Hey y'all! Thanks first off for the AMAZING RESPONSE to my $200 SEPHORA GIVEAWAY. It's still going strong, and you can enter once a day HERE, so stop on by!
To enter the giveaway, I asked for suggestions on improving ElleSees. Many interpreted the question as to what they'd like to see more of, and my DUPE? posts were highly requested! So today I'm doing just that! This one has been sitting around since last year, and was suggested by a blog reader (I can't find the suggester, so let me know if it's you so I can link to ya). I think it's perfect because it helps to finish up the DUPE? series I've covered on powder highlighters.
Today's DUPE? is comparing the cult-classic MAC Mineralize Skinfinish powder to the NYX #NoFilter finishing powder. Take a look at the pic above--don't they look similar?
Now let's get into details:
A slow-baked powder with 77-Mineral Complex that provides a natural, dimensional finish.
18 shades
light plus is pictured
10 grams, $33
online, MAC stores
delivers a soft and flawless finish
12 shades
light beige is pictured
CF
9.6 grams, $12
online, ULTA, drugstores, some box stores
ingredients listed in link above
Here they are swatched by finger. The MAC MSF is definitely creamier and more pigmented.
Here they are swatched on my arm. I get they are hard to see, but since the powders are supposed to match my skintone, that is why.
On your left is NYX and on your right is MAC--this was taken when I was really sick a couple of months ago, so I apologize for the less-than-great pic of me. In person, I cannot tell a difference. I like the wear time and the finish a little better from MAC, and the fact that it comes with a mirror. I love the MAC quality better. But for the price, you can't beat the $12 NYX #Nofilter finishing powder!
Have you tried either of these?
Do you think it's a dupe?
Extra Elle:
Sorry for not sharing much about life lately, but I am finally, finally feeling better! I'm looking forward to getting out and about into my normal routines! Thanks for being patient with me.
I'm so happy you did this dupe post because I need a finishing powder! I can't tell the difference and I'm definitely going for the dupe! Glad you're feeling better!

Thanks for comparing these too! I am hooked on Kat Von D's finishing powder but maybe will try the NYX one when I'm out.

I'm going to have to try that out - I really love a good finishing powder and the price is certainly right on the Nyx one!

These dupe posts are my favorite, Elle! I honestly can't tell a difference with it on your face, it looks like one powder was used! Interesting about the wear time with the MAC, I feel like that's the only thing ever missing with the dupe products. Have a great weekend, Elle!

I've not tried a finishing powder... Do you think they hold all day? I have a struggle with powder staying on my face for more than an hour.
ReplyDeleteDupe time, yes! I need to pick some of this NYX powder up! And so glad you're feeling better, finally!

ReplyDeleteGreat dupe! xx

I have the Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Medium but I wish I had gone for a lighter shade, maybe I would use it more! The NYX sounds like a great option!

Visually it looks like a dupe to me! A $21 savings is not chump change either ;p
ReplyDeleteI think I would prefer the MAC too, but $12 is vry tempting.

I've been curious about these. How do you think they would work for those of us with oily/combo skin?
ReplyDeleteI love your dupe posts. I would totally try this product... if only I wore makeup lol
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are starting to feel better! And girl, I love your dupe posts so I'm glad you'll be sharing more of them! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried either of these. I cant see a difference in your picture, but I get that you get what you pay for as far as quality and how long it lasts go.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better! For the price, I think I'd go with NYX :)
ReplyDeleteThese are fun posts! It sounds like the NYX would work for the most part, which is great. :) I'm glad you are feeling better.

I'm glad you're starting to feel better Elle! I always love these Dupe? posts and I'm always super excited when the cheaper product ends up being a good one. I may have to try the NYX!
ReplyDeleteI need a new finish powder and didn't want to spend a lot. I am going to put the NYX on my shopping list. Glad you're finally feeling better!

I haven't tried either of these, thanks for sharing! I need to try out more Nyx powders- I do love a good Mac product though!
ReplyDeleteI think it could be a dupe or a great alternative for those who can't afford Mac products! :)

I'm so glad that you're finally feeling better. I've had the MAC highlighter on my wish list for a really long time now. The NYX one sounds good, although I still hope to try the Mineralize Skinfinish one day. Maybe I'll pick up both now? I love dupe posts. Xx

You know that I couldn't wait for this post! I'm glad to hear the NYX powder is decent even if it's not an exact dupe. Glad you're on the mend!
ReplyDeleteWow these look so similar and considering the Nyx is less than half the price. That's awesome! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to try he MAC Mineralize Powder for so long but after reading your post I might give the NYX one a try first before splashing out. I don't use many finishing powders in my makeup routine but I think they could really be useful to me :) x
ReplyDeleteI recently have tried a few things from the NYX brand and have been impressed with the price and quality! Good to know there is another great thing to try!
ReplyDeleteThis fantastic to hear for people who are trying to get ride of brands that test on animals in their collection. It's quite the process, let me tell ya, but seriously I cannot see a difference! Setting powders don't work the best for me, I've had more luck with finishing, but it's awesome to see NYX has some pretty stellar products in their arsenal. I've really only ever purchased a lippie or two from them. (: Thanks Elle!
