Cushion foundations are popping up in drugstores, and I'm a huge fan. Maybelline released their cushion foundation this month (review here) and I wanted to compare it to L'Oreal's version. Neither have SPF, by the way.

The packaging is pretty much the same on the inside and out, as they are made in the same place.
The coverage is better on the Maybelline, pictured left, but both give sheer-medium coverage. L'Oreal is on your right.
I've applied Maybelline to one side (left) and L'Oreal to the other (right). I'm wearing the Zooeva Cocoa palette that I won from Zoe's blog, by the way!
And here's a shot of them both, and it's hard to tell the difference, isn't it?
I'm using lighting here to demonstrate the luminous aspect.
So which was better?
This really depends on your preference. I felt like Maybelline had better coverage but definitely showed my fine lines more on my dry skin. They both lasted the same amount of time, and I wasn't able to get a full day of wear. I like them both, but personally, I like L'Oreal more. I have compared these to compacts from Lancome, Sulwhasoo, and Laniege and found the two I reviewed to be different from those, but similar to one from Amore Pacifc.
Have you tried these? Which is your fave?
Extra Elle:
I went a little crazy in the dollar section of Target for Valentine's Day stuff. They get me every time!
I can't believe we had snow on the ground still on Monday and 70 by Friday.
Target has the cutest dollar items for V-day!! I really want it all right now. I have never tried cushion foundation, so i will have to try it out.

I haven't tried these two, Elle, but they do sound pretty good. I have a Missha one that I got that I still have to try out.
ReplyDeletethey look super similar! prob comes down to brand preference :) i love the target dollar section too! addiction central

I've never heard of "Cushion foundatin"... makes me think of the old cake pans my mom used to use. That stuff was SO THICK!!!!
ReplyDeleteYES to the Target Dollar Spot, especially for fun festive gear! I'm super intrigued by the cushion foundation, I'll have to check out Maybelline's <3

You definitely can't really tell the difference between these two on which is great! I still haven't tried a cushion foundation but you have me intrigued! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
ReplyDeleteThis is a great comparison, Elle. I was just investigating cushion foundations because I was interested in trying one. I probably would have similar results with the Maybelline because of my dry skin too. Might have to check out the L'Oreal! Yes, the Target dollar section gets me everytime, especially during holidays. I need to go see all the cute Valentine's Day stuff, thanks for the reminder!

NEW POST: MY STYLE FOR A SHOPPING DAY (WITH HIM)
I love my cushion compacts and have been curious about Western releases so this was enlightening. We're having similarly crazy weather in NYC as well.
ReplyDeleteThis weather really is so crazy! It's so crazy how almost the same product can have such different coverages!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either. I prefer more coverage so I would probably like the Maybelline more. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletei'm yet to try either of these products yet they look lovely on you. great post!

I've not tried the Maybelline one but absolutely LOVED the loreal one. As I'm someone with dry skin and I do have quite a few fine lines I probably wont be buying the Maybelline one so thank you for warning me! My one gripe is that you don't get ANY product in them. They literally last 10 uses max and then all the product is gone, such a shame because I was such a fan of the Loreal one! xx

Love this brand, great post dear! <3 - http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try these, but I just prefer a little more coverage. I love the luminosity of them. They look gorgeous on your skin!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a cushion foundation before! I'm afraid that I would want more coverage, but I've been tempted to try them because I've been into more natural makeup lately and don't wear it very often anymore. Both of these look great on you skin, Elle! thanks for comparing them!
ReplyDeleteThese sound amazing! I have been wanting to try the cushion foundation!

I haven't tried these yet, but I have the Lancome one at home and I really like it! But as Lancome and Maybelline are both part of the L'Oreal group, I think these 3 foundations are probably quite similar, so I'm sure I will love them!
ReplyDeleteI love the coverage of the Maybelline one, I just wish their shade range would extend to paler and darker skin tones!

I love my L'oreal cushion foundation!
ReplyDeleteI loved the L'Oréal one but for the price, it only lasted about a month if regular use fir me. I'd rather have my Estes double wear that averages the same $$ because a bottle lasts a few months.
ReplyDeleteI want to try a cushion foundation, but I know my skin is too oily for the luminous ones. Can we matte, full coverage?! I think the concept is so cool.
ReplyDeleteEverything that says luminous, like Maybelline, and Lumi, like L'Oreal, I tend to like :) True, Maybelline has better coverage, but I like L'Oreal, almost like a BB cream, if I dare to say. And the prices are nearly the same. Bad that they don't have SPF. I can't believe it, wow, snow one day and 70 by Friday! The weather is really crazy!

I have the L'Oreal one and I really like it, but sadly after a few months of using it almost every day it dried out. So I'll need to get another one.
