Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam Review

Y'all know I am all about the newest beauty gadget or technology--did you see my post on what's new in the beauty world? The product I'm sharing today was on that list!

Celeb hair stylist, Jen Atkin, released her hair care line Ouai last year. It's been mentioned a few times on here. But her Dry Shampoo Foam is what recently caught my attention. Dry? Foam? What? After some testing, I'm here to share what I think.

Where to get it?
Sephora

How much?
$28

Which hair type is it good for?
✔ Straight
✔ Wavy
✔ Curly

What it is:
A waterless cleansing foam to remove oil and product buildup from dry hair.

Key benefits:
- Refreshes hair between washes
- Gently cleanses
- Detangles strands

If you want to know more…
This quick-drying, waterless cleansing foam removes oil, product excess, and buildup. Perfect for second, third, or fourth day hair, it leaves strands feeling cleansed, conditioned, and ready to be re-styled as desired.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens

What else you need to know:
Cruelty-free

How to use it:

Use a pingpong sized amount of foam. The foam itself is waterless and more like shaving cream than a mousse.

Apply to roots and throughout the hair. This will look crazy (see pic above) but it will work.

Rub in the foam throughout hair to disperse it, kind of like you are washing your hair with shampoo. It takes just a minute or so. Let hair dry--this was only in the areas where I put a little too much. It gives some volume once it dries.

My thoughts: the scent is very strong. I smelled it all day. This is a love or hate it scent. I didn't mind it but I was told by others they didn't like the scent. I did apply it throughout my hair, so maybe that's why I could really smell it.

I felt that it really did work, but for my hair type, I didn't really like it. I think if you had oily hair or fine hair it would work better. But for me, I love the idea but will stay with my dry shampoo, sans foam. 3 out of 5 stars

Would you try this dry shampoo foam?

Extra Elle:
I got to be a guest of Pure Taqueria Roswell and celebrated National Margarita Day. Had an excellent night of fun and amazing food.

Physician's Formula featured me (say that three times fast) on their Instagram for National Lash Day!

  3. I use the Ouai salt spray which I love but this is something I have never seen. It's gets me nervous looking at it but since I have fine hair I might give it go. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I like the idea behind this to maybe feel more cleansed that with just a spray. I would worry that if I had straightened my hair the foam would cause some kinks in it, but it doesn't look like you had any issues. Now I am really curious about what the scent is like!

  6. I'm really not a fan of Ouai products! I really want to love them but I don't. The smell is really strong and all their products weigh down my hair. Boo!

  7. I have really fine hair and am always on the lookout for new dry shampoos to try so I think I'll give this one a go - just to see if it does work differently on my very fine hair!

  8. I was curious about the foam aspect of this product so I'm really glad you reviewed it! Not sure if it will work for me now. Ouai products in general tend to be strongly scented.

  9. The common complains about this were it leaves the hair sticky and the scent. I think I'll stick to normal dry shampoo for now. Have you tried the dry shampoo from Verb, Elle?

  10. The picture with it in your hair before it's absorbed made me so nervous! I'm not a fan of highly scented hair products, so I'll probably skip this- but loved this review!

  11. That's so interesting to me. I think I'd do better with that than the spray - could really put the product where I need it the most.

  12. That's so crazy that it's a foam, but it looks like it does a good job! I'm going to have to smell it to see if I'd like it!

  13. Hmmm I think i will skip and stay with spray. I have thick dry hair. Thanks for the review! Congrats on the feature and I hope you enjoyed the margarita!

  14. I would def be interested in trying it out for sure but its kinda pricey considering I use dry shampoo every other day.

  15. I was going to pick this up this weekend! I'm really curious and I actually love the scent of their products, so I'm hoping I'll love that one! PS I LOVE PURE and go there all of the time!

  16. One of the reasons I quit using Batiste was because the smell was just too much all day so I think I will stick to my Living Proof dry shampoo but I am really glad I read this post and got to see it because it is cool sounding but maybe not for me.

  17. Oh wow I've never heard of a dry shampoo like this! It's definitely something I'd love to try!

  18. I’ve been dying to try a dry foaming shampoo! This product looks awesome Elle! Thanks for sharing

  19. Honestly, dry shampoo is such a weird idea to me. I've tried the batiste one and the chemical smell was so strong, I couldn't handle it. So if it has a strong fragrance, I guess I'll pass =). Thanks for your honesty!

  20. I'm definitely going to have to check this out since I have fine hair. I have a hard time finding a dry shampoo that doesn't weigh my hair down. <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  21. I saw something about this on YouTube and I was intrigued. I might would try it now that I know how it works. I wasn't sure how it would absorb. I got a Ouai hair mask in my Sephora box and I love how it smelled. Reminded me of something in Paris but I can't put a finger on just what. I need to go find that Instagram and like it!

  22. Congratulations for the Physician's Formula featuring (say it too, 3 times fast :) I loved that)! And this Ouai Dry Foam shampoo seems to be great! 3 points out of 5 are decent, yes, and I love products with scents - just that I need to know whether it will be a love or hate scent for me! I liked the idea, it would be good for me when once I stayed at a "friend's place" and she didn't allow me to wash my hair for 3 days. I was like "OMG!" That shampoo would have helped me!

  23. WOW, that does seem pretty weird. I haven't tried any of the dry shampoos. My hair has 2 major cowlicks right at my temples so between those and working out everyday I end up just washing it (which I know is not great for my hair). Thanks for testing it and giving your honest opinion. I guess one of these days I should try dry shampoo. I'll borrow my daughters when she's home this summer😉. Happy Friday!

  24. I get so sensitive and annoyed by strong scents so I may have to steer clear, but I've been quite intrigued by the foam formula!

  25. Great review and good to know! The foam concept sounds interesting but dry shampoos are always a hit or miss. Batiste has been the only one that works for me. I'd love to try out this one but not for $28 unless they offer a travel size.

  26. Ooh I have never heard of a dry shampoo foam before so I would be intrigued to give this a try. It would have to work wonders for the price though so it would be great if they did a smaller version to test out first x

  27. I really want to try this! I know what you mean about the scent, I love the shampoo and conditioner scent but I have the texturising hair spray and it's not my favourite!

  28. I have heard of this brand before... but this seems like quite a pricey product! I think I might be skipping this one.

  29. It looks really cool, and with my very fine, oily hair, it should work! The price is a little high, so I might try to wait for a sale to get it.

  30. I really want to give this a go! I like the LivingProof dry shampoo but I recently bought the one from DryBar to test out. I have yet to find one for brunettes that wow's me. I have normal/oily hair, I have a LOT of hair, but it's fine...you think this will work for me?
