Time for another DUPE OR NOT? And I get asked about Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation VS L'Oreal True Match Lumi A LOT since there's a popular Pinterest pin about it. These foundations are best for dry to normal skin, and for those who want a light-medium coverage with a dewy finish. Both of these are actually my favorite high end and drugstore foundations, but I'd always considered them to be different. But are they really? Let's find out:
L'Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup
- $11-$13
- Drugstores, ULTA, Walmart, Target, etc/online
- 15 shades
- 1 oz
- $62 (but there is a $42 travel size)
- Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus/online
- 24 shades
- 1 oz
Swatches of both--since I have a few shades of the L'Oreal, I decided to use a different shade so I could tell the difference in swatches, just in case!
This was after shaking my hand around--the Armani is slightly thinner, but is more pigmented.
The pic on your left has 1 pump. L'Oreal on your left, Armani on your right. You can see the coverage is better with the Armani Luminous Silk. The pic on your right is with two pumps, same order. No primer was used. They look similar in pictures but it is more noticeable in person.
I tested them side-by-side with primer, without, using fingers, using sponge, using brushes, using a stippling method, using a brushing method. My results mimicked the same as the picture above.
What They Have In Common:
- 1 oz
- pump
- glass container (Armani is frosted)
- some similar ingredients (click the links for each to see them)
How They Differ:
- price
- shade range
- I like the Armani dark cap as it hides the sometimes messy pump.
- Armani has better coverage and a nicer finish.
Not So Professional Opinions:
- BFF: Oh YEAH you can tell, girl. This side (L'Oreal) looks greasy. This side (Armani) looks better. I told her it's supposed to be GLOWY and LUMINOUS. ;)
- 6 yr old: You're not making me do this again, are you?
- 2 yr old: Spaghetti now, okay?
Overall:
- They aren't dupes. They are similar though. If you're looking for a luminous, dewy foundation, you can't go wrong with either. They do look similar in pictures but different in person. While I prefer the Armani (MY FAVE), it is too pricey for me to wear daily.
What dupe would you like to see compared next?
Extra Elle:
- You would think after a week in Cancun I'd be sick of Mexican food, but apparently not as I had it twice this weekend!
- I'm at my day job really, really early today, so I'll be catching up on comments tonight!
i think the finish with the Armani one is so nice - didn't know they had a travel size, so that would be worth it for bigger occasions! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comparisons Elle! Both sound like really good products. I try to look for cost friendly brands of makeup as well because the high end makeup can get pretty costly to wear on a daily basis lol!
ReplyDeleteI love a dewy finish, but good to know that the Armani is better. It looks so pretty on your skin! Glad you had a great time in Cancun, and can you ever be over Mexican food. I don't think so!

Love these dupe or not posts! I have been so curious about the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, too bad the L'Oreal isn't a dupe. But good to know they are both good options!

Both look great on you in pictures, but I believe you when you say you can see the difference in person. I am not into dewy finishes, so I don't think I would get much use out of either of them.

Sounds like it is worth splurging on the Armani one then for those that can afford it! X

My older sis uses the Armani one and loves it, but yeah....that price tho...TBH, I rather prefer the matte finish for foundations, but these both sound lovely. The L'Oreal one, for that price, sounds ok to me:D
ReplyDeleteI can never be sick of Mexican food, so good! And glad to hear your review on the two. I'm not really a huge fan of dewy foundations since I tend to be on the oily side. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great comparison! I can't believe the difference in price so I would have to go for the dupe.

The Armani finish is so flawless! But for the price, I might try the L'Oreal. I love the non-professional opinions!

Awesome review, and how cute that the 6 year old asked if you were making her do this again! Luminous and glowy instead of greasy is definitely worth the extra $$! And you can never be sick of Mexican food - always a great idea <3

Love these reviews and comparisons!! I think it's important to know the difference in foundations especially. Hope it's a fantastic Monday for you!!
ReplyDeleteMan, I wish it was a dupe for that price difference - OUCH!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great review. My friend swears by the Armani foundation. I have always wanted to try it but the price. I'm afraid if I try it because I don't want to fall in love with it. It's so pricey for foundation.
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful! Hope you had a great weekend!

I see a difference with the coverage in the first pic and that is something I am always looking for. Good to know! Maybe someday I will try that Armani foundation because it is always GORGEOUS on you!
ReplyDeleteBoth look great :D Thanks for sharing :)

I can definitely see the difference. The Armani has more coverage for sure. I just bought the Lumi last week to try out and it just doesn't work with my skin.It felt greasy on me too and not enough coverage. Any suggestions? My current favs are the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte. I have tried Ready Set Gorgeous which is OK but the color I don't love. I also like the Milani Foundation and Concealer in one. I used to wear the Rimmel Stay Matte but I don't know how I feel about that one anymore. I have a Revlon Colorstay but I don't think the color is right. I've also tried the MUFE Mat Velvet, MUFE HD, KVD Lock It, and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea. I prefer drugstore because high end gets pretty expensive!
ReplyDeleteGood to know the Armani one has a travel size. When I saw this I had my fingers crossed that it was a dupe but no such luck! I want to find a good dupe of this one or the lingerie de peau! I can never get sick of Mexican food either, it is my fave.
ReplyDeleteI can really tell a difference in your side by side pictures. The coverage of the Armani is better. Thanks for doing the comparison!
ReplyDeleteThey really do look very similar on, and I don't think that I could stomach paying $62 for a foundation. I'd probably choose the L'Oreal for more everyday wear. I always love your product comparisons!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try the Armani one, but could never stomach the price tag. I used to live the Lumi, until the Cushion Lumi came out. I love that stuff if I want something super light weight and easy to wear! I also love the original True match formula on days I need something a little more matte. (:
ReplyDeleteWow, you look gorgeous with both but I can't believe how much more coverage on the right one! Great review, girl!
ReplyDeleteI think you look great in both pictures but I can see what you mean about coverage. I haven't tried either of these but I did grab the Loreal Lumi Cushion last week and I am loving it so far! Mmmm I want Mexican food!!! The two year old sounds on my wave length saying its time for food now. Hahah!
ReplyDeleteI love it when you include opinions from the little 6 year old!! I always smile, and I laughed at what the 2 year old said haha!!
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Loreal one but I love more coverage and my skin seemed too oily for it. The luminous silk sounds nice, but ugh on the price! I bet it's totally worth it though. And girl I could never get sick on Mexican food lol!
The Armani side looks so nice! If only it wasn't so pricey...
ReplyDeleteI can see the difference in results but I still like how the L'Oreal look turned out from the picture. I can't tell that it's greasier.
ReplyDeleteBy the photo I can tell a huge difference and prefer the Armani. That is a HUGE price difference, though. Love the BFF, 6 yr old and 2 yr old thoughts! Lol!

All my friends love, love Armani. And well, now I can see why..!
ReplyDeleteI heard about Armani being dewy, so I wanted it, but I have too many foudations and end up not wearing much. If I wear them 3 times a week it's even too much, so for the price of Armani, I will pass, though I think it's better than the L'Oreal one, talking about coverage. The Lumi one I have too, and it's fine! But now I am curious about the Armani one :)
ReplyDeleteDenisesPlanet.com
I very rarely wear make up but that Armani foundation looks great.. way out of my budget but really smooth
ReplyDeleteI have not tried these at all, but I do see the difference with Armani, and a friend of mine uses it and loves it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm Back with Delicious Details!
I've been wanting to try the Loreal Lumi, and I love light-to-medium coverage foundations that are dewy, so I'm going to try it! Right now I'm using a tinted moisturizer (Aveeno) and it's just not quite enough coverage.
ReplyDeleteLuminous Silk is my all time favourite foundation! The L'Oreal one sounds good for everyday wear though! xx

Haha! I love the kid commentary. ;) Thanks for the review! Good to know!
ReplyDeleteOK, the Armani one better be a little better for that price. I will stick to the L'Oreal one for one 5th of the price. Most of my foundations I have used in my life have been from drug stores and most of them have been quite great.
ReplyDeleteI love the GA foundation. It's a beauty. I'm intrigued to try the L'Oreal foundation though. I really don't like the original True Match, I find it too drying on me so this may work a lot better. I've also kinda got my eye on the cushion one though.
