12 Months of Resolutions: January's Results + February's Challenge
Something I've done for the past couple of years is to do a different resolution each month. I do this in the hopes that the resolution will stick, since it takes generally 21 days to form a new habit.
For January, I gave up shopping for an entire month!
How did I do?
I nailed it!! I've done this challenge many times before, but this time I did it during those amazing post-holiday sales. Sales and enticement, especially from bloggers, were everywhere! I swear everyday I saw some great post full of sales calling my name. But I resisted. It helped having little treats like Birchbox and MyGlam to help ease it.
Would I do it again?
Yes! I'd like to extend it to twice a year, or at least two consecutive months.
Bonus: I also had a mini-resolution to listen to new-to-me music every day. I did it. Thirty-one new bands gave me plenty to take in.You all gave excellent selections! Thank you. :)
For February, I'm giving up Diet Coke!
So far, so good! Wish me luck!
What is something you'd like to change about yourself?

xo jamie
love the irony & the generosity for the giveaway! thanx girl!
ReplyDeleteGiving up shopping for a whole month, I doubt I could do it. Giving up on the coke would be a lot easier for me since I'm not a big soda drinker, but don't you dare take away my coffee;)
ReplyDeleteSomething I'd like to change about myself...going to bed too late. You've inspired me. I will try harder. Obviously I'll have to start tomorrow night!! hahahaha. Great post. Take care,
ReplyDeleteShauna
Alright, I guess I should have said going to bed earlier. That is what I'd like to change about myself...I need to read before pushing the publish key... :)
ReplyDeleteI seriously don't think I could make due without my Diet Coke...good luck!

I'm down to one DC a week...but give it up? Nope. I just couldn't.
ReplyDeleteomg so impressed that you gave up shopping for a month! I tried and 100% failed at that goal.
ReplyDeleteHooray Elle! I just don't think I could give up shopping, but you did it! :)
ReplyDeleteI also have stopped drinking Diet Coke\any carbonated soft drinks. I've stopped for several months now and never looked back! :)
I am praying for your friend you requested me to pray for. Do you mind telling me her first name? She is on my daily personal prayer list and you are too :)

I'm so glad to hear that you're giving up Diet Coke!! I've heard that w/e chemical is in it can give Multiple Sclerosis like symptons...
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Elle! And good luck on the Feb resolution:)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I also need to start drinking less soda and start exercising again.
ReplyDeleteI would like to make better meals at home. I love to cook, but I have been worn out lately. I need to get back on the horse.
ReplyDeleteGreat for u hun, if u gave up shopping for the whole month I have no doubts u will defeat Diet Coke!;)

My shopping bans never last more than a week haha. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI stopped drinking diet dr pepper, and switched to La Croix, healthier..and that worked so far, 3 months already!
I haven't completely given up soda, but I've cut WAY back and I am so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your resolution this month Elle. I don't drink a lot of soda but I crave it all the time so I bet its hard to give it up for a month when you drink it regularly !
ReplyDeleteGood grief! I don't think I could give up diet Coke. Good luck. :)
ReplyDeleteIt takes a lot of will power to give up shopping! But I know how you feel...I'm doing a year abroad in France and when I was saving to come here I didn't spend anything more than money for groceries for an entire six months. It was slightly torturous but its payed off!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I've been packing for the move lately and just discovered how much stuff I have. I think my focus will be on simplifying my life and paying attention to what really counts and what I really need
ReplyDeletei like the idea of doing these monthly resolutions. it's a great way to challenge yourself!
ReplyDeletegood luck with no diet coke (i personally hate it, so this would be an easy resolution for me, lol).
also, diggin' your braided headband look in the previous post.
Great job with your resolution!! Can't wait to see how you do this month. Diet Coke might be a tough one. Good luck!
ReplyDeletegood for you and best of luck with the no diet coke goal!
ReplyDeleteYou have way more will power than me! I am not a huge shopper where I drop loads of money every week but it is so hard for me not to buy all the piddly little stuff. Then you move onto Diet Coke which is a MAJOR obsession of mine!! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteYay for you! Hard to give up Diet Coke...but you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI like your take on resolutions. It seems so much less daunting to commit to a month rather than a whole year. Then you can allow yourself to extend the resolution as you wish!
ReplyDeleteBrava! I took some time off after finishing up my holiday shopping, but I couldn't resist a little Jcrew dress!
ReplyDeleteI would give up eating rice, I know it seems so easy. But every day I eat rice! It's a challenge to think of a meal without it.
ReplyDeleteYou totally rock and inspire me! I was doing well on my resolutions until recently. Fallen off the wagon a bit but not totally. Now it's just time to get back on. And I'm actually looking forward to it. :)

I need to re-evaluate on my goals for the year! I'm proud of your no shopping! I rocked it too :) I'm doing it once a quarter. I think it's going to make a huge difference!
ReplyDeleteI seriously love that idea! A new resolution a month! I have heard that it takes three weeks for a new habit to stick, and this is the perfect way to keep improving yourself w/o being overwhelmed by the idea of giving up something for a whole year!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

Congratulations on achieving January's goal, you are truly motivated! After doing so well with it and proving your determination, I am sure February's resolution will be much easier to achieve.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Elle! :D

wow you go girl!! That's awesome!! Well done for sticking to your goal!!xx
ReplyDeleteThis is such a neat idea. To give up something for a month and make it! I will definitely have to make a deicision before March and pick a resolution!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's great. I love the idea of month to month resolutions. Seems much more do-able :)
ReplyDeleteGood job girly! I assume it was no shopping just for extras, not necessities? I think I need to do something like this, my spending is getting a bit ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I need to go in a shopping hiatus and do have some months like that (might need more of them!)

Fantastic job! I did this for a couple of months and found that I actually felt more in control and mindful when I started shopping again. Those sales are so tempting but way to stick to it! One of my goals this Spring is to ditch the morning Diet Coke, I'm not doing so well on that one.
ReplyDeleteWay to go giving up shopping for a whole month, that is awesome!! And good luck this month without your diet coke fix--you can do it!
ReplyDeletecongratulations, Elle! and good luck on your February goal!

I still can't believe you made it a whole month!! Pretty amazing. Good luck with the diet coke!
ReplyDeleteI gave up Diet Coke for Lent one year and I will NEVER do that again! I'm just to darn addicted to it!

I need to give up chocolate for awhile. It's like my gateway to a sugar binge.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on giving up shopping! That is NOT an easy task. xo
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the diet coke resolution...that's a tough one for me!
ReplyDeleteImpressive! My first myglam package just shipped. Can't wait to get it, and thank for telling me about it!

I'm doing the same thing with shopping in Feb. I signed up for Mint.com in Jan. and realized I spend a lot on clothes. I love your idea of listening to new music each day!
