price and so this is perfect! Thanks so much:)
ReplyDeleteBesides my Urban Decay ones, I have the WnW one and like it but now I wanna try the L'Oreal Infallible and Nyx ones! Thanks for sharing Elle!
ReplyDeleteI just use my toner as a setting spray.

Ooo, nice list! I bought the e.l.f. one because setting spray isn't something I want to spend a lot of money on. This is awesome to have because I wasn't that impressed with it.
ReplyDeleteI have never used a setting spray. Thanks for sharing!

Yessssss thank you for this! I have been wanting to try a setting spray (drugstore because I'm poor/cheap) and now I might have to grab the Loreal one!
ReplyDeleteI used to file this under "not needed" but summer has made me change my tune! I want to try the Wet N Wild because I like the price, but maybe I'll go for the L'Oreal... we'll see.
ReplyDeleteoh phew i'm glad you didn't at least hate the nyx one, as i have that at home haha. i am trying not to shop at the moment so that one will have to do until i can buy the loreal one that was your fave. good for you for spending the day at the pool, i would totally not mind doing that today lol
ReplyDeleteI've only tried the Elf one from this list, but I wasn't super impressed with it so it just sits on my shelf, haha! I probably should pass it on to someone else who might want to try it. I'd be curious to try the L'Oreal Infallible one since I like their foundation!
ReplyDeleteGreat roundup today! I love that the drugstore has so many finishing spray options now. I've been a loyal user of the NYX one for sometime now, but I want to try the Wet and Wild and Maybelline ones, too.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a setting spray before, but with the humidity in NC I need to! I think I'll try the L'Oreal one that you really liked.
ReplyDeletexo,
Angela
These products sound fab, I have never tried a setting spray but after your post I am going to :)

I have the NYX dewy setting spray and I really find it helps my makeup last longer. I'm huge fan of the L'Oreal one too, although I'm not sure if the formula is the same here in the uk, the packaging is completely different. xx
ReplyDeleteLPage Beauty
The L'oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray must be really good if it was able to stand up to the heat and humidity in Mexico! Thanks for this roundup Elle!
ReplyDeleteI have never before tried a setting spray as I always assume I have to spend a ridiculous amount of money one a high end one; I didn't realise how many were available from the drugstore! I will definitwely have to try one now, the NYX one looks especially nice. Lovely post, it really opened my eyes to what's out there ♥
ReplyDeleteFloralsAndCoralsx
Ive never tried a setting spray before! I think I may try that NYX one! Sounds awesome!

I have tried the ELF and the L'Oreal sprays...definitely think the L'oreal is a good one for sure! But I still prefer my UD Deslick or All-Nighter!

If I run out before my trip to Jamaica, looks like I'll be trying the L'Oreal one!
ReplyDeleteI've tried the ELF Makeup Mist & Set and thought it was okay, but I'd like to try something else.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to find a drugstore spray that I really love. I have the L'Oreal one, but I don't really like it. I swear by Urban Decay De-Slick and I really like the Makeup Forever Mist & Set too.
ReplyDeleteNice list Elle! I have the Wet N Wild Picture Perfect Setting Spray and the Maybelline MasterFix Wear Boosting Setting Spray. I really like both setting sprays so far!
ReplyDeleteOut of these I will probably be able to get the L´Oréal Infallible one. Will look for it next time I am at the drugstore.
ReplyDeleteLinda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking
Lovely post, and I would love to see its dewy version indeed! The L'Oréal Infaillible Makeup Extender Setting spray sounds extremely promising!
ReplyDeletehttp://fannyanddailybeauty.com
I didn't know about these settings sprays, I thank you for showing them! I use one from Urban Decay sometimes, but considering the price and benefits of drugstore sprays, I am eager to get one, especially the L'Oreal Infallible, since you said it's your favorite!
ReplyDeleteDenisesPlanet.com
I've been interested in many of these! Sounds like I need to try the L'Oreal Setting spray!
ReplyDeletei've been wanting to get a setting spray. i have a dewy one from tony moly and a mattifying one as well, but they are just ok.
ReplyDeleteI don't really use setting spray for my makeup! But thanks for the recommendation :)
ReplyDeleteOh Dear Bumblebees
Ok, I'm sold. Defo need this in the humid climes of Singers... Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so gonna check out that Loreal setting spray! Hadn't heard of it before your post. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm going to have to go buy the Loreal setting spray! Great post, lady!
ReplyDeleteXox Dana Ivy // www.iadorewhatilove.com --> PS new posts on my blog everyday this week =)
I haven't worn a setting spray in ages but I think I need to pick one up! Great review.
ReplyDeleteHard Candy has another one now in white packaging that is marketed as a primer and a setting spray. The one above broke me out. I'm sensitive to anything with cucumber extract in it. Weird. Anyway, the white packaging one from Hard Candy is really good too! You should pick it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews! I wasn't impressed with L'Oreal's :/ I also didn't like the spray of e.l.f's. But my favorite of the bunch is NYX mattifying. It definitely helps mattify so can dry your skin if you don't moisturize properly.
