For March/Lent, I gave up cupcakes/cakes. MISSION COMPLETED!! I think this was the easiest challenge so far.
I live in a huge city, and I don't often run into the same people twice. That makes it easy and tempting to wear whatever and not do my makeup (note: the only thing I'm vain about is my hair, so that's always on point, haha). Growing up in a small town, I always felt the need to look nice, even when going to Wal-Mart. People will talk about how you've "let yourself go" if you don't!
But whom am I dressing up for? Me? The world? What should it matter what people think? Should their opinion of me, a stranger, influence my self-esteem?
I've decided to a little experiment.
So for April, I'm putting forth the effort, every day. While my job has a super casual, nonexistent dress code, I'm going to put for the effort. I'm going to look nice and wear full makeup (I usually just escape with concealer) for one month, instead of when I feel like it. I want to see how it makes me feel, and if people notice.
PS: How was your Easter/Passover? I thought I'd throw in a flashback of me and my sis J!
Lil Elle, Lil J...note the Easter hats & dresses! And baskets!
In case you missed it: did you answer the Question?
Hi Elle,
ReplyDeleteI had a great Easter while visiting our son in Sydney, Australia. The weather is great here and we are seeing all the sites.
I'll be interested to see if you continue the effort to dress "up" and wear makeup each day. I find that since I'm older, I really need the makeup, especially eyebrows and some blush for a bit of color. Luckily, I really don't need concealer. On days when I'm working at home, I dress more for comfort but feel "dressed" if I have on full makeup. Hubby likes it too and does comment if I DON"T have makeup on.
Have a good week. XXOO
Such an interesting challenge. I am curious to see how it goes. I was thinking of having a similar "challenge" myself but with wearing skirts and looking pretty...I'm so scared!
ReplyDeleteHahah I'm loving that old picture! I'm excited that you were able to complete your fast! I don't know what all I'd do without cake and cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteThat photo is adorable!
ReplyDeleteAs for your new challenge-- I am very curious how it comes out!! Should be interesting...
I LOVE that picture of you and your sis - so cute! My Easter was fabulous - we had an Easter Egg Hunt with my nephew! :)
ReplyDeleteI like this idea! I can dress casually for work as well and some weeks I tell myself to wear heels more often than flats etc. :-)

Look forward to seeing how your experiment goes.
ReplyDeleteAwesome that your rocked the no cake/cupcakes! I have to dress up for work, so it's not really an option not to get dressed. But I NEVER wear makeup lol.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck on you next goal. I made my not to wear jeans 5 days a week to work and I been going strong with it.
ReplyDeleteAlso congrats on giving up cake and cupcake.
Way to go on achieving your March goal, and good luck with April's! I used to wear full makeup all the time when I was younger, and I still do most of the time, but I've definitely gotten more relaxed about it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting challenge, are you going to be blogging about it?
ReplyDeleteHow adorable is that last pic:) And congrats on the success of another resolution! Here's to an amazing April.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute pic! Awesome job on March's challenge. And I'm dying to know the results for April. It sounds like an awesome social experiment.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute throwback picture! I love the bonnets/hats. I really need to try wearing makeup to work more often, I usually just put on blush and mascara but I think I'd feel more put together with a full face. I may give this challenge a try myself!
ReplyDeleteGood for your! Love the Easter picture. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's SUCH a good resolution for the month! Definitely inspiring; it's so easy to stop caring.

Sounds like a great challenge! You should check out my current personal challenge (which I'm doing for the whole year): to not buy any new clothes in 2012. I'm documenting it all on my blog, FEST.
ReplyDeleteMy Easter was wonderful, complete with ham, cheesy potatoes, and orange rolls. Yum!

I absolutely love white easter hats on little girls :) I remember my Easter pictures wearing mine!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to make more effort in the workplace. Not so much with dress code, but more so my hair and makeup :)
I have definitely gotten more and more lazy about putting myself together every day. I blame grad school and, like you, living in a big city where I never run into people I know. Good luck with your challenge!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with your April challenge. I don't wear any makeup daily so that would be a HUGE challenge for me!
ReplyDeletei gave up alcohol and i did it successfully!!! YAY for the both of us!!!
ReplyDeleteI could give up cakes/cupcakes easily, but if you took away my ice cream I may not live. JK! It would be tough!!! I think once you get in a habit of 'looking nice' everyday it'll be hard to get out of it... I know that's the case for everything just like exercising... I love putting on makeup everyday it's like an art form. ;) xxoo a-
ReplyDeleteThat's a great accomplishment!!! I haven't been able to stick to anything and I'm quite honestly feeling like a complete failure. Oh well, I'm back on the healthy wagon this week.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your next challenge! It'll be interesting to see people's perception of you. Last week I wore a black dress and I threw a black blazer on over it because I thought it was too sexy to wear alone. And I ended up getting asked if I had an interview that day by 5 different co-workers. LOL :) xoxo
Congrats on accomplishing your goal. I would have a hard time giving up cake. Its so tasty.
ReplyDeleteYou're so lovely in this pic!

Congrats on your resolutions. For me, I find that people do notice when you dress up at work, especially if everyone is usually pretty casual.
ReplyDeleteThat was EASY? Wow! Ha!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on accomplishing the no-cupcake mission! Thats some serious determination! I think the April challenge will be a fun one...i know what you mean about growing up and dressing up in a small town.
ReplyDeleteI think it's super interesting how some people do a challenge to wear makeup everyday and how others challenge themselves to wear no makeup for a month. I think the latter is harder to do! Good luck on your challenge!
ReplyDeleteCute photo! I try to look nice everyday since I have to commute everyday to work, but once people know me I end up being super casual and not caring as much what I look like, haha. That's just me being lazy, though :P
ReplyDeleteAww, what a cute photo. I'm curious to see how you feel at the end of the month. I tend to be lazy with getting ready on the weekends, but maybe I'd get more done and feel less "blah" if I got ready like I do during the week. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable picture! This challenge is one I should do too, working from home I get into the yoga pant rut for sure, I need to really get dressed in "real" clothes and put some markup on ( other than just concealer, mascara). I can't wait to see how things go. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteawww adorable pic! I gave up fried food for lent... it was HARD! haha Hope you had a wonderful Easter!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on keeping your Lenten promise! That can sometimes be hard -- especially when sweets are involved! xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteCute picture of you two! I had a great Easter. Hope yours was blessed also :) Congratulations on giving up cakes and good luck with dressing up everyday! I admire you for doing that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my Pimple the pepper post ;) My hair has gotten really bad lately. My bald spot seems to be getting bigger and bigger while my hair gets thinner and thinner. :0 I've stopped blow drying it and just letting it air dry though. Any tips?

I'm on board for this! I'm trying to keep myself well-dressed & put-together daily. Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteI never wear makeup when I'm just lounging around the house, and will maybe spring for mascara if I'm just running quick errands, but I'm so vain, I always wear it otherwise! People ask me if I'm sick when I'm not wearing it, ha!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I try to make myself get dressed every day since I work from home.
