Clinique Lower Lash Mascara $1 Dupe

clinique mascara lashes dupe

When it comes to beauty products, I will splurge when it's worth it, and other times I will go as cheap as possible. But when I saw yet another friend rave about the Clinique Lower Lash Mascara, I knew I had to try it. Was it really worth the $10?

Let's talk first about what makes the Clinique Lower Lash Mascara so awesome:
  • the tiny brush makes it excellent for lower lashes, no matter how sparse
  • comes in 2 colors: black and brown-black
But--it's a very tiny tube and it's $10. Once I saw the brush, I instantly was reminded of this:

Interdental Brushes! If you have had braces, you've probably seen these before. They're tiny brushes used to brush and clean them. Those with large spaces between teeth use them in lieu of floss. And they're around $1 (depending on the brand).

These are a staple in my freelance makeup kit and in my makeup bag. They have over a dozen uses and come in different sizes. You can find them at any drugstore.

Here they are side by side. The brushes aren't exact, but the results are! I tested the interdental brush in the Clinique mascara and with various other mascaras. And the results of separated, coated lashes were the same. The wear time/smuding/etc depends on the formula.

You can use the interdental brushes to remove clumps in mascara. I use them for brows too! If you have the Benefit Gimme Brow, the brush is the exact same as the Clinique one.

So which eye has the Clinique Lower Lash Mascara and which has the interdental brush?

  1. I've actually never used a lower lash mascara that was different from the ones I used on my top lashes - so this was an eye opener literally :) xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. such a great hack, the brush on the clinique is still too big for my lower lashes that are teeny tiny.

  8. I've tried Clinique Bottom Lash and I hated it. Maybe it is me being a dumb and don't know how to properly use it, but it just happened that I prefer regular mascara brush for my lower lashes. But this one, what a genius find! Deserve a try. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  12. You are really brilliant, dear Elle! Always when I apply full makeup, I think of you because of the lip balm tip for brows! And now this great tip! I will for sure try it! I think the Clinique brush was applied to the right eye, on the left in the picture! Eager to know if I got it right or not!

  18. This is pure genius!!! I don't usually put mascara on my lower lashes..mainly because I rub at my eyes some during the day and could totally see myself smudging it all over my face...but this would be perfect for a night out if I want to pump up the jam! Sounds like you had a great weekend, sometimes I forgo my original plans to do something for myself too!

  19. Looks like your dental brushes do just as well. Good way to save a few bucks!

  22. I've never used a lower lash Mascara but I can see how those brushes would be useful! Sometimes certain brushes don't work for my bottom lashes so I will give this a try!

  23. What a great hack! Oh do I remember those brushes! Trainwreck is on my list to see!

  24. I'd definitely have a hard time spending $10 for something you can spend much less for! And I loved Trainwreck too!

  25. my goodness, I can't even tell!! That is a GREAT idea.

  26. That is so, so awesome! I have really tiny, barely-there bottom lashes, and have to have some sort of tiny mascara wand if I want to put mascara on them (or I'll get splotches everywhere!), so this would be just perfect for me! And a lot more affordable! :-)

  28. I have several little pouches of these and never ever thought about cross using them. Thanks to you and your crafty mind I now know what I will be using in the morning! When you have a 49 year old face and horrendous dark circles and bags it isn't a pretty look to have mascara all over so you rock!!!!

  31. Yay for a re-charging relaxing weekend! And loving this dupe! It's really hard to tell, but I'm going to assume the pricier option is on your right eye ;-)

  32. I don't blame you at all for staying in this weekend--sometimes you just need a break! Also this is GENIUS Elle! I never do my lower lashes because I always smudge (and won't pay $10 for special "lower lash" mascara) but I WILL try this for sure!

  33. That is such a great idea! I'm going to have to try this!

  34. I did NOT know that Clinique had such a thing! A lower lash mascara, how brilliant! I am always making a mess of my lower lashes with my normal mascara brush. Thanks!!

  35. umm hello, you're a genius!! Such a smart hack and so cheap to do it!! Both bottom lashes look amazing so obviously $1 for the win!! Sounds like a perfect weekend to me :) I love going out to dinner so much because then I don't have to cook haha

  36. That's genius! Also I don't wear mascara on my lower lashes because I feel like at the end of the day it eventually gets on my skin and I look either like a raccoon or like my dark circles are WAY out of control. Do I just need to make sure to use waterproof, or is there something else to remedy this???

  43. My favorite mascara and the only one i use unless i get one free now has two sides. One side is for top and one side is for bottom and the brush is even thinner than both of those and longer. I love it. It makes a HUGE difference in clumping. I can't remember the name but it is a drug store brand.

  44. This is seriously one of the best hacks I've seen in a really long time! It looks exactly the same - How do you come up with those things?

  47. Um wow?! Look at you finding something so random and showing us results like that! I used to love the Clinque mascara and actually purchased it for my aunt to use because she has NO lashes and it's the smallest brush around. But yes, $10 a tube is sort of a bummer. I can't wait to tell her about this. I'll guess your right eye is Clinque. (;
