My Biggest Beauty Secret

Today I'm sharing my biggest beauty secret! From the time I was 13 or so, I started experiencing migraines, and they seemed the worst during the summer. It's from being in the sun (you can find me at the pool on weekends and the beach as much as possible) more often during those months. Bright sunshine or light has always hurt my eyes and will give always me a headache or migraine. A few years ago (on a beach trip naturally) a friend told me to try Botox to help with my migraines. Botox is used for other purposes than just cosmetic ones. I laughed it off but later did lots of research and decided to try it.

That was five years ago. Once a year, I get Botox in my forehead, and it has helped immensely with my migraines. And today, I'm sharing where I get it done as well as my experience.

I had to opportunity to visit Plastic Surgery Center of the South for my treatment. I did plenty of research beforehand on the facility and the staff and I was impressed. I got see the credentials as well as before/after photos. They offer a variety of services, ranging from cosmetic surgery to a medical spa.

But I don't go by just research alone. I'm big on trusting my gut. Are you like that? If the place doesn't feel right, or if the staff or doctors don't give me the right vibe, I will head out of there. And trust me, I have done it. If the staff is rude or snobby, I won't go back. If the doctor goes through a laundry list of other areas I need to "fix" without my asking, I am out of there. I've actually had these things happen in the past and that's why I've never mentioned other establishments on the blog before. But I finally found a place I love and wanted to share them with you.

Luckily, the staff and facility at http://www.plasticsurgerycenterofthesouth.net/ were stellar! The staff was so warm and welcoming from the second I entered the door to when I left, beginning with the office manager, Lori. They even contacted me after my visit. My doctor (Dr. Leake) was so kind, gentle, and completely put me at ease. He answered all of my questions and I cannot say enough good things about him.

I understand not everyone reading my experience is interested cosmetic surgery or the medical spa. But I still urge you check them out because they do skin treatments as well. Yes! I'm talking skin care, microdermabrasion, facial peels, Latisse (for lash growth) and so much more. I loved the aesthetician, and you will too. She's very knowledgable and super friendly. After being involved with the beauty world for many years, I can tell what products are good and when someone knows her stuff vs. trying to sell you something. At Plastic Surgery Center of the South, they only have the best and I loved the product line.

So here are my results after my Botox treatment! Botox has been given a bad rap, thanks to pop culture, but I wanted to show that it doesn't have to be that way! No more wrinkles in the forehead and my migraines are temporarily gone in that area. The results are temporary (4-6 months for me) but worth it. Thanks to the amazing staff at Plastic Surgery Center of the South and I highly recommend them!

Extra Elle:
  • Over the weekend I called the police over a dog left in a car. Huge shoutout to the Dunwoody police dept for arriving swiftly and handling the situation.
  • I caved and tried the S'mores Oreos. They were good but sweet, and that's a lot coming from me! I could only eat one!

  2. I'm glad you were able to find a way to combat those summer migraines, they seriously are the worst! I've been noticing that my headaches have become more frequent the past month or so as well, so it must be the same cause *blech*. Thank you so much for posting this, great advice :-D

  3. I have suffered from severe migraine headache disease since I was a child, but have found that no medications have ever alleviated the pain. I've heard that Botox works, but it has always frightened me a bit. I'm so glad that you shared your story - I may have to look into it a bit more now.

  4. My dad and I both suffer from migraines so I totally understand how you feel! And my eyes are so sensitive to light that's impossible for me to leave my house on even a cloudy day without sunglasses. I had never heard of Botox helping migraines but that's definitely good to know!

  6. I think Botox (and a breast reduction after I'm finished having children) is definitely a cosmetic surgery I will have done. Thank you for showing this can look nice when done properly, in moderation. Hollywood taints Botox procedures simply because people often over do it. (:

  8. I'm so glad you found a way to deal with your migraines. They're debilitating and if you've been able to eliminate them and find relief, that's all that matters.

Also, good for you, calling the police for that dog and kudos to the officers for handling the situation!

  11. Botox definitely gets a bad rap, but I've nothing but good things from people in real life. I was so close to getting it in my armpits to prevent excessive sweating. (Luckily, I did find a cheap antiperspirant that actually worked wonders.)

I love that you called the police for the dog!

  16. I suffer from chronic migraine and insomnia and thankfully arriving in Canada we have a great family doctor which prescribed me with a medication which helps both. I have heard of Botox helping with migraine and am so glad that it helped you, Elle. Migraine is such a terrible thing and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

  17. I think you're so right about trusting your gut instinct about a place. I also am more trusting of a place when they tell me I don't need something rather than try to up-sell me. Looking good Elle.

  21. I'm so glad you are sharing this!! I've been havind headaches since I was young and no doctor is helping me at the moment! I'll have to look into something like this, I never would have thought that Botox would help!
And I'm so glad you called about the dog being in the car! I get so sad when I see things like that!

  22. I had no idea that Botox helps with migraines! I've had migraines before (not chronic, just random ones) and I would do ANYTHING to make the pain go away, so I say whatever works! And if you get a bonus of wrinkle reduction too that's just gravy :)
And good for you for calling about the dog--you probably saved its life!

  23. I haven't heard about that before, glad it is helping you with your migraines. So happy you called it in and the puppy got help.

  24. this is awesome - if i had migraines i wouldn't hesitate to get botox if it helped! any relief would be worth it, i reckon.
the other weekend, we were clearing up after a fundraiser thing my husband's school had and we got there at 10am - there was a dog in a car in front of the church next door! it had easily been there for an hour or more. we called the police as well, but they didn't come :(

  28. That's so interesting i'm so glad it's helped you. Also kudos for calling about that poor dog in the car so awful people still do that all the warning. I think it's great you called! I would do the same

  30. I would try Botox in my forehead. Not for headaches, but for the wrinkles.

I'm glad your headaches went away!

  31. I've never heard of Botox for migraines! But it makes sense. I also suffer with migraines and they blow!

And good job for calling the police! I've done that multiple times. It's too hot in this area for dogs to be left in cars. Once, it was this pit bull puppy in like July with no windows cracked or water. The police busted out their window and left them a ticket!

  32. I have a feeling I'll be on the Botox train eventually, but to help with migraines!? Girl, no judgment; those are killer and if Botox helps now, more power to you!

  33. Your face looks flawless! I'm definitely interested in doing botox at some point but need to do lots more research before taking that step.

  34. That;s awesome that Botox worked for your migraines. I have never had one, but have heard they are just awful!

And good for you for calling the cops about the dog. I hate when people leave their poor dogs in the car!

  36. I've had migraines since college and my trigger seems to be sleep deprivation (not easy when you have a little one!). I typically take excedrin migraine which works-just makes me feel a little off. Luckily I only get them about once a month. Thanks for the information! I am so glad this treatment works for you! I think if I ever start to get them more often I will definitely check into this!

  37. I've been considering getting botox on my armpits to stop excessive underarm sweating. :) I dislike how most people nowadays tend to be so judgemental towards people who get plastic surgery or other types of cosmetic procedures done. It's so unfair because I feel like if I get something done, like a nose job, I'll still be the person I am now. What difference does it make on the person, besides the physical appearance and most of the time confidence?
    :)

  40. I actually used to get migraines quite a bit a few years ago. Fortunately they have gone away for the most part, and now I'll only get them once a month. I had no idea that Botox could help with migraines. I told my husband that I wanted Botox for my birthday and he immediately shot down that suggestion haha, but now that I know it serves for more than just one purpose, maybe I can sell the idea better! ;-)

  41. I have a couple of friends that get Botox for their migraines. Did the shots you got for the migraine help with the forehead wrinkles or did you get extra shots for the actual wrinkles? The areas that my friends getis so far into their hair line that it doesn't "reach" to their face wrinkles. I also have quite a few friends who's started Botox for wrinkles as well and I'm about ready to start. I already have a facility in mind, I just need to call and make the appointment. So glad it works for you cosmetically and medically! :)

  45. Wow, I didn't know that Botox could help migraine, but it makes sense! I am glad you solved it,and that clinic looks so beautiful! You are right, it's so important to research... - I don't have Botox, but had an eye problem once. I went to a well known doctor and she wanted me to use a medicine that I was wary of... then I went to another and he told me "no way"! After all, I had to go to a third doctor, just to see who was right - doctor #1 or #2! Thankfully it was #2 :) And I am Ok and relieved! So glad you solved your migraine!

  46. I'm so glad Botox works for your migraines! I've been really interested in the different fillers lately, but don't even know where to start. I need to start doing my research too. Good to know about the S'mores Oreos. I have been looking for those things everywhere, and I haven't found them in any of my stores yet!

  47. I've always wanted to try Botox for my deep forehead crease that I've had since I was a teen, but I haven't because I don't know anyone who's done it and has a place they love! Now I do! Thanks, Elle! You look gorgeous in the above photo, and that is AMAZING that it's helped you with your migraines! I have a friend who gets migraines regularly and I'm going to tell him to read this post!
PS: Good on you for calling the cops on a dog left in a car! You may have saved his life, and kudos to you for standing up for a fur friend who needed you!

  49. I actually also did Botox via a plastic surgeon and had some great results. I now have a neurologist who will do the "full" compliment which includes your head, neck and shoulders so here's fingers crossed! Been having these since age 5 and they SUCK. Also girl, my prayers and thoughts to you as you go through Fathers Day and remember the man you love. Take care :)
