Long Live Skin Event Plus Q&A With Jaime King

When do you wear sunscreen? Is it just during the summer? Only at the beach or pool? This recap of a fab event for sun protection awareness and an interview with actress Jaime King has some great info that we all can find useful. Check it out:

THE EVENT:

Thursday, June 23, 2016, NEUTROGENA® Event Ambassador, Jaime King attended the fun and interactive Long Live Skin event in Philadelphia, PA.

THE PURPOSE:

To raise awareness of the need for sun protection regardless of the season, weather or geographical location and emphasize the importance of wearing daily SPF as well as protecting children from the dangers of the sun at a young age

Sought-after actress and mom of two Jaime King answered some questions on the importance of sun safety.

Q&A WITH JAIME KING:

Why is sun safety important to you?

Sun safety was always engrained in me. My mother was ahead of the game in sun protection and making us wear sunscreen at a time when there really wasn’t the awareness there is today. If we were in the sun, we were always protected. Skin cancer runs in my family, my father has it, so for me it’s
something that is very important to me especially since it’s the most preventable form of cancer. Also, sunscreen also prevents fine lines, wrinkles and brown spots and keeps your skin looking great.

How do you fit sunscreen into your beauty routine?

People always ask me what my top beauty tips are and I always say sunscreen and water, so it’s easy to fit sunscreen into my beauty routine. Also, all of my makeup has sunscreen in it, but I always do double duty! You need to apply a sunscreen first and then apply your makeup with SPF.

Do you wear sunscreen every day?

I apply sunscreen every day. People think if it’s cloudy out you don’t have to apply sunscreen, but that is just not true and when the biggest mistakes happen. I also apply it to my kids every day. The minute they get up before they put their clothes on, we put on sunscreen. It’s a routine, just like brushing their teeth. I also think it’s important to lead by example. Not only do they see me applying it on them, but they see me applying it to myself.

Which NEUTROGENA® products would you recommend for a mom?

NEUTROGENA® Ultra Sheer® Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 100+ is perfect! When you’re a mom, you are running around with your head cut off half the time. The product is so easy and weightless, so you won’t look crazy with white streaks running down your face and you’ll stay protected. It’s one less thing to worry about.

What are your favorite NEUTROGENA® products for your kids?

I love NEUTROGENA® Pure & Free® Baby sunscreen because it protects them from the sun without harsh chemicals and it doesn’t run and sting their eyes.

What is your number one Sun Care Tip?

Consistency and reapplying throughout the day! Especially with my kids, I like to reapply every 30 minutes and there are such great products available now that make it easy to do.

How do you make applying sunscreen a fun activity for your kids?

My son loves putting on his sunscreen, he puts it on himself. He uses the NEUTROGENA® sunscreen sticks and it’s like a fun painting project.

What’s in Your Beach Bag?

First and foremost sunscreen – that’s a no brainer. I don’t carry much in my bag because I don’t love getting sand in it, but I always have books and headphones. I also always wear a hat and sunglasses to protect my scalp and behind my ears.

Neutrogena products can be purchased at CVS.

Still not convinced to wear sunscreen daily, regardless of the season/weather? Check out these statistics:

NEUTROGENA® SUNSCREEN STATISTICS:

· On average, more than 350 Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every hour - even though skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers

· According to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), consumers often do not get the UV protection stated on the sunscreen label because they grossly under-apply, using less than half the recommended amount

· Just 1-2 severe sunburns can increase the risk of melanoma by 40%

· Only 40% of US households purchase sunscreen (only 37% women and 16% men use sunscreen regularly)

  4. Could not love this post more, especially after some really bad burns growing up and now living in the south I find it extremely important to practice safe sun! Love that "Lemon Breeland" is helping get the message out! Have fun at your hair appointment, can't wait to see how it comes out <3

  5. It still surprises me when people complain about wearing sunscreen! I swear by it! I'd rather be fair than go tanning! And you can still get color with sunscreen on. I love the ultra sheer dry touch, as well as coppertone oil free sunscreen :)

  6. I'm good about wearing sunscreen when I know I'm going to be outside all day, but I'm not great about putting it on daily. My face moisturizer and CC cream have sunscreen in them, but I don't put anything on the rest of my body, and I know I should. I need to work on that!

  9. I burn super easy so I've always worn sunscreen, even if I'm just in the car with the windows down! I use the neutrogena ultra sheer dry touch one too! It's one of the only sun screens that doesn't leave me greasy and smelling like spf!

  10. I wear sunscreen every day, at least on my face. And if my arms and legs are out, I protect them as well. Only my hands get neglected.

  11. I usually tan pretty well but ALWAYS burn at least once or twice a summer first. I know how bad this can be. I have been ALOT better about putting higher SPFS on at the beach for sure. I should definitely check to see if my moisturizers and makeup have SPF because I really don't know...

  12. I am very much an advocate for sunscreen!!! being burnt is so painful and no fun. Plus, no one has time for skin cancer or looking like a leather handbag!

  16. This event must have been very good and Jamie King helped to raise attention to the need of using sunscreen. I didn't know the statistics about skin cancer in the USA and that 1 -2 sunburns can increase the risk of melanoma in 40%; I have some allergy against sun, due to my skin color and the fact that there was skin cancer in my family, leads me to be very careful; I have many tubes of sunscreen and one of them is Neutrogena :)

  17. this post totally speaks to me. I am completely diligent about sunscreen at the beach or pool plus a hat and sunglasses. however, recently I found a little sunspot on my face, so I'm thinking what the heck right?? it must be from daily sun. I've been looking for a daily SPF to wear and neutrogena is one of the contenders!

  18. My little 3 year old is so diligent about sunscreen. This post has some great points about applying it all over after getting dressed. That's a great idea! i need to be better about getting my whole body, not just my face.

  19. You are totally right. None of the information in this post is totally new to me... but I put on sunscreen religiously in Arizona when it was sunny. Now that I live in Washington, I haven't touched the stuff!

  24. Definitely need sunscreen in Singapore! Now that I'm older, I wish I had taken better care of my face when I was younger. Sigh. That dress that Jamie King is wearing, oh my. I actually really like it!

  25. this is so cool! i love jaime king :) she's so fabulous. i wear sunscreen all the time, i rarely burn anymore because i just don't give myself the opportunity to - i don't lay out, i never go without sunscreen, etc etc. of course, no amount of sunscreen stopped me burning on the cruise though, which i was very unhappy about but what can you do!

  26. This looks like it was such a fun event. I do not play around when it comes to protecting my skin from the sun. I wear SPF under and sometimes in my makeup every day and I never go out in the sun unless it's absolutely necessary. My family (both sides) has a long history of skin cancer and my dad has had 2 minor surgeries and possibly will have to have a third one and I don't want to deal with that. I'll proudly rock my pale skin any day!

  27. Awesome! I love Jaime King! And I definitely wear sunscreen ALL the time. And I load it on for the pool/beach. I've had some skin cancers scares so no thank you sunburns!
