I picked this one up out of curiosity--would it be any good or is a celeb name slapped on there but lacking in quality? I've been using the Kylie Jenner The Bronze Palette for the past week. You've seen in on my social media--any pics of me lately have me wearing it--and since her Kyshadows palette (klever!) is in high demand, I decided to share my review.
Price: $42
Purchase: Kyliecosmetics.com (Currently sold out)
What's In It? 9 shadows: 2 satin, 7 matte in neutral (bronze) shades
-No parabens, no talc, cf as far as I know (please don't attack the messenger)
Here's the outside of the palette. It's a bit smaller than I expected, but not tiny. It has a white, slick cardboard packaging with magnetic closure. Most high-end brands have at least one palette with this packaging, so I don't see this as a big deal.
I do wish it had a mirror inside.
Jasper, Quartz, Topaz Goldstone, Citrine, Tiger Eye Hematite, Bronzite, Obsidian |
These are .05 ounces each, so it's about $4.66 per shadow. That's not bad considering MAC is the same size and is $6 per shadow.
The swatches didn't photograph as vivid as I'd hoped, no matter what lighting I tried, but be assured they are vivid, minus the 2 lightest shades, since they are close to my skin tone.
These are brush swatches, since I don't apply shadows generally with my fingers.
The texture of these is soft, not gritty, and not powdery. There is little kick back on 2 of the shadows.
As far as dupes go, I couldn't find any exact in my collection, but I had several shades that were similar. That's to be expected since they are neutrals! Here's a similar-looking palette by Shaaanxo, but they are nothing alike in person or swatched.
And here's a video I made where I go into more detail--in 7 minutes!
Overall, a great palette, surprisingly. Nice medium buildable coverage. If you have lots of neutral palettes, there's no need to get this one, but I do like the palette and it works well for travel.
Extra Elle:
- I've joined the trend with the metal tumblers--like the Yeti--but I have the $10 knock off version. It works SO well! I tested it on Snapchat! #Ozark!!
- I've also been loving my YSL Lip Creams I got last month--mine are engraved with my name and the colors are pretty.
- Happy belated anniversary to my mom and step-dad. I've got vacation-brain (where I forget the date), so I forgot until late last night! Love y'all and see you soon!
I am always curious about celeb products - so happy to have you do the footwork and give us a great review!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colours of this. I know celeb palettes always get slated but its obvious that Kylie is genuinely interested in makeup... that always gives me a little more faith!

I'm with you a mirror for that price included would have been nice!! I like a few of the colors, but not enough I dont think to buy the palette - her lip products on the other hand - give them to me LOL! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review on this palette! I always want to know if products like this live up to the hype.

That palette is so cute but definitely should include a mirror! The shades are so pretty!

I like how usable the palette seems with colors that works for everyday! And hear you regarding the mirror too, would have made a nice adding! Xx

I love all the neutral colors in this! Thanks for sharing this palette!

I had no idea she released a palette too after all the commotion over her lipkits. These colors are beautiful, and love the neutrals!
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
I like the more neutral shades too. I always wonder about these celebrity products, good to know you liked this one. Minus the mirror! Looks like some pretty shades!

A Blonde's Moment
It's strange that these appear pretty muted in photos, but are actually pretty vibrant in real life. It's a great mix of neutral shades, which I love!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comparison with the other palettes, Elle! I did think this Kylie palette was the same as the Viseart one I was eyeing, but good to know they're different. Too bad this is always sold out...I'd so buy it in a heart beat!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review - gotta check it out asap!
ReplyDeleteI’m excited to start a two-peat collaboration with Los Angeles-based brand TOBI this week at the blog via a sexy outfit – come check it out & lemme know what you think!
Happy Wednesday!

I do like the colors! And the packaging is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI am all about those neutral colors.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at the price of the Kylie products though. People will pay it just because of the name. Crazy.
kylie strikes again! i am not surprised. i am not an eyeshadow person and don't wear it but i just love the colors in this one if i were to. a nice variety!
ReplyDeletexoxo cheshire kat
No mirror? That is a travesty at that price! I really like the variety of colors in this one. Happy Anniversary to mom and stepdad!
ReplyDeleteI have heard decent things about this palette and her lip pencils so I would say overall a decent brand! I ordered the $10 Ozark a few weeks ago too and am obsessed and take it everywhere with me. Who needs to spend $40 when the $10 does the same thing?!?!?! It's actually in my post for Friday haha!
ReplyDeleteI personally don't buy anything from Kylie or Jeffery Star because I'm not a fan of them so they're not getting my money. I might get Shaaanxo's palette though, it's pretty.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.I don't know why but this palette just didn't interest me. It may just be because of the stuff I've seen about her lip products. I may just not like the brand. I am glad that these are atleast decent quality.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that these palettes are good quality! I'm with Shireen and don't buy Kylie not because I don't like her, but feel like there are already great established brands with great products too!

I tend to go for the neutrals, so I think I'd get a lot of use out of this palette. Although you know me, I'm too cheap to pay that much...sigh. Thanks for the great review though!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely should have a mirror. Glad its good quality tho. Ive heard good things about her lip stains as well.
ReplyDeleteAlso happy anniversary to your mum and step dad :)
I've heard that Kylie Cosmetics are surprisingly great (for her being a celeb) so I"m definitely inclined to try some out! Great review Elle!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool you can analyze handwriting! I will admit I am not a fan of the family, but i wouldn't let that keep me from buying make up if it is good. Thanks for the review on these shadows!
ReplyDeleteI wish it had a mirror too. I've been trying to avoid the hype of Kylie Cosmetics, but I'm fading. I really want to try one of the lip kits. I don't wear eye shadow much so I think I'm going to skip on this. I bought the Ozark tumbler you have and I LOVE it. Great recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I need to get on the Kylie Jenner makeup train! Everybody seems to love her products, and they always give her such good reviews. I definitely would want a mirror on the inside of the palette too!
ReplyDeleteI think this palette is gorgeous. I do have the shannnxo palette, and since it's similar I'll skip this one. I actually like the packaging, but I do think a mirror could have been included. I've never been a fan of the kardashians, so I haven't really felt the need to buy their products, but if I didn't own the Shannxo palette then I'd probably consider getting this one. Off to watch your video soon!
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty palette, but I agree that the colors aren't anything that I don't already own. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteThe one I really love about Kylie's line is the packaging. I have not tried them yet but I would buy them for the packaging alone.

If I got paid to blog, I would review ALL the things too. But this palette just doesn't wow me...and I HATE that it's SO damn hard to get any of her products. Maybe her other palettes will be a bit more interesting.

Pretty colors, but it doesn't excite me as much as others I've seen. I was intrigued by her bronze eyeliner...but not for that price. I couldn't commit, haha! YES to the Ozark...my husband got one a few weeks ago and is raving about it to anyone and everyone that will listen!
ReplyDeleteI love her lip products, so I was so curious about the eye shadows! The colors are so pretty!
ReplyDeletexo,
Angela
I think I'm more impressed with the shaaanxo palette, I got that recently, don't think I'll get the kylie one but it is pretty though http://maybemayhemmakeup.blogspot.com.au/
ReplyDeleteThat is funny I just got a ozark
ReplyDeleteI watched your video during my lunch break, it was very informative! I'm one of these people who can't stand the K family so it's a pass for me.

Nice shades...Love your video.

I love neutral eyeshadow palettes. Really want to add this palette to my collection.
ReplyDeleteI snagged the bronze palette and really like it so far! I'm a sucker for a warm nudes palette, that's for sure. :)

Le Stylo Rouge
Yes this palette definitely would be better with a mirror! I love how you break it down to the cost per shadow. Thanks for the review Elle!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you managed to snag one! Didn't they sell out in one minute?! I have yet to purchase anything from Kylie Cosmetics. I like her, I just don't "need" another neutral palette. I'm not a beauty blogger, so it would just be another to add to my everyday bunch. lol I do really like the front packaging!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should get over it, but I just can't bring myself to buy anything Kardashian. I can feel my gag reflex right now. That being said, Kylie was brought into this TV world at a young age, so she's definitely one I don't really blame...
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of kardashian anything - but girl, your eyes look gorg!! xx
ReplyDeleteLoved the colors, they are simply lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty, natural beauty :*
I really like the shades, but won't invest in this palette. I'm using too little makeup lately to justify the purchase. But Xmas is getting closer, eh.. :D
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to get behind Kylie Cosmetics - mostly because I know there are so many other brands that provide better color pay off and quality at a better price point. I actually love the colors in this Kyshadow palette (I'm a sucker for neutrals), but for that price I would recommend people invest in Kat Von D's Shade & Light Eye Palette instead. THAT, you can guarantee the quality is superb.
ReplyDeletePS - For some reason I laughed out loud when I read "klever!"

I love those colors on you! I always love a mirror in all of my palettes, too!
ReplyDeleteThe colours in the palette are beautiful. I can see this working out easily as a everyday palette.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! Thanks for the post. Very pretty colors.
